Fishing in Summerset

I managed to get all the rare lake fish and river fish in Summerset. The time and effort needed is comparable with the live game. However I have not been able to catch any rare ocean fish as getting worms is nearly impossible - has anyone else managed this?
I found one foul fishing hole but as this was 3 weeks ago I did not take note of where it was and have spent hours trying to find it again. I hope there is more than one! I have not looked in any delves, trials etc, all my fishing has been overland but would be interested to learn if anyone has found foul fishing holes while adventuring underground? Or if they can point me to any overland foul fishing holes. Thank you.

I've looked around and haven't seen any foul fishing holes, sorry.

Do you remember anything about the area it was in? Section of the map, was it indoors or outdoors, maybe landmarks nearby?

Thank you WhiteCoat. I was busy farming for bait so wasn't taking much notice - stupid really!! I have a vague idea that it was close to the sea, at the end of a river, but have been all over those areas twice and still can't find it again...guh. So maybe faulty memory - could be anywhere. I thought it surprising as there was no reason for it to be foul. Also more than likely to be outside as I haven't found fishing areas inside as I haven't explored much inside. I am assuming the majority of foul areas must be inside as only having one foul area outside would be really bad. And i had assumed that there was no foul areas....until I found this one! Hopefully will get some exploring done today!

I found a Foul fishing hole at 33,71 x 46,22 N-E of alinor docks.....another foul spot is at 34,06x 46,22....very close to the other.....fishing spots aren't always available, it seems they work like other resource nodes

i'm using the special drink, hissmir fish-eye rye to identify the fishing holes and get recorded in Harvest Map addon (just catch one fish and having enabled the saving of node in addon options)
for coordinates, i'm using Map Coordinates by garkin & ayantir

ahhh Thank you sooo much Peppo - i will be off to have a look. As you say the holes probably aren't always there, which is frustrating but par for the game! Spent all day running round in circles so having a rest atm...lol

Well I have to say that fishing in summerset for foul fish is way more difficult than it should be. I have spent 3 days running round in circles, trying to find foul fishing spots and only found one which has not resawned in two days!! I can only hope that other people have been fishing out the holes - even although I didn't see anyone fishing anywhere! I am not sure if this is a bug. The river and lake fishing was the same as all other areas on the live game and I can't do much sea fishing due to lack of bait. If anyone has had more luck than me please post a reply, otherwise I will post my findings as a bug.

Are there foul water fish for the achievement? (To be clear, I didn't go for the achievement, I was just going around documenting holes.)

I never found any when I went around but they weren't probably up at the time.

I documented my findings for Votan and just updated with your two unconfirmed foul spots. I use AUI MiniMap coordinates and just plopped myself into the center of the hole to get the coordinate.

@ixie was very nice and gave me bait for my testing - I just asked in Zone chat for someone to offer some since their cloned characters probably had thousands in their craftbags (and on PTS, they wouldn't care if it got used).

Yes there are foul water fish for the achievement. After I put in the last comment I finally found the 2 fishing holes at the docks and caught a rare fish. So that is only 3 foul fishing holes I have found so far, which is pretty poor I think. Thankfully also caught a rare fish at the first hole I found - which hasn't respawned again!

Ugh.

I remember trying to get Foul trophies in Hew's Bane and it took me three weeks (attempting twice a day) because they were never up or just gave out the same green one over and over.

I really hope they can drop more foul spots for us (I'm sure there are plenty of icky/dire oceanic areas) or up the spawn timer.

Well like you I have been searching the whole island - round and round - and its so tedious. I am using Hissmirr Fish-Eye Rye which helps!

Previously spots in dungeons were foul (like in Wrothgar), maybe there are some in Summerset dungeons?

Thank you. I have been in a few of the delves with no luck but will try completing these and the dungeons today as this was my next task. It is such a slog searching underground as even with invisibility potions I end up having to spend ages fighting all and sundry! Even in the live free game areas there may be foul spots underground but there have always been enough overland areas to fish. I do not have any of the paid for areas so didn't know about Wrothgar.

I checked Sunhold and Karnwasten last night, all Ocean. I still have not run across one foul spot yet. I checked the coordinates given and those were not up but the water there looked Ocean anyway. The two that were on the dock for me were Ocean.

FYI - I'm actually fishing the holes to determine what it is vs using HIssmir to "tell me".

Just finished in Karnwasten and yes, that was a waste of time, so won't bother with Sunhold. Thank you again. There are 2 foul fishing spots off the seawall at the docks which I fished out yesterday but they still haven't come back up, which I think is a bit much! I did find one other spot at the welenkin geyser 2 days ago and it hasn't reappeared yet either. I am pretty sure there is another one somewhere at the end of a river running into the sea. This I found weeks ago before I was doing a proper test so didn't really take in where I was.
This is all so bad that it must be a bug! I have also found on numerous occasions the Hissmir not working - so many times that I have given up posting bugs!

My only consolation to this madness is I got Pyandonean bottles in Sunhold - that was kind of fun.

And the list I gave has three quest-locked ocean holes. I doubt we'll run into a deficit of fishing spots but; I'm keeping my main at that quest progression level so I can get in there if I want to fish in peace.

Yes all other fishing looks really easy with plenty spots, which is why I am so annoyed that the foul spots are just not there or take forever to respawn. Hopefully the devs read these post because I have just about given up the will to live!!

Oh and yes, I too have picked up lots of Py bottles - they are available at various spots.

well now that the game has gone live I have given up. I haven't bought the summerset chapter so cannot do anymore research on the live game. I do hope it is better than we found it!!

No it isn't. Two holes by the docks, one by the bridge next to a river, two in Karnwasten and a few unconfirmed next to geysers. All take ages to respawn, and get fished out very quickly by the hordes of angry fishermen

Yes. That is my experience on live. I know only of one confirmed near the Alinor geyser (where a dead crab is in the water).

Also I found only one lake spot, the one near the delve, which is even harder to complete for achievement.

Do you know of more lake spots?

Here are the 4 foul holes I found, marked with a yellow hook, I've added red circles to make them stand out. From what I've heard there are also 1-3 holes hidden in the public dungeons but I haven't looked for those:

All of these holes DO spawn as normal, however they are over-camped and generally fished empty within 5 minutes of spawning. Foul is obviously the bottleneck but it's no worse than for example river spots in The Rift. Most zones have a type of water that is rare and hard to find, for Summerset that happens to be foul.

Here is a wider view of Summerset, dark blue are river holes, cyan are the lake holes:

I did the smart thing and finished the achievement and got my full Pyandonean motif while everyone else was doing the quests. If you are just starting now, you'll find worms have become a near extinct species on Tamriel, nothing to do about that but pay the price or farm it yourself really. Or wait until the rush has died off a little.

That's why I bought 15,000 worms during the ESO + event.

I knew this was coming the moment they made motifs acquirable through fishing.

This grand total of 4 foul fishing spots in the main chapter zones is clearly not enough.

Maybe there are more, but I haven't discovered them. Even after having visited the whole map with the Hissmir beverage. But who knows, maybe I just missed them, which would be so easy considering they are never up! Of the four fishing holes, there is one (the one of the bridge) that I was lucky enough to see up for a grand total of one. single. time... allowing me to capture one. single. Trodh. before it dried up!

This utter nonsense is not even a grind anymore, since most of the time we're not farming the holes, but just rushing from Point 1 to point 2 (blessed be this one which has two holes) to point three and back to point 1, praying Z'en and Kynareth and Hircine for the holes to have respawned, which, of course, they have not. So most of the time, we do absolutely nothing.

There are tons of places where it would make sense to have foul water. Corgrad. Any geyser. The Rellenthil sinkhole. The entire course of the river coming from Cloudrest, presumably poisoned by Z'Maja's pestilence. But no, there are only four, two of them actually in a place where it makes no sense to have foul water.

There are also 3 Foul spots in Karnwasten, 2 when you jump down the very first bridge and another one in a back end room
