Only problem with this comment... ZOS knew is advance they would be turning off the servers prior to the actual launch date. SOOOOO .. THEY did not provide us with the alloted time in the pre-order agreements. Bad form ZOS. To start off lying to your future customers. Might come around to bite you where you sit.

Put all the defenses aside and look at what happened here. we all spent extra money to get some cool extras that we can rub in peoples faces and get 5 days of early access. Now the extras we have gotten. Is the game cool? Yes!
The point is some of us are still having issues logging on or even getting the loader to update. I personally have to copy my husbands game files to my computer every time they do an update. There are tons of glitches, and the game keeps being taken down during peak game play times, messing with our early access. The others are right these long services should have been done at slower times. I definitely want them to fix the game I love it. But the fact remains that we should be compensated for the time we are losing here. If I knew it was going to be like this I would have never paid for the early access.

Agree 100%. We PAID for early access, either the 3-day or 5-day variety. And this is an ONLINE service that is PAID out of the subscription part of the game purchase.
Did you pay more to preorder the game than you would to buy it at release? Does your copy of the game say "33 (or 35) days of subscription time included!" instead of 30?

I understand why you're upset. I even understand that you feel like you are missing out on one of your special pre-order bonuses (people would rage if they didn't get their mini-pets too). Keeping that in mind, the "5 days early game access" listed as a feature is not the same as "120 additional hours of subscription playtime!" You paid to get in early, not to be able to play every moment of that five days.

I am bent, I'm bent over a chair getting it rammed up my arse. My bad, I should have just waited until April 4th and then made my purchase. Then my "reasonable customer expectations", would have been more reasonable and expectations met.

Reasonable customer expectations at time of purchase, barring any other up-front disclosures, which I didn't see, I purchased a game that included subscription time and I ordered it early. The expectation was that I could play an additional 5 days with my April's subscription. After that I'll have to pay an additional amount every month to continue to play. That was a reasonable expectation at time of purchase. Referring to some clause in the TOS/EULA is not justification for what happened. It is just bad business and false advertising.

should i say DirectX5 and again DirectX6 and Everquest?
People couldn't play for days and did we see any compensation? No

Now i don't want to say that i'm happy about the servers being down, but comparing with older games, this is peanuts

i haven't read the rest of the 8 pages. so this may have been stated already..

this is nothing to do with 'preparing the servers for launch'.. as so many people bought the imperial edition/early access..there isn't going to be a huge spike in subscriber numbers on the 4/4/14.

it is just an excuse because they messed something up and are trying to fix the mail bug.. or the issue yesterday where the US server was down.. which they havent really fixed yet.. they are trying to mask that behind 'we are preparing for launch..'

We can't do *** about this downtime, and loss of early access time. But if there is enough complain maybe Zenimax understand that putting scheduled maintenance on EU peek is not a good idea.

I'm not angry that it's down; I understand that's just part of playing an MMO, especially a new one.

I am, however, annoyed that they didn't see fit to warn us more than 5 minutes in advance, even though this was apparently planned. It's rude, inconsiderate. Some people took time off for this (not me, but some did).

You'd think, with the rest of the rude, entitled, immature, and downright disrespectful complaint posts that Zenimax punched them in the *** instead of just bringing down the servers with short notice.

I'm out of words how to describe this "more" early access time as compensation, ridiculous bulls**t, lamest action ever.

I am mad, not about downtime, but because we are bullsh**ed.
I never expected this to be perfect, and I am aware it will never be.
    BUT...
Game servers are currently offline as we prepare for the end of Early Access and worldwide launch.
This sounds like planned maintenance. If it is so, it would have been considerate to inform us. If it is emergency maintenance, why not say so? Why lie to us?

The North American and European megaservers will first be hosted in North America. This gives us a more efficient way to address any platform issues that may arise at launch. After the initial launch phase is over, we will move the European megaserver to the European datacenter.

there moving the EU servers from North American datacenters to European datacenters!

This would be the first time in gaming history that people have to pay for Beta access.

*snort* You obviously never played MechWarrior Online...

To go back to a post from when the servers were down on Wednesday,
Is this annoying? Yes. Am I mad? No. I am experienced enough in MMO launches to know that bugs happen; servers crash; maintenance happens at a higher-than-normal rate; things go wrong. I took the entire week off work to play through Early Access - sure, it is disappointing that the game has been down so much, but it isn't the end of the world! The game will be back... you may possibly have to wait until tomorrow to play, but so what? The exhaust system didn't just fall off your car and cost you $600 to replace. Your wife didn't just run off with your best friend. You are still breathing (unless you decided to hold your breath until the servers come back up, in which case you are probably very purple by now).

Sit back, relax, go watch a movie or talk to your Significant Other/parents/siblings or walk the dog. The game will be here tomorrow. And next week. And (hopefully) next year.

If you have to, just fire up your browser and go plan out your next character build. But stop stressing over things - it's bad for you!

    Peace!

Agreed most of the points, except the last one. Firstly the game is not officially released yet; secondly there are bugs existed year ago and it is still there, sure some others got solved but still a handful remains.

As someone who has worked as a lead dev for large online games, this is my opinion on the whole issue.

First, game studios as a general rule on are on the bleeding edge on the client side of things, but when it comes to server architecture and build/deploy systems, they are several years behind in what a lot of companies are doing now.

The only excusable reason for actually taking down a whole system is if you have data corruption, or a bug that could cause it, or some catastrophic failure. Taking a game offline for normal updates/patches should be a thing of the past. It is a thing of the past in other large equally complicated online systems, and most of the techniques are application agnostic, it doesn't matter if it's a game or a financial service.

I can forgive some downtime now and then, stuff happens and it can't be avoided. But to take a system down for several hours, and offer NO official explanation for why it was needed? That's not acceptable. If it's true that they had data corruption like the rumors say that effected player accounts, then it's even worse. Not being transparent about that is IMO borderline unethical.

So while I'm continually disappointed that game companies choose to not implement modern deployment/patching systems, I'm not overly bothered by that. What does get me riled is the total lack of transparency.

My only complaint is the lack of communication.

The launch has been relatively smooth, the game is mostly playable, and it's fun to play. Yes, their choice of downtime sucks, but perhaps there are good reasons. I say 'perhaps' because they haven't bothered to tell us why.

Please talk to us. Most of us want to listen, because we love the franchise and are ardent fanboys/girls. Please just tell us what's going on.

Nothing in the preorder details told me that it is a Beta access. All I know is that I paid a lot of money for being able to start five days earlier. OK there are some crappy gifts that go with it but let's face it, most ppl buy early access to start the game 5 days early.

This would be the first time in gaming history that people have to pay for Beta access.

To get the game ready for official launch? So tell the people for 'official launch' that the launch will be a day later because they have to fix all the bugs. Don't take it out of the time that people paid extra for.

Umm dark fall and now dark fall unholy wars has never left beta customers have been paying for beta in that game for YEARS..... Such potential much fail.
