1) This is a brand new MMO using technologies not used before by most games. WoW was exactly the same way when it came out it was even buggier.
2) ZOS is a relatively new developer and it will take some time for their techniques and experiences to ripen.
3) Elder Scrolls games have been notorious for having glitches and bugs abound.
4) Most of the downtime has been to prevent game breaking exploits from taking hold. Such things are only easy to detect when you have enough of a sample of players to find them.
5) The game is just releasing, of course it makes sense that there are going to be a lot of bugs in the beginning. Over time, more bugs will be solved than created and will find a happy normal a month or two into the future.
Aside from the bugs, there are a lot of smart and ingenious features that are in the game and when you are playing, the game is legitimately fun. The quests are well rounded. In comparison to WoW, the questing is much more streamlined and less repetitive. There is a rich story that changes based on your decisions and a lot of freedom of choice around your character. Exploration rewards you.
ESO is a young, unique MMO that needs you now more than ever. It is understandable to be upset that there is downtime but it is absurd to want a refund over some downtime when it needs it most.
This is a pretty tedious post if you ask me. You constantly reference WoW as if it's the only MMO you've ever heard of. Well the launches of WoW was not a smooth ride at all but technology has moved on since then and this is the worst launch I've seen in quite some time. Most MMOs since WoW have done it better than this, Warhammer, Rift, SWOTOR, GWII, Neverwinter, etc. I don't remember any of these having so much downtime in the first few days.
Many people have pre-ordered the game purely on the basis of a 5 day early access that was advertised and this is not what they have received. I really don't know what Zenimax's experience has to do with it, or the state of past Elder Scrolls games. These first few days have been a poor experience with the game seemingly falling apart in stages; lag, bugs, disconnects, mail, guilds. It's not been good enough so far and the lack of thought the devs have shown in holding maintenance during peak time is not encouraging.
I'm not saying the game will fail but the launch probably has and it could get even worse once the game is fully live for everyone.
These Quests have got stories, unlike LOTRO and WOW. It actually troubled me to make a decision in some of the quests. This game will become great, with time. This game won't be finished in a year. It's just releasing now, and as a MMO player, i know they'll fix everything, in time. Good luck Zenimax, i'll be right here waiting for you.
