What makes the experience fun for you?
BejaProphet wrote: »There are two goals as a tank in ESO.
1. Prevent one shots on team mates.
2. Facilitate DPS.
That's all. There may be a lot that we are doing to achieve those two goals but that's really all it is. Not dying is not one of the tasks. Nobody should be dying. You don't get any points for that. Don't believe me? Build an unkillable tank but fail at preventing one shots and fail at enabling the group to do their job killing and see if people want you as their tank. Standing unbreakable among the corpses of your team feels fun to you, not to them.
Prevent one shots: Healers in ESO are notorious slackers when it comes to healing one-shots. Our job isn't to get every monster to attack us. Our job is to make sure the creatures who can drop a person in one shot are hitting us instead. One of my rookie mistakes as a tank was trying so hard to grab everything that eventually the one thing that was the true threat slipped away and killed somebody. Yes, control as many creatures as you can, but remember your job is the big threats above all. We also achieve this goals by standing on geysers, shielding our party when we see a giant aoe incoming, standing in the way of directional attacks like on Lord Warden, the big green guy in Ruins of Mazzatun, Zaan's fire cage stream etc. We also do this by constantly being the one to interrupt the bosses, turning the bosses away from the group etc. The healer's and the DPS's job is to patch up the nickel and dime stuff, we do everything to make sure nobody instant drops so the healer can do their job. This is also why Ebon armory is a great set for a tank, it raises the entire's group's health so that it raises the threshold of what will one-shot them.
Facilitate DPS: When we think of this our mind usually goes to abilities and gear sets. But don't miss the biggest way that tanks facilitate DPS. The ability to keep a fight STATIONARY and CENTRALIZED is by far the biggest thing the tank does to facilitate DPS. This can not be over estimated. If you are trying to DPS as a tank in such a way that you are turning the pulls into a giant mess, you are robbing the team of more DPS than you realize. If you can DPS and keep the fight stationary and centralized then good job. If everything is running everywhere so you can feel like you are hitting numbers, you are killing your group. Some people run DPS builds with a taunt and they say crap like, "If I can taunt the boss and not die then its tanking." But the entire dungeon is a giant chaotic pile of crap and everybody is miserable. Having been toying with my wife's healer/dps character lately I have a whole new appreciation for this. Get the fight in one single place, drag the mobs there, and hold the fight still with roots and taunts will allow your group members who are meant for DPS to actually do it. It is HUGE. It is the single difference between a group functioning as a group and everybody running around in total chaos. Beyond that we facilitate DPS by sets and abilities. Things like War horn, Alkosh or Torig, engulfing flames, crusher enchant, pierce armor, molten weapons (and any and all means from other classes as well.)
Why is it fun? I just love going up to the strongest creatures in the game and letting them pour out insane rage against me, but I get to say, "You aren't taking us down. You can't, because I'm not breaking. I'm not tiring. I'm not letting you go."

Will you be interested in it again after summerset changes?

Yes, because I'll have some new tools to work with but it'll never be the same. I'll still be at the mercy of bad DPS but at least I'll be able to control mobs better.
Small victories.

What would allow you to better dps while tanking?

For ZOS to revert Siphoning Atacks back to pre-Morrowind values but we all know that won't happen.
Really, the main issue is that I've had to drop the damage glyphs I was using pre-Morrowind for Potion glyphs in order to sustain myself. For PUGs, I didn't need a sustain set at all and could use a damage set alongside Ebon since most other sets weren't helpful in PUGs (Alkosh, Torags, etc.) and I'd still be able to do 15k damage minimum, more if the healer had SPC and kept Combat Prayer going consistently (think I peaked at 22k on my old Sap Tank) Now, I barely break 12k and that's using a MA Ice Staff backbar. It's disheartening.

What do as a tank dos that's different from say just a tank? How is the experience different?

Maybe jelwery crafting will help? Infused trait?

Not sure if it'll make that much of a difference honestly. At best, I'll be able to drop 1 potion enchant for a damage enchant but I'm still not going to get that much more damage for it. I might get to 13k instead of 12k but it still feels low in comparison to the old days.

Then maybe a different set?
https://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Curse+of+Doylemish+Set
(2 items) Adds 1206 Max Health
(3 items) Adds 1206 Max Health
(4 items) Adds 129 Spell Damage
(4 items) Adds 129 Weapon Damage
(5 items) When you hit a taunted monster with a fully-charged Heavy Attack or any enemy that is stunned or immobilized with a fully-charged Heavy Attack, you deal an additional 12040 Physical Damage. This effect can occur once every 7 seconds.
There's a few others like this, but this is most notable one I recall. What would be an ideal set to help character?

Holding Agro and stacking adds as much as I can. What rules do you follow?
Off-healing tank (NB). I do what every tank does, but I have Refreshing Path and Funnel hots to help healing which reliefs pressure a bit for my healer in dungeons (I pug a lot). I also use Sentinel of Rkugamz to help my Stamboys sustain, while also allowing me more or less to permablock. I use Swarm Mothers on trash fights though. How do you play the class?
I am the one who faces the boss, I am tanking and protecting my team. I am also supporting them as much as I can, doing the debuff/buffing game and sustaining myself to keep me alive. Tanking when done right just feels good, I can't explain it. Have you ever played DPS and joined a pug, and noticed the tank only taunts and press block and does nothing else? It's frustating! Adds running everywhere, and we have to single-target them making the fight take so much longer than needed. But not when I am the tank. Not on my watch, ***. You get your ass here and you better try to hit me as hard you can, skeleton archer, also your brothers. What makes the experience fun for you?
Do you find ESO tanking different from other classes?
