Maintenance for the week of September 22:
· [IN PROGRESS] NA megaservers for maintenance – September 22, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 10:00AM EDT (14:00 UTC)
· [IN PROGRESS] EU megaservers for maintenance – September 22, 8:00 UTC (4:00AM EDT) - 14:00 UTC (10:00AM EDT)

Now even I'm pissed off. prime time for Eu really?

Well if they waited until midnight EU it will be primetime NA. Not everyone can get what they want. Time for you to go outside and get some fresh air it seems.

But if they did the downtime 4 hours earlier then it would be middle of workday in US and the servers would be still up for EU primetime.

Middle of work day is right now. Beginning of day was four hours ago.

Yes, laziness and bad planning. One would have thought that 2 separate continental servers would results in proper maintenance schedules. It's not like this is a cheap game and we expect them to scrimp on support as a result. It's a £50 game with a £9 monthly sub, the least I'd expect is proper notification of planned outages and outages planned around continental norms.

I am pro-subscription because it should drive up quality but so far the service levels are way below a lot of F2P games.

I am really quite surprised by this, a perception takes a moment to make and a lifetime to break...
Is there a reason they can't shut down just the NA server, and shut the EU server down when it's not prime time?

If you actually paid for early access then someone somewhere ripped you off.

ignorant... go look that word up because you are ignorant.

The us server was down for 10 hours maybe they didn't want to further screw them over did you think about that? Also it is widely known that there are a lot more paying customers for this game there than here.

Now you look ignorant. They are two separate servers and maintenance could have been performed separately without inconveniencing either player base.

I think they're handling it pretty well, Keep complaining tho. I love watching the tears come rolling in when they're doing maintenance. you all are WAY over reacting to this. just chill out.

You have got to be kidding. This is the worse managed early access ever.

If you look at my other posts over the past couple of days on here, you will see that I have been giving replies similar to yours only I managed to do so without resorting to the sarky comments.

Again it's not that the servers are down, I understand what launches are like.

it is simply that from their wording, it was planned maintenance, and we had zero notice.

They didn't know yesterday? Or even 1 hr before they went off line today?

I have defended them non stop over the past few days, but to me an idiot can see how most people in the EU are going to react to this and for the vast majority of them, it will be the lack of warning for PLANNED maintenance that they take issue with.

The biggest complaint yesterday was the lack of info.

Servers should have been taken down at seperate times. Don't call it an eu server if you aren't going to treat it seperately. Could take down the servers seperately yesterday, why doesn't the same apply today?

No they arent shitting on you, its noonish in the USA during prime work hours. What did you think they would pay overtime to make people work at 2 am here?

Quite frankly yes. Because it's a premium game with a £50 price tag and a monthly sub. With that comes a responsibility to keep service levels to expected norms in the locales of all sets of paying customers. It's not as if EU money is worth less than US (in fact it's worth significantly more right now), therefore the service level should not logically be less.

We shall see if they iron these issues out in time...

it doesnt but the downtime could be scheduled more sensitively so as not to impact peak hours.

Surely the time for a maintenance to prepare for the game launch is 3-4 hours before the launch, not right at the peak playing time for most gamers? Are we seriously supposed to believe the servers will come online again in 4 hours time and remain running until launch tomorrow?
Of course in 4 hours time most Europeans who work for a living will be in bed, wouldn't it have been a nice reward for those people who PAID EXTRA MONEY for the pre-launch time to actually get to use it at a convenient time?

I can only hope one thing , that the people who have access to the game right now , in the early access stages , will be compensated for this , because , the downtime is just ridiculous

I'm interested in how you plan to quantify such compensation. For those who did the imperial edition at least there is a differential in the normal/special edition price. Early access is a free bonus for ordering early. So 1/3rd or 1/5th of 0 is still 0. Subscription time doesn't start until we go live. So really we haven't lost anything. Even if you want to take this as a lost day from our subscription 1/30th of a monthly sub at $15 U.S. a month is still only 50 cents. I'll personally wave off that just to keep down the amount of change in my pockets.
For all the millions of pages of codified law we have enacted in this nation alone, all of it, every word, sentence, paragraph and nuance, is steeped in the singular idea of this:

    "Be good to one another."

I went to check my emails for details of this ahead of time, so glad to hear I'm not alone in missing the memo! It was a surprise being kicked out halfway through creating a character. And after waiting all day, it's a shame to be kicked out 10 minutes in. Doesn't entirely make sense if the EU server is in a different timezone to NA, but mainly the point is communication.

If it's gotta be done, go ahead and do it, but please let us know in advance because this is one of three evenings and how is it not obvious that the entire EU playerbase would have just logged in?

You must have known you needed this final evening for preparation so that could have been made clear in everyone's email. I've seen a lot of adverts for the special items and woo, it's starting, but important details are important, Bethesda/Zenimax/Santa? I'm not really sure who's in charge :p
If at first you don't succeed, keep trying. And again. Eat a cookie, read a wiki, I dunno, just try to relax, the frustration will only give you a headache.

It is prime time somewhere on Earth at all times. They aren't going to do updates and patches at different times, that would be very detrimental to the staff who has to be there. You are essentially asking them to work far more hours just so you can play during your national prime time.

I agree with the lack of warning though. If this was planned, they need to be more forthcoming with their down time information. If it wasn't planned, they should definitely not be passing it off as such.

Sorry but they run a 24/7 service and just like any IT worker will tell you, working unsociable hours to do updates and patches when it inconveniences the least people,. is part of such a job.

If I had turned round to the 400 users of my computer room and said I'm doing a patch but I don't want to pay my staff overtime so you all have to sit there twiddling your fingers while we do the update during the time you need to get on, I would have lasted 30 seconds.

I've lost count of the amount of times I and others have worked all night, and nothing annoys me more that companies running 24/7 services and people thinking they should all go home at 5pm.

They could have done this at 8am EST. That'd be round 2-4pm in EU.
They say it was planned. Was it a Donkey that did the planning?

I wonder if you EU people also realize that your servers were up all day yesterday while US was down for about 14 hours. Please stop crying about a 3-4 hour downtime.

Please stop post this over and over. An unscheduled occurrence like that should have no bearing on the fact that this was an incredibly poor and ill timed scheduled maintenance for EU players. Stop saying people are crying simply because they are concerned by the fact that Zenimax clear didn't even consider the consequence of taking the servers down at this time. You perhaps should be more concerned that they as a company are capable of making such an oversight as it could well mean poorly chosen decisions that impact you.

Yes, I pay £9 a month for an Office 365 subscription. And guess what, Microsoft manage to give me service windows appropriate to my location - UK - as they do everyone else in the world. And I should expect nothing less, after all, to provide anything different is providing a degraded service relatively speaking, and if that were the case people would be clamouring for a commensurate drop in fees.

Just because it is a game it is no different, in fact it's a lot simpler to arrange.
