But you said only a few sets in this game were viable...
Dude there are ALOT of viable sets out there that are fully viable...
But of course you gotta be able to be able to think and simutaneously be creative to realize it...
Just for the record, and this is not a knock on @THEDKEXPERIENCE but he is Zerg surfing in this anecdote and literally anything is viable in those situations. Again, this is not a criticism of that playstyle whatsoever, just a true statement.

It’s insane.
I’m also starting to think I should fish my Vicious Death out of the closet.
VD was fun.
So yeah, VD + Illambris + Time Freeze + Templar Triple Fireball or Lightning Staff Fire enchant or Ice Comet = Melt

Post vids when you get a chance. Those combos look nasty on paper.

If you can give me a quick tutorial on how to do that I’d be happy to. I’m not that great with that stuff. Maybe a twitch stream?

You play on Xbox right?
On PS4 I can link Twitch/Youtube, save the video via the Share button, then upload it. Never played/owned a Xbox.

Something happens, double click big middle Xbox button, and hit "X" for "record that"
Go on laptop with Xbox app. Download video
Either use an editing program to remove 30+ sec of walking lol or just upload on to YouTube

Here's that universal magicka build I talked about in the magnb thread. I've tried this setup on magplar, magdk and magnb so far and it works pretty well on each class. I call it the "Star Breaker" build xD

Run whatever glpyhs and jewelry traits you want on this build, you will still have really high base stats.
Enjoy~

Re: really high base stats
I got my first gold necklace last night. Pushed my magic on my Magplar above 52.8k for the first time.
Still don’t have Undaunted 9.
My crack-like magic addiction knows no ends.

Viable =/= optimized and competitive. Illambris, as I said in that very post, most people do get out of that circle unless they are total beginners. And Illambris is very much overshadowed by: Skoria, Grothdaar and Zaan because it is placed AoE and the platform I play, people always gets out of the placed AoE. So, it may be situationally viable. And it still is not optimized or really competitive in other situations. As I said, only few sets offer distinct advantage and do not really get overshadowed by sets with similar functionality. That is why there's only few viable (in this case, competitive and optimized) set choices.
5x Buffer of the Swift 5x Ashen Grip 2x Bogdan on a magden ice staff bow build with invigorating traits of body and protective traits on jewelry... no armor, weapon, or jewelry enchants because the build performes fine without them... also use the sweet roll food for role play reasons

Now you are moving goal posts...
First you said "only a few sets are viable."
Now you are saying "optimized and competitive."
These are different things...
A given build that is "optimized and competitive" may well be inferior to another build that excells at Zerg surfing (for example)...
In conclusion, there are many viable ways to character build in this game that will yield good results...
It just depends on what you want your character to excell at...

And how do you determine what is "optimized and competitive," by the fact that everyone else does it or someone told you so? Fact of the matter is, PvP still requires enough skill to make a build work and even then someone can have enough skill to make it NOT work. You can wear whatever meta you want and still get destroyed by someone that isn't. When that happens, what is "optimized and competitive" then? Don't bring up the pathetic argument of "skill levels" and state something similar to "if they were on the same skill level it wouldn't have happened." How do you know that? PvP is not PvE where you can actually determine what is the best and fight predictable, brain-dead opponents. You can and will find yourself in completely unpredictable situations where more than just the sets you wear count.
Let's not even get into "overshadowed by sets with similar functionality", have you looked at the set list? What similarity are you talking about? General idea of doing damage? General stat boost? Even Skoria, Grothdaar, Zaan, and Illambris are all situationally better than one another. Versus any "skilled player" all of those sets would be better replaced with a defensive set because you gonna die in 2-6 seconds.
As fruitless as it is, I will say this, in this game, gear does matter which is why few gear sets always form core at the heart of competitive (meaning, competitive in almost every situations). Unoptimized/uncompetitive sets as I said are 'viable' but overshadowed in performance by similar but better sets. Like Truth outclasses Senche for example. You may get very specialized build outside of those sets that is good at handful of situation but that really isn't exactly competitive. Which is why we see a convergence into few sets as core part of the builds used by very skilled players. Skills now is basically a fraction. If you don't think gear matters all that much, then refer to defile/bleed and proc meta. Tell me how successful you are without proper gear setup for bleeds on people who are decent players for example.
Skoria/Zaan/Grothdaar >>>>>>>>>>>> Illambris for PvP. Illambris is literally only good against people who like to stay in the red without thinking of moving out of it. If I see you using Illambris, I will consider you a very easy target and it always had been the case. There's a reason why this is limited to PvE usage in theorycrafting. Try tell good players with offensive gameplay to not use Skoria or Zaan. You won't be able to get them off of it. As they also tend to build for defense more. Illambris fails in most of PvP environments provided that enemies are even slightly competent.
