Now that Staves are going to count as 2 pieces- are you going to revisit your build?

Yep, got some ideas I want to try out next update.

Might have to drop Mara resto bar due to the changes though, or use 5p on body & slot something like Maelstrom resto for some extra sustain - we'll see.

Can do 3 piece Mara, let the staff carry the next 2. Then use a 4pc of any set you want or two 2pc bonuses. So maybe fit BSW on rings+2body, 3 body + staff for Mara, then is one fire staff willpower for the extra max mag on offense and use whatever 2pc helm set you want?

Yeah, but that setup is basically just trading the Mara 4p 129 spell damage for Willpower 1451 magicka.

It is an improvement of course, but not really as impactful as I'd like.

What I'm leaning towards atm is 2x Skoria 5x BSW (main bar, 3x off bar) 5x Sun & Maelstrom Resto off bar for sustain (and possibly changing one jewelry to regen or cost reduction if that+elem drain aren't enough), but gotta wait & see what new sets there are.

Mael resto coupled with the new regen passive will probably be more than enough sustain. Thats like what, another 500ish regen?

With the changes coming up- technically, you could rock 2 Valkyn, 5 BSW, 5 Alteration Mastery to keep the same build- but beneft from reduced costs on both bars.

5 BSW 5 Overwhelming 2 Skoria & Willpower Resto (wtb Healing Ward buffing weapon...).

I'll update this build early next patch (assuming no other relevant changes besides the scales buff make it to PTS).

Is this currently working? I ran this pre summerset for months and loved it but with the spike in damage that came with summerset ive felt too squishy to be successful.

Sure, just tri-stat everything now (even jewelry) & wings is pretty much a must have to survive sorc RC combo.

Yeah, I was running something similar to this build based around BSW (so LA), kept eating 10k DBoS crits (not vamp at the time). I'm used to HA magicka builds so it was a surprise lol.

Awesome. Needs to go look up overwhelming. Barring any ethical standards you might have would'nt sloads technically be better?

Very nice build im running something similar on my magdk. Skoria, Sun on destro bar, Bloodthorn and maelstrom resto.
Can you really 1vX in cyro on that build?
Would you mind posting gameplay of it. Would prob help out alot of non block magdk's with open world stuff

It used to be okay I'm like 1v3 1v4s. Idk now thought it's so much harder to survive it seems.

It is nigh impossible unless you count pocket healer as your pet so that you can 1vX. Bleeds, defiles and Sload's on top of random 1337 sniper, you will die long before you can actually amend any if you play staff build without mobility and shield.

I have two mDK setups that I run in Cyro. One has Silks, Innate, and Domihaus. It’s pretty much a guaranteed 1000 spell damage increase on my firey DK skills.

The other build is a complete proc build- but it is very, very survivable because you can focus on building around regen and heals. Let your CP buff the procs. The build is Caluurion, Flame Blossom, and Valkyn. I allow the procs to act as the execute mDKs are denied.

After seeing this post resurface the other day I went back and tried mine. This was my main pvp character before summerset. I used surge/bsw/skoria in cp Cyro. The damage is great, 1v1 I melt people. I’ve had a few good 1v3-4’s but anymore than that and It’s rough. It’s really kill or be killed, most of your healing comes from being offensive. Once your overwhelmed resto ult and keep fighting. The kit doesn’t allow for movement and repositioning other then chaining away to different enemies. Currently I thought surge was quite average, it ticks for 800-975 on most targets. Free damage is nice but I’m messing around with other sets. Spinners will probably be the first I go to. Love the play style of the build though. No one expects a dk to come chaining it or to have as much damage as we do.

Try swapping out Embers for Race Against Time for more mobility & even more burst ;)

Most people die before you get to apply Embers on them, so this change is great as it increases the damage of skills you do always have time to use and makes up for most of the lost sustained pressure from Embers by increasing crit damage.

Also helps vs burst as it provides the Psijic passive damage shield when you block on the bar that it's on.

hm I feel like embers does get applied on most people but it wouldn’t hurt to not use it and just hit another whip. And I only apply it so I have the option for the heal. La, chain, la, ember, la fossil/whip combo, then dead. The heal from it would be the only thing id miss. Also that skill line.. again..

Also what are your thoughts on spinners or something other than overwhelming. I don have an overwhelming inferno, so I can’t control the proc as much and the damage just seems lack luster.

I keep overwhelming on both bars as it has no cooldown and helps out vs pressure when on the defensive bar casting wings, volatiles etc.

It helps proc Skoria a lot more too and targets cloaked NBs, so I probably wouldn't trade it for anything (besides Sloads, but that's getting addressed next patch).

Fair enough I do really like the range on the proc. Nbs can’t cloak out of the fight. Have you tried spinners or do we have enough pen already

I don't hate Spinners, but I don't think it provides enough value to be worth using (Overwhelming is strictly better vs dmg shields for example). Sorcs & NBs are the most popular classes, and Overwhelming helps more against both of them.

BSW I wouldn't drop for it either, it's a good main bar set & that proc buffs up Healing Wards a lot as well (which Spinner wouldn't).

Agreed. Bsw is a staple. Wouldn’t change it. I’ll mess with overwhelming some more and see what I think. Seeing it tick for 900ish just seemed underwhelming. Also, any clips of using race against time?

Agreed. Most people expect the classic "dot you down" dk...but we can have a *** ton of burst

I’m contemplating giving clever alchemist a try. Back bar it on the resto. Allows for 2 piece will power. Would have a huge burst window with that and bsw.

I'm not a big fan of Impreg when playing with mostly Healing Ward based defense (the 5p goes to waste half the time) & a build that aims to kill people before they become a problem to sustain/survivability (Impreg is a big hit to damage).

Impregnable is also much worse in noCP in particular, as crit chance & crit dmg modifier are both lower there.

You can make nice builds with Impregnable though, but they tend to be more focused around block as defense.
