What is a fake tank?

No taunt

Meaning the build is not a real tank role, but an actual dps or healer. Even with taunt slotted and taunting bosses, you can be a dps in disguise meaning a fake tank, not the real one.

I believe so, and it seem like there are alot of definitions out there.

Mainly I like to know how many times someone look at me as a fake tank in a bad way. It did not occur to me except when reading the forum.

Because I queue as a healer and dps on vet as tank because I feel that I can taunt the boss and main damaging adds/mobs, and can bring them together in most cases, while dpsing/healing and getting the no death, speed run, hm achievements on a ok pug.
In my experience doing around 20-30% or more of the dps make the run alot smoother than what the defence, debuffs and buffs a tank bring, in my case around 4-5k dps aswell. The exception are the dlcs on vet which I don't want to pug like this, since the risk of dying on those are higher and from that frustration rising in other players who are not on the same page.

Also because the ranting on the forums have caused me to not be able to queue as all 3 at the same time.

This is what gets me. You see no issue with it, but did you ever stop to ask the others if they would rather have an actual tank. Since you made the choice for them.

If as you say, you taunt and keep the adds clumped, your not a fake tank, just an unconventional one.

Honestly I have pondered so many fixes for the "fake role" problem on dungeon finder, and sadly so many of them simply wouldn't fix the problem or would wrongly lock out legitimate play styles. Ultimately, I think the best answer is to just give a tab to say, "I'm ok with an unconventional group." Just that simple step would unclog the DPS back up to a degree and relieve some of the pressure that is driving people to que as fake roles.
