Hi,
I wonder if i could transfer my characters from my account bought through steam to another one i'd buy directly from bethesda. I know i shouldnt pay them for not fixing these issues but i'd rather spend another 40€ so i dont have to mess with that silly login problems tbh...

Ok I can confirm that this works!
Just bought the standart edition for 10€ directly from the website and can finally login through eso64.exe. Everything else is unchanged, Summerset is available and ESO+ is active. Took me max 5min, so if you want to free yourself from steam for 10 bucks consider that ;)

They shouldnt get money from being stupid. This workaround should be available to every steam user. This needs to fixed!

Well so much for the game is dead nonsense.....something happens and people rush to buy another copy because they gotta have their fix.

I'm just wondering how many folks that constantly complain here are doing that.....it kinda negates everything they have to say if so.

Good to point that thread out.

Also, huge assumption that this is Zos' issue to fix since it clearly only affects steam. Maybe we should be advocating not rewarding steam with more money for not fixing their links to external servers. Best to actually know what is going on before advocating such things.

I know we shouldn't "reward" Zos that way, but thats the only game i play and i've never bought a single crown crate or anything from the store, so i don't really care to spend some money to be able to play without that deadly annonying issues related to steam

Whoevers fault this is, i rather have a real solution then reading once more that this issue has been fixed and its not resulting in me going all beastmode.

Less expensive then suffering a stroke or heartattack.

If everything is transferring over, that's not nearly as bad as it could be. I mean, it's not like they're being asked to create new accounts and repurchase all their DLC and expansions.

Thank you for the information! I'm wondering if this would work for NA as well. I guess I'm a dash nervous but my desire to be free from Steam is stronger than that.

Well, I was new to online gaming and online game purchases at the time. I had heard that people use Steam for that sort of thing, so that's what I did.

Regarding that workaround with buying a standard edition to login without Steam, can anyone provide a more detailed instruction? Do I need to create a new ESO account or just buy it with my existing one? How do you not reinstall the game and still login after buying a new copy?

I just want to avoid frustration at this point.

It's not an assumption. I'm a steam user - i can login to NA server but i'm unable to login to EU servers. Both authentications are going through US servers (different IP pools).

If anything they should offer us an unlink from the service. Don't be dull to pay them for their mistake with buying a new account.

    Gift cards
    "Achievements"
    $10 sale
Probably more I can't think of.

A rl friend told me absolutely not to get it through steam, so i ignored the above and followed his advice. I should send him a thank you card.

I m not throwing any more money on them, seriously. It just solves the login-issue, all other issues still persist.

If ZOS had some balls, they wouldnt offer 1 extra crate for those who cant login, but a free non-steam version to all who use steam. Taking into count that it is not the first steam-zos issue and surely not the last one, this would be a fair fix for the problem. Anything else is not a solution to the original problem and therefore may not be rewarded.

Haha, they are not going to "offer us an unlink from the service." Calling people "dull" who are willing to pay (a mere $10) for freedom from Steam is actually dull, and I mean in both senses of the word.

You honestly believe they will transfer everything you ever did to a new account for a measly 10$? (the game may cost as much now, but it didn't before)

Moreover, the point you're obviously missing here is they are the party responsible for this "inconvenience", or frequently occurring faux pa of sorts, and you want to throw money at them for this?

    You must've lost your mind.

It's their responsibility to approach this maturely and recognize this probably won't work and work on separating from Steam ASAP.

@jedtb16_ESO I'm not much of a game player so I don't know anything about the video game scene whatsoever. When my friend talked me into trying ESO to play with her, she told me to get it through Steam. I didn't have any clue that it was available without Steam and I don't think she knew either. If I had known, I would absolutely have gotten the non-Steam version. I despise Steam.

Just give every steam user a login like the nonsteam user as. Same as buying it as surgested here. If Zenimax did that the problem would be solved. currently they are losing players by the minute. I am losing friends to play with because they fed up with this.

I wouldn't worry they will be back, in my guild we had about 30 steam users out of about 250 people all of them either borrowed a client or paid the 10 bucks to download the client.

In any event steam is patching this evening so the problem might be solved then

I can also confirm that this works on Macs as well. All characters, achievements, collectibles, everything is still there. What a relief. Totally worth the cost of a large double mocha iced latte.

ETA: It's a dash tricky finding the launcher. Here ya go: /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Zenimax Online/The Elder Scrolls Online/game_mac/pubplayerclient (Even though the path has Steam in it, it launches without going through Steam.)

Launch from Steam should be an option, not a necessity, especially when there are tons of other titles that have the option to launch in 'offline mode,' for instances where Steam is not working properly.

You just buy the standart edition with your already existing account, nothing gets changed. Everything thats doin is actually just making you able to login directly through the zos servers with your account credentials, as sad as it is....

Good question. Thing is, for lots of people they do not know what The Elder Scrolls is. So the only way they find out is through Steam with the adverts they give. Like for me I didn't know what Black Desert Online is, or Riders of Icarus or lots of other MMO games.

While I knew about Star Trek Online, I got it through Steam because I thought it would be safer through Steam than directly through the company who makes it since I never herd of them. I thought if I wanted to buy in game things with real money I can do that through my Steam wallet. Seems I was wrong there. I can't buy Star Trek currency through Steam like you can or could with other games.

Also it could have been on sale on Steam at the time and not through Zenimax.

But I think it's people who didn't know about it saw it through Steam and then checked it out that way.
Not my quote but I love this saying

"I would pay It for support. But since they choosed we are just numbers and not customers, i dont mind if game and zos goes to oblivion"

We all have an account with login and password. It s even simplier. They just have to allow us to connect.
