Jorvuld's Guidance not working properly?

Princess_Ciri

I am posting this on the behalf of one of my guildmates who has tested Jorvuld's Guidance with a few sets and has noticed that the 5 item set bonus is not functioning correctly.

"(5 items) Increases the duration of all Major buffs, Minor buffs, and damage shields you apply to yourself and allies by 40%"

So you might think this would therefore apply to major slayer, major aegis etc? These buffs are applied by using an ultimate whilst using Master Architect or Inventor's Guard (using these as examples because they have been tested) but if you use these sets with Jorvuld's Guidance, the major slayer or major aegis time doesn't increase.

It also doesn't increase the minor force buff from Twilight Remedy that allies receive when they activate a synergy.

So in this case you would be thinking that perhaps the 5pc Jorvuld's Guidance bonus is just a bit misleading, and doesn't actually work for other item set bonuses. Fair enough.

However, it does work for the shield applied by the Iceheart monster helm. So it does work for some set item bonuses, but not for Master Architect, Inventor's Guard or Twilight Remedy. This could be because Iceheart is a shield instead of a major/minor buff, however according to the item description it should work for both. So I want to know is this working as intended or is it bugged? Is it supposed to work for Master Architect and the other sets, or should it not be working for Iceheart?

What is happening here is major and minor slayer were left off the major/minor buff list for this set, and that definitely needs to be fixed.

But in the case of twilight remedy and other synergy based major/minor buffs (atronoch, bone shield, ect) is the synergy does not belong to you (the caster). This is part of the mechanics of synergies and not a bug with the set. Synergies belong to the user (the person who pushed X) not the supplier (the person who provided the synergy). This has always been the case for synergies. It is why a low stat tank can provide a talons synergy with a bad tool tip but when the DPS uses said synergy it actually does higher dmg. You will find that if the synergy user is wearing jorvuns they will get the duration increase on major/minor buffs and shields. But it will not apply if the synergy provider is wearing the set only.

I tested and reported this on day two of the PTS cycle, without any notification or feedback from zenimax.

How it works with sets is very very inconsistent, it will for example buff the major expedition you get from vicious ophidian, but not the major expedition you get from dreugh king slayer...

It seems like the internal testers of ZoS forgot to go through sets that give major and minor buffs and have them function consistently.

This is the way the set has worked since day one and is a big reason that I believe the set is way over hyped. Basically the only 2 meaningful buffs a healer gives is combat prayers minor berzerk, a buff that is useless to one of the five classes and major force from warhorn. Maybe of it apply to the debuffs as well, a 33 second eledrain would be great but even then, it is a free skill.

ahhh rip that really sucks, I hate that the only way to know if it works is to test each set individually since there seems to be no consistency to what works and what doesn't :(

The guys from eso wiki did tests on i think all skills to see wich are affected, and wich are not.

    here is the Link: https://fextralife.com/eso-set-guide-jorvulds-guidance-buff-management/

    Notes for PvE Players

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, Jorvuld’s Guidance is really meant for the Healer role in the group. Healing Done, Magicka Recovery and an extension of the duration of Skills like Steadfast Ward, Light’s Champion, Aggressive Horn among others, make this quite obvious. Reinforcing this idea, unfortunately, is the fact that this Set does not enhance Master Architect, which would have extended the duration of Major Slayer by 4 seconds.

This Set does not work with any Buff that is tied to a location or the duration of another effect. For example it does not work with Circle of Protection because you have to be inside the circle to gain the Buffs. Permafrost is also not affected for this reason, because the Major Protection is tied to the time of the damaging AoE, and this Set doesn’t increase the duration of the damage.

This Set also does not boost some of the most powerful Skills and Sets in the game, presumably because they would become TOO powerful. They are listed below because technically they should be affected by Jorvuld’s Guidance, but aren’t.

Has Zeni themselves stated they don't want Slayer uptime to be increased by this set anywhere? I don't watch ESO Live or things like that. Does this article have a source for its statement that a major buff shouldn't be buffed by the major buff buffing set? :p

Primary sources appreciated, 'it seems like' or 'it makes sense if' don't count.

Why would dreugh king slayer be buffed? It's a consistent berserk mode, which us always up.

they are most likely talking about the on-kill Major Expedition, not the Major Brutality, as that is the only thing dreugh king slayer has in common with vicious serpent.

This is a must have set for end-game PvE actually, since one of the major responsibilities healers have is Warhorn uptime. So while "extending the duration of a single buff" may not seem much to some, the fact that this pushes dps to the limit makes it mandatory in most end-game serious raiding groups.

The reason why a lot of these are unaffected by Jorvald's is because the buffs in question are not being applied by the wearer of Jorvuld's. It's usually registering as a self applied buff, even if it's a result of someone else's armor proc.

(Presumably, if the DPS was wearing Jorvuld's as on of their sets, the buff would be extended. Using J's as a DPS set obviously results in a bigger DPS hit than the buff getting extended can warrant.)

Correct, I run it on a Warden Healer for PvP ... where you can really get some group buffs going.

One example is Barrier in small man PvP ... think along the lines of a tooltip 30k+ Barrier heal and 42 second Barrier damage shield. ;)

If you want higher DPS then, the healer should just drop Jorvuld's and wear a fitting damage set, like Infallible Aether, since healers heavy attack with resto staff a lot.

This revelation really does show Jorvuld's is actually rather useless for PvE, but quite exceptional for PvP. The hype train was definitely rushing way too ahead of itself (although I admit I was a passenger).
