Update for Crashes/Freezing on Console

Can we get an actual detailed update what is causing this and what steps are taken at the moment?

Also ETA... this is not minor issue so would expect daily updates.

unfortunately NO, we cant. As with bug detection and fixing... its mostly a trial and error format. You change one thing... see if it was causing the issue... if not then change it back and test another thing. The problem is if you change more than one thing at a time you don't know what change affected the outcome. So its a slow process to say the least.

Also, I get the feeling they dont have a QA department... [removed bashing comment]

    Hi everyone,

At this time, we've gathered all the information we needed since disabling the previously-mentioned feature last week. We'll have a fix for the issue that was causing some crashes and freezing stemming from this issue, along with a handful of others, in the next incremental patch. We're still on track to release this patch the week of July 16, in 2 weeks.

Non committal very vague response. To be honest. There is no answer on to what was causing the issue and there is no certainty that their fix will work.

While they "think" their fix might work they are not sure... another sign they don't have an internal QA department. If they did... they would KNOW their fix would work because they would be able to recreate the issue and test their fix across multiple situations in order to check that their fix holds up.

Also, they say their fix is for "some" crashing and freezing.... honestly at this point I have NO CONFIDENCE in their ability to fix the issue...the only thing I am confident that ZOS will do is push out more paid DLC and make sure there is shiny new stuff in the crown store to sell.

I understand the concept of "don't shoot the messenger"....but what I understand more is "actions speak louder than words" and while thanking people for their patience is nice.... its doesn't fix the issues and bugs... and neither does ZOS.

Every time they say they will fix "some crashes and freezing" it never seems the be the crashing and freezing that i am experiencing. Funny how that works. Color me skeptical Gina but I've been crashing to the Xbox dashboard due to coding errors since Day freaking 1. This will probably only fix the new freeze with Summerset where you can still hear chat and stuff and have to manually quit the game but not the buzzing/hard crashes to the xbox dashboard that has been happening since before Summerset. When will THOSE crashes be fixed.

You know they are coding errors because you can call Xbox support the same as I can and speak with the people who worked on the console. When will you fix the bad code?

So it will fix the freezes that make you have to reboot the game? I know that is the main issue for pretty much everyone in PVP. We are all so used to lag and minor freezes by now.

Also, will it address the players being invisible?

I've had a couple of those crashes recently, and they're kind of refreshing at this point after the Summerset freezes. I missed the chat stuttering like crazy right before the black screen of the game shutting down.

Well they have no idea, they let condole get too far out of hand instead if trying to stay on top of it same with console customer service. Most mmos would be handing out freebies over this etc, but not ZoS bc I garantee they do not view eso plus as a subscription, more like something they force you to use for inventory management otherwise the game is more annoying then the bugs they ignore.

Thank you for the update, Gina. I really hope this fixes the bulk of the problems we've been having. If it doesn't, then I'm reluctantly un-subbing. :( This is such a great game when it's working well, and I hope the suits aren't so blinded by the Crown crate numbers that they can't see that.

in all fairness SOME of the time, not all, is due to having to wait for sony and microsoft to approve any software introduced to their networks. It basic network security... you don't want code operating on your network that can have a backdoor or expose an exploit on the network itself.

Im not defending them... I honestly have a low opinion of them, not bashing this time... its just an opinion, but I also don't believe in pilling up blame just because im not happy. To be fair I believe it takes somewhere around 2 weeks once submitted to be approved and disseminated into their systems. That is assuming that everything is a go the first time.... all the security certs are present , etc.

Another thing that seems to be going hand in hand with this is invisible players in a pvp environment, this can be in cyrodiil or anywhere in a duel and before anyone says it in not talking about night blades cloaking.

Invisible players seem to flicker in and out and will remain invisible whiles being damaged.

Well we might not be able to entirely disregard it. This was brought up before and Gina commented as if it was not true if i remember correctly.

I am interested in why Hi-Rez Studios and Zenimax online studios are claiming to be playing by different rules than one another. I posted the link in hopes of sparking a discussion or a ZoS employee to explain to us exactly why that studio gets same-day certification now but they don't. Or what the hold up is. You might not be wrong.

Still with all of that being said, its been over a month since summerset released so two weeks from now would actually make 6 weeks+. Even accounting for this alleged two week certification that is way too long.

It seems like AP ticks, maybe just defense ticks are causing it. Freezes are consistently happening at the same moment as ticks. When in a group, every time we'd get a defense tick, at least one—often many—people in the group freeze. Even enemy players (who obviously aren't getting the defense tick) are freezing at the exact same moment as group members and as the defense tick.

Good theory but that's not everyone's experience. I've frozen riding from Fare to Roebeck. No one around. I've frozen solo flagging BRK. I've frozen in midfall when killed. Heck, I've frozen in a load screen while trying to log back into the game.

PS4 and Xbox typically gtb the same patch as the aforementioned a few weeks after that patch. Can we assume then that we're getting a different patch?

Not to be rude but very vague response "that was causing some crashes and freezing stemming from this issue.."...

So is this perma freeze problem know known and will this be fixed?

Also how are you going to test whether the actual problem is fixed since it was not even spotted on release???

...or are we going to be ginny pigs for this? Considering you are not going rush the patch like you could if you wanted.

Thus why not speed this up if this is actually sorted. This is MAJOR issue on consoles and you have a lot of very unhappy customers!!!

Didn’t crash at all last night and I was on 1800hrs to 2200hrs.

I don’t enter a single keep or outpost... just stuck to the outskirts of contested keeps and outposts... still got defensive/offensive ticks with zero crashing.

Also spent a lot of time on resources farming kills and ap... zero crashes.

ZOS has proven time and time again that their QA process basically boils down to releasing their changes in PROD, and then seeing what happens. I'm basing this on....literally every single DLC that has been released for this game since day 1.

Seriously though, I think they have issues actually performing load testing and simulating the environment where these problems typically occur, but that's just speculation on my part, cobbled together from various posts about it over the years.

So do people realize now that Zos doesn’t put resources into something if it doesn’t yield money aka pvp. Tbh guys the patch that will come out more than likely still won’t work so be prepared for that. The only way to achieve our goal of a stable game would be to boycott the crown store and eso plus. This especially applies to the people who don’t do competitive pvp or pve but just vanilla zone quests. Please stop buying things from Zos until this bs is fixed.

Thing is, ZOS always talk about fixing freezes and crashes. But they have never mentioned invisible players with any single word.
What should it be to fix freezes and crashes, when we still have invisible players?

So when the patch comes out, it will be around 6 weeks since Summerset dropped. Meaning since last November, that's around 10 weeks out of about 35 weeks of horrible PvP play due to freezing, getting booted, frozen, etc....

For me personally, once Morrowind dropped, my game play was sketchy at best due to ZOS servers suddenly (no issues the prior two years) having trouble with my dynamic IP and not allowing to me play during peak time at all. So in the past year, I would guess that around half of the time I am having major issues with the game and the playability.
