How TES6 will affect ESO population

If rumors are true, we are soon anticipating the sixth instalment of the TES epic saga. It will be inevitably on market shelves no matter what ESO community thinks. The thing is the release of TES6 will dramatically affect the outflow of ESO players from the game to gain new experience in TES6. The ESO release was a breath of fresh air for all TES community, notwithstanding the fact that Skyrim is still in vogue amongst tons of gamers. It was a great marketing strategy to release ESO in several years after Skyrim when TES5 worls has already been explored by all for multiple times, and I'm no exception. New world, new experience, and the thing all players have been dreaming of for ages - to be drowned in TES world with all other travellers and wanderers, that's why the game is so popular. But what should the game ancicipate with the TES6 release? Will ESO community leave the project for trying TES6? Of course, all would like to try this one. But DAMN, how to combine all these two games?)

This. Last year they said they haven't even started working on it. We're doomed to re-releases of Skyrim until Todd Howard finally dies at the age of 225.

Pretty sure lots of us started anticipating TES 6 roughly about the time we finished Skyrim (I say "finished" but I still keep booting it up and making new characters.)

I know I'm going to take a break from ESO when it finally does come out.

Yeah. There have been unsubstantiated rumours and speculation nearly since Skyrim. As far as I know, we have heard no word of anything official in the pipes yet.

I doubt it will be announced this year, earliest I think is 2019. Anyways, I don't think it will overtly hurt the player population. Players might spend less time on ESO as they explore/experience TES6, but I don't think it will cause players to disappear entirely.

So it won't affect ESO in terms of players leaving, at worst players will take a small break to fully dive into TES6 and then come back. Or, as I plan to do, play them both at the same time.

It isn't happening, but even if it was a lot of people are currently playing Skyrim and ESO. They're more likely to switch to TES 6 from Skyrim than from ESO. In any event, most people are more than capable of playing more than one game at a time.

The time to begin to get serious about TES 6 is when it has a name!

When Elder Scrolls VI is released, all the Elder Scrolls fans will take a break from ESO. That might mean they'll just log in for writs, maybe for a trial run, or it could be for a long time, until ES6 gets a bit boring, everything's been discovered and done, mods made and completed... The MMO people will continue playing until they find a new MMO to play. The population will definitely drop though.

You'll see the same impact Fallout 4 had when it was released: a mass, but temporary, exodus of players.

Then they'll start trickling in, one by one, then demanding the developers implement features of the game into ESO.

    Can't wait. /sarcasm

MMOs and singleplayer games don't really compete like you want to believe they do. So it probably isn't even slightly a concern to ZOS, especially not one that's from the same IP.

FFXIV was entirely unaffected by FFXV's release.

TES6 won't be released until 2022 at the earliest. Bethesda aren't idiots, they know it would canabalize ESO userbase.

For myself, I will quit ESO before TES6 comes out given the current game direction. However if I am still playing, then I'd take at least a years break.

Honestly it won't effect it much.

You have 2 groups of people really. Those that enjoy single player RPG and those that want an MMO. Sure there are some crossover players, but they will go back and forth then come back to ESO once they feel they have played through ESO 6 enough.

most people seem to expect a next TES installment between 2020 and 22... i think that sounds realistic they will probably time it around the decline of ESO and then try to push it up with it...for example having a dlc that ties the story over to TES 6 and when you play it you get special goodies for TES 6 and vice-verca....but im sure they are timing it depending on how ESO is going.. i mean i will most definatly switch to TES 6 for 500 hours after it releases...

and there seems to be at least 1 probably 2 other IP's coming before TES 6 so 20-22 seems realistic... the next IP - rumor has it - will be revealed at this years E3

What does "soon" means to you? Are you some sort of celestial, cosmic or otherwise millenial being so year are just like blinking for you?

On topic, I will surely buy and play TES6, but i will still play ESO because of co-op with friends and gf.

Sadly, I suspect traditional TES will get Half-Life 3'd. ESO is a far better return on investment than a traditional TES game, much like Steam and TF2 microtransactions were better ROI for Valve, it just didn't make sense as a business for them to keep making Half-Life. Zeni is more likely to produce an ESO 2 at this point.

    I hope I'm wrong.

There is a big difference, of course, between a game's population declining and its revenue declining. When another game attracts people's attention for a while it doesn't mean that they cancel their subscription or never log into the first game, it just means that they play it less. I still have two ESO subscriptions running, for example, despite the fact that I'm playing less at the moment because I'm finally into Dragon Age: Inquisition. I'm sure ZOS haven't even noticed!

I guess it’s dependemt on how you choose to play the game. I play for the social aspect and veteran content to post up in the leaderboards. Cant really get that out of a single player game.

I’ve noticed that a lot of people that choose to go the solo route in ESO don’t stick around very long anyways because of the group content and others breaking “MUH IMMERSIONZ!”

Not gonna lie, I’m a diehard elder scrolls fan, and will more than likely play and enjoy it but ESO will never stop being my number 1 boo thang.

I would like to see them create entire maps that are solo instances (think of it like a giant map sized house). In this map, players can do all the same things, but the respawn rates of NPCs and trash mobs can be customized. The map would also have the standard assortment of crafting nodes and you can truly customize your house in this solo instance. There would not be item limits like there is now.

That's what I want. No need to create a new game.
