Is the player population really dead?

Not necessarily. A lot of non-competitive PvE players are long-term veterans with no interest in the so-called "endgame" be it PvP or group dungeons/trials. They're the players who run multiple characters for the pleasure of playing through the main game fully with each one.

I can agree with this. I've been here since the start (beta) and have been playing steadily for years, and been a plus member forever. I do hit the occasional dungeon, run trials every now and again, and may occasionally hit Cyrodiil for mass stupidity there...but the balance of my time anymore is chatting, trading, crafting, harvesting, finishing various character completions on any of my 15 characters. I know a LOT of people in my 5 guilds who play the same way, and a very large portion who only set foot in Cyrodiil weekends to check Goldie, or on new characters to get RM. I'd guess about half the people I come across even give an ats rass about pvp, if that. Probably because no matter how much people will want to argue otherwise, at its core this simply isnt a PVP game. Its a PVE game that added in PVP to get extra numbers (which is smart, because that can really bolster a game's income), and it shows.

But a good chunk of my time on is spent mentoring new players (and there are TONS of those lately), helping people with projects they cant complete alone, and simply BSing with guildies and friends.

I have to agree with this, I too have been playing on and off since beta. I don't sign in with steam. This game only gets better with each update. Even if I don't play for months and months I keep my account active. There are so many game models out there now that nickel and dime you. As far as a dead population I just don't see it.

27,000 people are playing @ 2:20 PM EST, and that's just on Steam. So no, not dead - actually very healthy.

Those are good numbers on Steam. I thought I read somewhere it was only 2000. (not sure if in this thread, some other thread or else where.) That is a huge difference. Well if the game is not growing we can at least say it's very healthy. Good for Zenimax.

Every time a wow expansion comes out we get this post.

    Makes you wonder.

Anywho, while Summerset wasn't what most of the population wanted (Who cares if you're a Dunemer, you are going to be an errand boy for an SJW and help the poor Argonians to keep the borders open!!) The game is still healthy.

So no they sky isn't falling.

With a claim like that you ought to run a poll and see if it stands up!

Polls are useless but, talking with a metric crap ton of people at Quakecon this year plus the general consensus on reddit and other social media outlets...I think it's pretty obvious.

I've played the game for more then three years on PS4/EU and made a lot of friends during that time. If I look at my friends list now I rarely see people playing the game anymore. This is also something I heard from quite a few people at my new MMO home. This game really is bad at keeping players, at least on my platform.

The game feels like there’s much more than that. Players are spread out all over the place these days. There’s no 1 hub where players hang out. You can find clusters of players in all the major cities, starting zones, expansion/dlc zones, PvP, guild halls, and dungeons / trials. The game is far from dead :)

I may smell like a corpse after an hour at the gym, but I can assure you I am most certainly alive.

All joking aside, people like to judge the state of the game based on their own experiences, and many of the people who claim the game is dead or dying are on the EU servers, which are actually on the low side of the population, but mostly because EU players have moved over to the NA servers. NA is still a very robust community with a high population.

I've no idea what the situation is on console, but I've been on PC EU since launch and have never seen it as busy as it is now. I've also no idea where you get the idea that EU players have moved over to the NA servers. Again, you may be referring to console, but even then I've seen no evidence of that from forum discussions.

You're right, I am referring to console, Xbox specifically. We have a significant number of players who have moved over to the NA servers and started over because of lack of players on their servers. My apologies for not specifying the platform.

Steams bad....mmkay? And you shouldnt give Steam money cuz its bad? Mmkay?

Beyond learning that you shouldnt ever rely on Steam for anything....EVER....I can attest that the game population is pretty strong. I cant think of many areas that arent often overpacked with questers, harvesters, etc.

I've never had issues with Steam. For ESO, or any other game.

And when I want to buy a new game, I usually get it through Humble Bundle anyways. Much cheaper.

Let's stop with all this "is ESO dead". If you like playing, and you can do what you want, then play. If not, don't play. Simple.

    Same for me.

Except if we are talking about ESO. This is the only game that had problems starting through Steam. The probems are gone now - but after the launch of Summerset we had a really bumpy month...

I bought the game on disk from amazon, then had a good friend send me his entire install folder on stick, because I just don't have enough GB download to get the updates since the disk. At that point he was on steam, and I couldn't get the not-steam version I had to cooperate at all, so I threw up hands in disgust and bought the steam edition (on sale thankfully). So yeah, that worked.... except with satband, adding a layer (steam) just made my lag even worse - and then to top THAT off, steam did that stupid chat app, which started eating my bw at a furious rate, regardless that I never used it and in fact shut it down the minute it tried to start.

I got with support, and they helped me get my original not-steam version working. So now, steam is set in perm offline mode, and not allowed through my firewalls at all - and the game is much smoother even though my lag is just as bad, not to mention that my bw percentage is now dropping several percent a day, rather than adding 5% a day as it did after the steam chat idiocy. And I can actually get logged in with only a couple tries most of the time rather than the 40 to 50 tries with steam.

I've had nothing but eternal problems with Steam support. I've had games I've been double and even TRIPLE charged on through Steam, and I've had to fix the issue through my bank because Steam just didnt seam to care. I've had my account hacked on Steam (and not the only one....literally thousands of people have). I eventually changed how I paid Steam because of this and started using prepaid cards for Steam....and both of them have had attempts at illegal transactions, when the ONLY place I used them is Steam.

Their security is a joke. Their service is a prime example of how to NOT run a company. They make constant bad decisions on business and their customers pay the price. But the customers keep coming back because of 1) ignorance 2) apathy 3) lack of choice since Steam has a near monopoly in some sectors.

Steam is, IMO, just in general a bad company and I wont give them a red cent ever again. To the point that I've had freebie games given to me from hardware purchases (new Doom, Assassins Creed and Metal Gear V) that I just threw away because they required Steam.

But we've gotten off track. ESO GUD. Plenty of players, the thread seams to be a lame attempt at stirring up sheet. Nothing to see here, move along people!
The opinions of others should always be heard, especially if they dont agree with your own! But you always reserve the right to laugh at them.
