Nope, just acquaintances.
None of my friends are gamers.
I wonder how you can possible live with them - they do not understand your world - assuming you are a gamer - and have no appreciation whatsoever for your spare time activity therefore. How imaginative can they be, if they do not see any benefit in playing a video game?- Aren't they extremely boring to you - so that you think, well, I would rather be not here now with them?- To me for example, I cannot stand these empty talks, which are so time consuming without any real content, which "normal" people are talking about. All they have is their family, their kids - who is interested into the kids of others?- but they don't grasp that. How can you put up with this kind of friends at all?- Normal people are incredibly boring.

None of my IRL friends are into games either, and when I talk about ESO, a lot of things go over their heads. I don't mind, because I understand it's an unknown world to them, and at least they make the effort of listening to me yapping about PvP and Maelstrom Arena, while probably a dozen question marks pop in their headBut I wanted to comment on what was written above, because if you are not interested in your friends' children, how do you expect them to be interested in your video-game? It goes both ways, otherwise it's not really a friendship.
To get back on topic, I have made friendly aquaintances at most, during my time in ESO, but not actual friends. This probably more to do with my own social interaction behaviour, and the fact that I solo a lot, rather than a reflection of the community's openess. I actually think the ESO community is very friendly as a whole.
Being older and married and more relaxed about gaming than most of the people I run across has left me out in the cold (unless someone needs something lol my friends list of full of people who've 'needed' things).
Made a friend 'questing buddy' back at start, but don't know what's become of her (I do hope she is off playing Witcher or whatever and not well, she was older and had health issues...).
