• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

This region whining has got to stop.

I understand that downtime is frustrating in general, and ZOS does absolutely need to get their backsides in gear about giving people notice, but really. They are taking both servers down right now. That's a WORLDWIDE deal. I really don't know how much clearer this needs to be. It's not even hard to comprehend. It will ALWAYS be peak time for somewhere in the world.

I feel like the capsness is patronizing, but really, it's scaring me that people are complaining about this.

What part of EU and US megaservers being separated do you not understand exactly?

If I was an EU citizen playing on US server and planned maintenance was while I am normally playing, then so be it, I'm a guest on the US server. If I'm an EU citizen playing on the EU server and it goes down for planned maintenance during EU prime time, I've got an issue with it.

    Rather simple, yes?

When you have multiple servers in different regions, there's no need to take them down at the same times. You can take them down during off hours in their home regions... This coupled with the lack of proper in game announcements are very rookie mistakes...

Hopefully they figure things out soon.

i'd say the majority of ESO players will be working during the day, therefor peak play times will be 5-11pm...the exact times they seem to think maintenance is a good idea.

Actually there is when you plan to launch the game at the same time worldwide. The service needs to be ready all over the world. The fact is this whole EU primetime/US primetime bs needs to stop. I don't know about the EU but in the US pretty much all day is prime time, because everyone works different days/hours. We have people trying to play these games all the time and is the reason you can run into an American on just about any game at any time of the day.

Your post is ironic because, despite it's condescension, it's you who appears not to grasp the very basic concept that they could have staggered the planned maintenance so that it does not ruin prime time in any region.

I'm sure you thought it was extremely profound to state that it is "ALWAYS" peak time somewhere in the world. If you'd have gone to the next level of thought you'd have realised that the same applies to off-peak time. Whatever time it is, it will always be off-peak time somewhere - and maybe that would be a good time to do the planned maintenance.

The game's official launch is 4/4... In NA it's not 4/4, not even close. And just because there are players on at all hours of the day, does not mean there aren't prime times or peak hours... Y'know the times in which the majority of players will be playing.

Look at your own post, they took the US server middle of the day of the last day of early access. So, the US lost more of its early access time than the EU and had a 14 hr downtime due to database issues yesterday. Still I don't see a bunch of threads right now saying the company is being bais towards the EU for letting them have more time. The point is people need to stop making it a US vs EU thing, and look at it as all customers are getting messed over by this down time.

Easy way to put a stop to it, ZoS adopt a different patching schedule for EU and NA.

EU players are upset as well.....

I do see it as all players being screwed over by poor timing.. Yet you want them to continue, I don't understand.

While that is true, its only true to a point.

My last mmo I chose to play on the US server rather than the EU one as I have friends there. I could log in at 9am GMT and play all day and yes there are always a fair few people around. But the amount of players that appeared if I played in the early hours when it's prime time for the US was noticeably many many many times more. When I raided on the US server, while a few people were always around to raid, again most took part between 5pm and midnight US time and there's a reason why that always happened, because it was when the most people were on.

So it still makes sense to take servers down when the least amount of people are inconvenienced or at least not when the most amount of people are inconvenienced.

There's a reason road closures (in the UK anyway) are done overnight, or bridge maintenance etc, that's because it's the time it inconveniences people the most. I've been to the US many times, mainly to Florida but also Houston. And there are far far far more people driving about at 5pm on their way home from work than in the middle of the night.

I've worked shift work most of my life, I prefer working nights to days, I also realise that with that being the case, the chances are, any EU game server I play on is likely to have maintenance when I want to play. But I understand the logic in that as while I will always be the unfortunate one that is affected, it makes sense to do it at a time that keep the vast majority happy.

Its common practice, common sense and industry standard in IT to do maintenance when it LEAST IMPACTS THE CUSTOMER. Its really basic and there is not reason to have the servers down at this time - EU or NA. The EU Maintenance should have occurred after 12:01 AM on 4-4 (based on London, Paris or Berlin) and the NA time should have been 12:01 AM EST 4-4 IF you are 1)going the hamper the least amount of customers 2) release at the very first available moment. This is the first-time I have seen an MMO launch right at the release date and early for NA - 7 PM EST 4-3 is the launch time. Its more usual to have a launch at 12 Noon on the day of and that would be more expected AS ITS INDUSTRY STANDARD and I bet there would be a lot of people without their undies in a bunch over it. Its another way of devaluing buying the pre-order - especially for NA purchasers. It says "hey, if you didn't pre-order you can still get 1/3 of a day in as a head start" while we who purchased early are stuck with a loss of early access which reduces the value or why some of us bought early to begin with.

What is ticking people off is the lack of adherence to Industry standard by Zenimax

Oh, this is even better. In our august wisdom (we're all IT techs apparently), we have decided that the simultaneous server update was unnecessary. ZOS, please listen to the undeniable wisdom of random teenagers, they *clearly* know your servers better than you do. :)

    @MorHawk‌

    Servers host services.

    People pay for services.

When the services break people get annoyed and dont pay you for anymore of your services.

With big bucks involved there is no excuse for this amount of downtime, a few short restarts would have of been acceptable. It in fact would have been more acceptable if we had got prior notice.

Yes. Thankyou for that generic "I hate downtime" rant. Kinda completely misses the point I was getting at though.

Well just have to say "I told you so". It is still the 3rd over here in the states hate they have gone live and officially launched the game. Guess they need to do both servers at the same time.
