- if you want to join meta and play endgame competitive leaderboar race - you are welcome
pick one and don't be greedy and childish lol
"play as you want" as in complete content for achievements in eso doing whatever build you want - you literally cannot do that. you could not complete hard mode runs of certain trials with a mishmash of builds / non optimized / multiple pve overland builds in group. that's not being childish, their point was why do we have to bring specific classes in to be able to just COMPLETE specific content (ex. Gryphon Heart achievement - you need magnb dps, dk tanks)
This not true at all. You only need magnbs as dps and dk tanks if you are aiming for the highest score in vCR. If you just want to get gryphon heart u can do it with anything u want. Will your group dps be lower? Sure. Will the fight last longer? Sure. Would you need to play much more mechanics then meta group? Certainly. But can it actually be done? Yes it can, it just requires you to come up with your own tactics and builds tailored to the task at hand.

It seems as though OP does not have much experience with competitive PvE, or MMORPGs in general. If (s)he had then (s)he would know that which classes do the best dps changes and changes often.
Further, most decent raiding teams would not be concerned about what class you played as long as you can pull the numbers. Cannot pull the DPS they are looking for then of course you will be benched.
So in other words, this seems merely to be a rant because OP has fallen out of favor with some raid groups.

My biggest brawl has been that ZOS seems to take more and more the uniqueness of classes away to homogenize them, making them all the same in the end, which obviously sucks. It has never been perfect either, but it has never been as bad as it is now in my opinion.
100% agree with OP.
I rarely even play anymore because of this. Granted, I want to play a Stam/Mag hybrid, bow/healer. But I can't unless I feel like playing a single player game, because NO ONE wants me in their groups. And I can't blame them, because hybrids suck. And using some gimmicky set bonus to make people feel like hybrid is good, just really doesn't cut it.
I would still rather play Skyrim over this. And I do. I just finished making another new character.
I had a lot of hope for ESO, I actually thought it was going to bump up to my #1 for MMOs, taking the place of WoW, finally. But, not a chance.
And for people saying "PvP is the true end game". Yeah sure, maybe it is. But then we are forced to play as the "best class" or we just get rolled.

So what we're really talking about here is the top of the leaderboard. You'll never be able to balance for that crowd. Min maxers will find the slightest advantage and flock to it.
I think the real issue is when casual guilds take themselves too seriously and require 8 magblades when they won't even sniff the leaderboard and perhaps not even clear the content.
I think the devs have done a good job for a large percentage of the player base and are stuck with an insurmountable task of providing their play as you want mission statement to the elite players.

Moreover, the current homogeneity of classes so that every class can fill every role in their own way and be moderately effective at everything is closer to The Elder Scrolls style of gameplay from the previous, single player games than the more rigidly defined class/role combos we started out with.

Well, that is what they get when they want balance - if all are the same, it is balanced.
