Campaign suggestion to spice up PVP

PVP hasn't really changed much since day 1. The rules of victory are still pretty much the same... the style of play is the same... the builds are all based upon the same concepts.

Was talking to a bunch of guys when in Cyrodiil the other night, and we all agreed it would be great if we could spice up with a new style campaign.

It started with the concept of "raging barbarians" (similar to Sid Meier's Civilization). Basically NPCs that would randomly attack keeps and settlements and force factions to start to be more strategic and flexible. Maybe even have it that "barbarian camps" could be disrupted by opposing factions to anger them and enrage them to attack nearby keeps.

Then the discussion took a further leap... an NPC controlled faction. The Imperial Legion. They could actually take over keeps and take them under their control. When a campaign is being dominated by a particular faction with more of their players in the campaign, the Imperial Legion could be a "balancer". The more of one particular faction, the stronger the Imperial Legion will react to restore some balance - even taking full control of outposts or keeps.

These changes would also mean that players need to consider balancing their groups with tanks, healers - and even force some DPS to take on PVE gear to balance their fighting groups. It would lead to far more depth of builds... and also, when the campaign is quiet, rather than players just repairing walls for AP and leaderboard pushes, it would mean that players would still have stuff to do fighting against NPCs... maybe for lesser AP (something like 50% compared to taking on real players).

Thoughts? It wouldn't need to apply to all campaigns, just maybe one or two specifically designated.

    You don't "spice up PvP" by adding more PvE.

    As Rianai said I don't think adding more PvE based elements is the right direction.

    The issues I see it which are stopping Cyrodiil being interesting are.
    • Loyalty to factions (free switching hasn't helped balance in the way we wanted).
    • Meaningful campaign objectives/victories.
    • Investment in keep mechanics and defences.
    • Stability (this is a huge one)
    • Support for all styles of play to have objectives/goals.

    I think that if Cyrodiil were stable and the lag lowered enough that players could get through the night without laggy skills, long loading screens, and random disconnects, we'd see a large enough population that there'd be more spread out action and interesting enough combat beyond the same old faces at the same old places.

    I don't think that we need to change Cyrodiil's mechanics until the base problems at the root of Cyrodiil's poor performance and population are dealt with. Fix the lag and the server stability. Everything else, even beneficial changes like removal of AOE caps, is just window dressing on the main problem of lag and the servers.

    (1) Why don't we build walls, around our territory we control. Or stronger defense within a defense of keep. Could be made out of wood or stone. (2) At same time, wall cost gold and or AP. However, since both Wood and Stone wall fortifications. It will be outmost expensive.

    (3) Everyone needs to pay up. Like a lottery of sorts, like a group pay for wall. As with real life and Ancient fortifications, to control enemy and good defense for defender's. (4) However with same time, it could be Coffers for Alliance. Don't directly come from other people.

    (5) With that being said, be a time limit for a certain area, after wood/stone fortification was used. However for balance with walls and not making power alliance make to many walls. (6)Hurting Alliance, is way Cheaper and less expensive.

    (7-8) More dominating Alliance, Walls be way more expensive than the hurting Alliance. Whilst Middle Alliance is more expensive than the First Alliance. As well as less expensive the Middle Alliance will be, from the Dominant Alliance. However to make it more fair for all 3 alliance.

    (9) All walls must decay, within a certain time frame. Once new fortified walls we PvPer put up decay. We must wait for timer to end to out up new walls. (10) But we are still allowed to fix decaying walls. (11) But decaing walls, will help the enemy, but hurt the defenders. (12) add enemy NPC seige, just like that one in Orsinium DLC.

    you're forgetting learning curve. one shot gank builds are a turn off to new players

    I don’t think PvP needs even more PvDoor. If players wanted that they could simply do dungeons or trials.

    great job...yes sir, that would definitely spice things up...

    I really like the idea if npcs using siege...that's an awesome idea...not sure how those folks in no cp campaigns would manage - but, it would be an interesting element to add...

    I also really like the idea of aiding low pop factions...

    No, but playing Cyrodiil for about 3+ yes. As well as me remembered the Original Forward camps. But taken away due to DK originally jumping on forward camp and flying over keeps. Just need something new with walls. Since also nothing has changed for walls for 3+ yrs in Cyrodiil. These walls will help the defender's who are defending keep. Plus keep is respective territory and among other things. Besides no offense Walls in real life is way older in use for wars. Plus I dislike having walls in my country anyways. So I greatly disagree wall in peace time. But since Walls where use in real life Wars including Ancient Wars and Feudal Period. Hence why I mean walls are way older, especially our ancestors in real life. Whom build walls for defense. Not to mention Cyrodiil is considered warfare in game. Hence good idea for walls, especially in past long forgotten.

    Keep walls get stronger the longer you hold the keeps and its resources, so if you are really that committed to walls as defense you should work on holding keeps and resources and making sure the walls are fully repaired after they upgrade.

    I'm honestly not a big fan of your idea (i think Cyrodil is just to small to start dividing it by walls) but I wasn't trying to mock you or your ancestors. A meme is a meme and I was having some light hearted fun since Mr. Trump is also a big supporter of walls.

    as I mentioned earlier - I think the npcs being able to siege is very interesting...

    I know zos would never devote resources to it - but, it would also be cool to see some new siege equipment introduced in to cyrodiil...

    the idea of erecting scaffolds (for going over keep walls), or, being able to construct temporary defensive wall structures has been brought up before...

    A meme is just some joke/funny picture/video/gif that is oftenly used on the internet. Since Trump is so vocal about his plans to build a wall a lot of people make fun of him and it became a meme. So yes, it was a little joke. And as you can see by me apologizing in the same post it wasn't even a good one. I just like those little comments like that and sometimes can't hold myself off of using them.

    11. As with real fortified walls, decaying walls is weakness for defenders. So defenders look out!

    Also new idea, all resources around keeps should pay half for third line defense walls. That way if no one can afford, at least all 3 alliances have something. With that being said. To make it more fun, keeps we control can make money to pay for third line defense walls to. However there is a catch. These Coffers from keep goes directly to each Alliance churches outside of bases. The Money from keeps. We the PvPer must steal these Coffers from churches outside the bases! But hurry, enemies who stole opposing Alliance Coffers from the Churches. There is a set time limit and every 2 minutes, certain amount of money dissappear. So hurry to get to you respective Alliance church in base or out of base. before time runs out, all the Coffers you stole from enemy churches and carry will suddenly dissappear. Plus it help with Ap grinding in churches. Did I failed to mention 15 minute time limit, for Coffers to fully dissappear after you stole enemy Coffers?

    I really like the idea if npcs using siege...that's an awesome idea...not sure how those folks in no cp campaigns would manage - but, it would be an interesting element to add...

    I really like the new siege as well. I don't thing Greek Fire would help. Plus now Naval Warfare. Siege tower won't work and grappling hook to. I unsure what other siege we can add. Scaffolds would make sense to or under group trenches and destroy wall underneath. Or ram with fire. :)

    No, but playing Cyrodiil for about 3+ yes. As well as me remembered the Original Forward camps. But taken away due to DK originally jumping on forward camp and flying over keeps. Just need something new with walls. Since also nothing has changed for walls for 3+ yrs in Cyrodiil. These walls will help the defender's who are defending keep. Plus keep is respective territory and among other things. Besides no offense Walls in real life is way older in use for wars. Plus I dislike having walls in my country anyways. So I greatly disagree wall in peace time. But since Walls where use in real life Wars including Ancient Wars and Feudal Period. Hence why I mean walls are way older, especially our ancestors in real life. Whom build walls for defense. Not to mention Cyrodiil is considered warfare in game. Hence good idea for walls, especially in past long forgotten.

    I'm honestly not a big fan of your idea (i think Cyrodil is just to small to start dividing it by walls) but I wasn't trying to mock you or your ancestors. A meme is a meme and I was having some light hearted fun since Mr. Trump is also a big supporter of walls.

    Not in CP PVP anyway once I taught myself to solo resources. I've never tried to solo a resource in No CP PVP, but I'm told the NPCs are much more difficult.

    Now, if you were talking about delve NPCs, yeah, those aren't any more of a threat that the delve NPCs are in PVE.

    I was testing out Vampire ult I unlocked. I all healer mostly, with sweep spam and vamp bane. I must admit I kinda cried how weak I was in Shor EP zone Chat Tuesday night, my time. Guards will always be a problem for me, especially in cp. :wink:

    Level 5 resource NPCs are definitely tough to solo in noCP, fresh level 1 ones not so much. The usual strategy works however, you can pull one healer and one guard into the tower and kill them and the mage on top and then deal with the rest. Also you can soften them up before engaging with a Meatbag. That’s a bit cheesing though.

    NPCs would be easier if the CC and the ability around them were finally behaving normally. Nothing like being chain CCed. Also some of the NPC still use abilities from former times. They never were updated, so it’s not consistent with player abilities.

    Listen, I'm not saying make all PVP campaigns like this... I'm suggesting a separate campaign (or two if you want a no CP version).

    Right now, there is a divide in the community between PVP and PVE. I don't really see this as PVE - I see it as a further extension of PVP. Not to mention that it would bring a LOT more players into the PVP fold (which I think we can all agree is much needed).

    PVP already has NPCs in, and those are a utility for PVPers (drawing the enemy into the guards etc). It would literally be similar tactics, but require more skill and articulation to take advantage.

    I've played pvp and pve for 3 years now - and have to say, I'm getting very bored with both. Even new dungeons don't feel new - and PVE gets a lot of new content... so imagine how bored a lot of people are getting with PVP!! Nothing in Cyrodiil has changed since the Imperial City (and the changes there already killed it nearly completely).

    For myself, the thing that makes Cyrodiil exciting isn't the landscape or the NPCs. Its the players. The landscape and the NPCs are the static unchanging stage on which we play out our battles, player vs player, raid vs raid, faction vs faction.

    I play PC/NA regularly, and no night is ever quite the same. That's why Cyrodiil keeps me interested because I'm fighting and strategiz8ng against someone better than any NPC AI can hope to be: enemy players.

    not to get too sidetracked from the original discussion - but, what you said has to be one of the more puzzling aspects of the game which i've encountered...

    you would think that since zos has access to the player participation data - they would have reverted those changes (adding in district flags and making it so that you can't rez in a district without control of the flag)...

    the change to tel-var loss was okay...dumbing down the npcs was alright...not allowing for the Assault Reach passive to work on platforms sucked...but, making it hard for us to fight where and when we want - was not cool at all...

    my impression at the time was that zos wanted to spread us out in IC, but, that wasn't what most of us wanted - at the very least what i wanted...

    besides for the fact that we have to trudge through cyrodiil (sometimes as long as 4 minutes or so) on the mount simulator just to access a dlc we all paid for...

    Nah, I want invasions.

    If a faction pushes all the way to the scroll gates, as well as the keep before them (three in total), rushes through the gates to the faction spawn points (north or south gates) and make it to a certain point, each player be given an invitation lasting 60 seconds to accept and be put in queue for a raiding party to invade one of the faction's base PVE overland contents. Within that queue time, an invitation then goes out to everyone of that invaded overland content's allied faction to accept an invitation to defend the zone.

    Each zone would have an objective, and objectives could be randomly chosen between 10 or so quests and you only have a limited amount of respawns per alliance for each objective, maybe 50 per alliance.

    ie

    1 - Defender Objective:
    1) Repel enemy for 10 minutes from taking "Crosswych" from the mountain pass.
    - if victorious, invasion ends
    - if defeated, fall back and defend Aldrich ports

    1 - Attacker Objective:
    1) Conquer Crosswych to establish a base of operations
    - unlocks siege engine merchant to purchase scattershot catapults and stone trebuchets for use in later battles (due to Crosswych being a mining community)

    2 - Defender Objective:
    1) Repel enemy for 10 minutes from capturing Aldrich
    - if victorious, momentum buff gained and new objective to destroy enemy base of operations in Crosswych
    - if defeated, fall back to defend the castle of Daggerfall

    2 - Attacker Objective:
    1) Capture Aldrich ports
    - if victorious, unlocks battering rams to be purchased
    - if defeated, must defend Crosswych and spawn point

    3 - Defender Objective:
    1) Defend King of Daggerfall
    2) Push back invaders
    - if victorious, take back Aldrich and Crosswych
    - if defeated, get King of Daggerfall to safety to the docks etc etc

    3 - Attacker Objective:
    1) Capture the King of Daggerfall
    -if victorious, buff for certain amount of time given to invader players outside and inside Cyrodiil for 24 hours or so etc
    - if defeated, must must defend both Aldrich and Crosswych with only 50 respawns.

    Goes back and forth, but a general idea. It'd be so freaking dope with the idea polished up and everything. Give players outside Cyrodiil something meaningful and to always be ready to protect their faction just in case. Gives incentive to keep more faction players loyal to their faction areas. Invasions would be instanced out for the participating players and could only have as many invading players as their would be defending players who selected to go in.

    It would be dope as heck. Would semi feel like a barbarian raid with pvpers having impen armor and burst against pve wall defenders etc. Instanced versions would make the objective areas and terrain between more styled for war ie being able to scale the wall and put oils down, catapults etc in major cities and palisade walls as example being closed in Aldrich and other entrances sealed off. Make flanking a real thing in taking a longer route to get around a more exposed area in the town etc.

    Just some basic thoughts and it could go individually and uniquely to each overland zone for their faction. Holy fetch I'd be pvping for days then! Plus, it would remove faction population in Cyrodiil of the aggressors so the weaker alliance could push out and be given time to take hold of their territory again and possibly go for scrolls.

    OR even if you die as an invader, you spawn back in Cyrodiil unless you have your first objective taken as an HQ.

    There would be a ton of awesome ideas to spice it all up, but in my opinion, this would be SO sick to implement. A lot of work, but I feel a lot of open-worldlike PVP feel to it.
