Bethesda has repeatedly said that they won’t even be talking about elder scrolls 6 anytime soon. I don’t know where you got your rumor from, but that’s all it is, a rumor.

If rumors are true, we are soon anticipating the sixth instalment of the TES epic saga. It will be inevitably on market shelves no matter what ESO community thinks. The thing is the release of TES6 will dramatically affect the outflow of ESO players from the game to gain new experience in TES6. The ESO release was a breath of fresh air for all TES community, notwithstanding the fact that Skyrim is still in vogue amongst tons of gamers. It was a great marketing strategy to release ESO in several years after Skyrim when TES5 worls has already been explored by all for multiple times, and I'm no exception. New world, new experience, and the thing all players have been dreaming of for ages - to be drowned in TES world with all other travellers and wanderers, that's why the game is so popular. But what should the game ancicipate with the TES6 release? Will ESO community leave the project for trying TES6? Of course, all would like to try this one. But DAMN, how to combine all these two games?)

I will still log in and continue to play ESO no matter what later ES title comes out. I'll play TES6 as well, as I am sure I will play the hell out of it. But I will still continue to play ESO just like I still very actively play Oblivion.

Is still several years before we get a new Elder Scrolls game. Even when Bethesda release the new IP they are working I may just leave the game temporally. Because of the daily rewards I may try to log each two or three days to claim the rewards and avoid the guild traders of kicking me.

All of this changes if HalfLife 3 were released. I will wanna play it until I finish it and play it again a number of infinite times.

It would affect the population at release pretty hard I would suspect but after a few weeks or months it would just even out again.

The sooner TES VI will come the better for ESO. When pubbies were still into Skyrim, first years of ESO were actually very good. Vanilla thru 1.5 till 2.3 was representing game, decent player wanted to play. I am hoping that when casuals will leave the game, the time of difficulty will come again, in form of old school server.

The great thing is... I've read many people say, "I'll just play ESO 'til ES 6 comes out..." Then ESO's so good, they never want to go back to single player ES games.....

While I don't really agree about casuals leaving (since I'm pretty much a filthy cas at this point), it would be nice for us/them if the people who are biding their time with no interest to play a game they care more about. I'll still be in and out of ESO because it's just something I just enjoy.

That said, I'm not sure what the doom and gloom is about. I agree with the statements that say there'll be a definite abandon-ship for 'some' of the population but that it'll eventually bounce back up. It's not just old ESO players that will come back either. When first-time ES players thirsty from 6 start looking for something new to play and old-time ES players want to keep playing new content they'll also probably look to ESO as one of their choices. There's a lot of appeal as something that's going to keep giving you more story/game to learn and play with.

I would be surprised if TES6 came out before the next generation of consoles are on the market. If I find it to be as immersive as Skyrim was, then yes I doubt I will have time for any other game for many months.

It would pull me a bit away but I would still play a lot of ESO for the social aspect, and I probably won't buy TES6 right away, despite being the huge TES fan I am, until a lot of mods come out for it.

I tend to play the single player TES games for a few hundred hours then stop, and maybe return to them months-years later.

MMOs and singleplayer games don't really compete like you want to believe they do. So it probably isn't even slightly a concern to ZOS, especially not one that's from the same IP.

FFXIV was entirely unaffected by FFXV's release.

I do not agree with you. Many people on my friends list and many guildies do not even log during the Steam sales times or a major single player game release. When you reach certain age, you have very limited time to play games and have to divide that precious time between the MMO that you love and the single player game that you have been waiting for.

Answering the OPs question: A new Elder Scrolls single player game will 100% affect the online player numbers of ESO. So the devs will certainly think of something that connects the two games. Events that affect both games or even an achievement that has an affect on the other game. We will see.

TES VI wont even reach the drawing board until ESO is declining and no marketing trick can keep the numbers up

If they do it intelligently and tie one game to the other in a significant way (and I don't mean buy TES6 and get a free mount in ESO or vice-versa) it could be a win/win for them.

If, for example TES6 had some unique skill lines you could import into ESO or some form of cross-play where you could export your ESO character into TES6 or any other equally substantial tie-in they could dream up.

ESO is a far better return on investment than a traditional TES game

I'm glad bethesda didn't develop it then.

ZOS has to be terrified of TES6. I can't imagine I'd touch ESO for months, maybe even a full year. And who knows if I'd even bother at that point.

You should do some research on how Zenimax (not ZoS) relates to ZoS, Bethesda, and the TES IP.

Um, ZOS works very closely with Bethesda Game Studios. They would know in advance if any development was being done on TES VI and would probably end up working to make it consistent with ESO.

They have literally zero reason to be terrified.

You'll see the same impact Fallout 4 had when it was released: a mass, but temporary, exodus of players.

I look at this way too. What happened with Fallout 4 will probably happen with TES6, although I suspect the exodus would be amplified since there are ESO players that don't play the Fallout series. I think ESO would survive despite that, and maybe even have some sort of tie-in to TES6 to keep players logging in, like crossover mounts, outfits, etc.

As others have said though, I'm not sure we will be seeing it any time soon. I think a bigger threat to ESO's population would be ZOS releasing another Bethesda IP-based MMORPG like "Fallout Online" or something similar.
