Horrendous Server Lag

This bug usually happens when I'm in the middle of a quest zone (i.e., Coldharbor for Lyris). What happens is rather bizarre. I will attack a mob, and the battle will start normally. Then, the mobs and I both freeze (think frozen in time). I will still be able to move around, but none of my skills work. Usually, I have to force quit the game, and I log back in dead.

I remember reporting this issue in beta. This is a game-breaking bug, and it *NEEDS* to get fixed ASAP. For example, right now, I am unable to complete Daughter of Giants because your server won't let me kill the last mob in front of the door.

If you haven't already try opening your ports.

Here are the numbers to ZOS servers according to this thread http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/63197/fix-for-some-of-you-an-unknown-error-has-occurred-a-problem-for-many-college-students#latest%

ports: 24100 through 24500 as well as 24131 through 24507 for both TCP and UDP

This isn't a server issue, this is a problem on your end, I know you won't accept that fact but the faster you do, the faster you can remedy the problem. Open your ports tone graphics etc...

Wrong, this is an issue between the megaserver and some ISP's, Zenimax blame the ISP and the ISP blame Zenimax, funny thing is we don't get this horrendous lag while playing any other game except ESO, at least for me that's the case, so we can't really blame the ISP and a lot of people are playing lag free so we can't blame Zenimax, pretty much a lose-lose situation.

I came home from work today and have horrible lag. Haven't had any issues thus far or during the betas. Hoping it's just an issue with a heavy load on the servers and nothing with my ISP...

    Either way...

@Sethren if you open your ports you should stop having problems. It's some connectivity loss issue with your connection to the server.

@Zilyana Thanks for being helpful rather than condescending. I will try this, and report what happens.

@Clotho... Ignoring your condescending tone, I am not opposed to finding out if it is a client side issue. I just want it fixed. I have been troubleshooting on my end to no avail thus far.

I have some other things to try. Opening ports being one of them.

Initial Update: Router gives error that 24131-24507 is an invalid range of ports.

    24100-24500 are now open.
Repeater installed. I'm on wireless connection. I know wired is better, but I'm in a situation where wired is not possible.

Now just need the server up, so I can test it. :)

If I had known which ports to open I would have done so... But I the fact is that support is so hammered that they don't even reply to my tickets. And the majority of the time I've found that I cannot rely on the information others give me in the forums. So I failed to even look. Mea Culpa!

Still I will try what you've suggested. And if that resolves the issue I will be very grateful.

Sadly that failed to resolve my issue. If anything the lag spikes last for 3-5 seconds now. Before they only lasted 1-2 seconds. I'm trying to contact support now.

Oh... for the record: if there is some "issue" between Zenimax and some other ISPs. Why didn't the problem manifest itself sooner?

I personally didn't have that issue before yesterday. When they (ZOS) had the morning downtime. Only after that did I start having this problem. And I was hoping they would "fix" some of my other issues, that don't seem nearly as bad now.

the only other observation that I'll make is that even if it is some issue with traffic being routed through certain ISPs. That is still Zenimax's problem. I can't do anything about it. And I don't see why I should be penalized for no reason, and through no fault of my own.

the bottom line is that if Zenimax wants me as a subscriber then they better figure out a way to resolve the situation. What I do know with absolute certainty is that I never had issues like this with other MMOs.

I located the source of my issue. Mine centered around a combination of my wireless adapter and my router. While the adapter worked fine for trivial internet activities (checking mail, surfing, etc.), it was starting to have trouble with maintaining a continuous flow when gaming. I got a new wireless adapter, so the "frozen in time" issue is completely resolved.

However, the leftover issue is with the router periodically stopping its wifi signal. This results in an automatic disconnect from the game. It quickly reestablishes connection, but it is frustrating to be in the middle of a quest, and bam! DC. It doesn't have that issue with wired, but the wireless portion of it does. It is a known issue with the brand of router/modem/gateway.

Looks like I need to give my ISP a call.

I have the EXACT same problem. Game worked fine before launch, now it doesnt (which is absolutely backwards no matter what you say)
