So you think worms have no use?
You think lockpicks have no use?
You think a green sword has no use?
You think a treasure map you already have has no use?
So on an so forth...
If you are really struggling to find the utility in these items, I would be more than glad to help you out. Been master crafter across the board for years.
And yet, people constantly LEAVE THEM BEHIND for others to 'make use of' Amirite!?
You prove my whole point. If they were that useful, they wouldn't be left there.
Just seems like you and these people who leave them behind have a lot in common. I don't mind taking them because i know i will use them. If somebody doesn't want to use them, i see no problem with leaving it for somebody else who will.

The more players have to struggle with inventory management as new and different things get added to the game, the more players are forced to be selective on what they hold. As somebody with a craft bag and a maxed bank account it's still a growing pain to deal with. I cannot imagine those who work to get by without these luxuries.
It's not like its so difficult to delete that rubedite sword from your inventory (on pc you can even get an addon that will do it for you), certain players just don't care about the others and like to pretend that other people do not exist. Those players will run to the chest while you're fighting the mobs that are guarding it etc. Manual looting is slower than autoloot option anyway so it's not like they're saving a lot of time by cherry picking, I'm pretty sure they just like being inconsiderate.
Well, this isnt surprising. So many people leave their trash behind in real life, no wonder that they do the same in a virtual world.
I just don't understand why ZOS cant just make nodes either instanced or "all or nothing" type of deal. It would at least make things fair for everyone, it's really not fun when you pick a columbine and find a worm instead. Partially looted chests are also annoying, it takes a while for them to despawn and respawn again.
Why is it the players responsibility for using the system as intended? It isn't littering, it is simply only taking what you want and need, not unlike hunter gathers.
I mean, in most cases you can drop your trash wherever you want and you wont be penalized or anything, but it doesnt mean you should do that. It's the same as leaving your trash in a cinema or in a park, you're basically forcing someone else to pick and delete things you dont need. It is littering, and it hinders node respawn, so its very inconvenient for other players. Why should other people waste their time running to your partially looted flower or chest? You cant really tell if they're partially looted or not if you see them at a distance.
How can it be littering when the item was there before the player? They simply chose not to pick it up.
Please stop acting like you cannot comprehend her point.
People are leaving garbage in nodes and chests and it is annoying - to the people doing it as well as to those who have done it done to them.
It causes slower respawns, and is just plain pointless. It wrecks farming for everyone.
Behaving pedantically, and muddying the discussion by arguing semantics, is just trolling and nothing more.
I don't get it too often, but there are the occasional occurrences like finding every chest in the area has already been opened and one random crappy item left in each one so it didn't respawn; though that seems to have a certain deliberateness to it rather than simply being inconsiderate. I agree that overall it isn't a big deal but you do sometimes facepalm at the effort some people will make to be a prat.I pick everything and roam far and wide farming as I just started a PC US server account from nothing. But I get maybe one harvest node a week with say just worms, which is alright by me as I like fishing, and maybe 2 chests a week already open with partial looting. And I open a lot. So no, I don't find it a problem, it is at the level that I just ruefully smile and exclaim that dastardly bounder Amundsen has got there first (it's a Brit thing). PC US/EU are OK for me. I assume they opened a chest and ran out of space unexpectedly, and didn't have any crap to destroy. It happens.
person takes just one item, node, chest should disappear.
As with my previous comment, it doesn't happen to often but I often raise an eyebrow when I see someone racing me to a chest or node when I was already practically on top of it. I know proximity doesn't mean ownership but it's just good manners really. It's sometimes irritating (and sometimes more than others, depending on the randomness of my mood) but whether or not they get there first it's just a bit sad. Although I would certainly not claim to be the last word in politeness, generally speaking if someone is already approaching it or even if we just turn up at the same time from opposite directions (which happens annoying often!) I'll just leave them to it. No point in getting into a fight over it.There is many players who are unfair and think of themselves only. I've seen people fighting over nodes and chests, ridiculous. If I see someone running towards it and they seen it first I let them have it not rush to it fighting for it. Sometimes I even tell people the chest is there if I don't want it. Players can be very selfish and nasty.
Depends on the person's level. This problem seems to be on the increase, people opening chests and just taking what they want and leaving the 'crap', not giving a thought to the players that follow.

"It causes slower respawns,"
Do you have any proof of this claim to provide or is it just what you hope is true so your argument holds?
i ask because the devs have said frequently that respawn does not slow down or change if something is left behind vs everything taken - period. Similarly a few players who have claimed to waste their time testing said the same - no way to verify that.
How about this compromise?
Instead of changing everybody else's play to suit your desires - give a toggle for "hide partially lootted nodes from me completely."
That way everybody upset at finding a partially emptied nodes could with a single click never ever see one again by turning that toggle on and the rest of us could continue to play how we feel like.
I never get over how often the first option folks jump to is "limit everybody else" instead of "let me limit me".

I admit my failing is getting a bit defensive over a chest if I'm having to bat some bad guys away and probably get a bit "it's mine, mine I tell you!" if someone gets a bit too close even if it's only to help me out.I know there are opportunists out there but I've yet to actually encounter one.

An even better suggestion is to just have resource nodes and chests despawn after a while. Something similar happens in dungeons and trials, which is the main reason why in an organised trial group, you either open chests before or after the fight, never during.

There is already animation/image showing open chest in game, so why not add that chest/troves that have been open once since spawning now looks like lid is open? It wouldn't be impossible to add images/animation that indicate that something have been open/used once like a flower that look different (falling petals and or another colour).
I really wish ZoS could make those shelves for books more clear on which contain some unread books and which is empty/already have been read or added to collection/achievement.
This problem seems to be on the increase, people opening chests and just taking what they want and leaving the 'crap', not giving a thought to the players that follow. Not just chests but ALL crafting Nodes are cherry picked by these selfish people. There are NO excuses from this people! none, if you don't want all the items in a chest/node you can always destroy them/sell them to an NPC's.
I would like to see ZoS take away the option to NOT autoloot and instead have autoloot on as standard, that way the selfish ones amongst us will have no option but to take everything.
With your suggestion it would only make people autoloot and then put back item in node/chest that they don't want. It would probably not solve anything.
