I definately save and stack mine up until i need either the bank/bag space or the mats. But the most ive ever spent completing including refining is around 3.5 hours with addons.

And i hate it.

9 hours is a massive mission.

Technically it was 9 or so minutes shy of 10 hours if you include the refining process.I did however enjoy the exploring the woah boy did I not expect it would take this long... at first I was like hey I am still at it 2 hours later but then it kept going on and on and I was literally hellbent on trying to get them thinned out and I did need the resources. Also hey I also noticed that resource nodes have increased in drop rates after event. Somewhere around 300% perfect time to go out and resource farm various materials.

Note, Multicraft can help with this, que the material, tell it to do 500 and let it go. You can type in the number. I recently did 25,000 mats using this method.

Ditto! Sure, it can take a while to complete surveys, but there’s no need to clear them all in one go. I usually wait until I have multiple surveys for one particular zone, then knock them out as fast as possible after doing my writs. Next time I’m logged in, I focus on a different zone.

When you delete surveys, you’re basically throwing gold away! I can’t emphasize this enough: you generate literally thousands of mats with surveys. Before I started doing surveys, I always had to buy a ton of mats any time I needed to craft new gear. Nowadays, it’s rare for me to have less than 2k of each max tier crafting mat in my crafting bag. The rest, I sell.

It doesn't help that I get a new one with just about every writ. Got so many to do. I gave them to one of my new characters so they could discover the zone as they hunt and get more exp

Even with add-ons, I spend 1-2 hours per week doing surveys. I always did them weekly specifically so they didn't build up. But with back to back events I was doing on multiple characters daily, I haven't done surveys in well over a month. I probably have a good 10-12 hours of farming ahead of me to clear them out.

I would spend a lot of skill points, or crowns, for a hireling that would do these for me.

I usually do all my surveys/maps at once when I get around 50. Takes me a good hour, maybe. But I'm also very much a stickler about my bank/inventory slots.

In fairness, I also use a pair of add-ons which take all the guess work out of surveying and treasure hunting.

"Survey the World" adds an indicator next to a zone's name ( */.<Zone Name> ) when you have a treasure map or survey for that zone in your inventory.

Lost Treasures marks the location of your surveys/maps on your world map with a big unmistakable red X

Those two add-ons make the process a breeze. Literally takes all the thinking out of it and I can just get it done and get on to actually playing the game.

And as many have suggested, yes-- it's a wonderful way to stock your craft bag. I am debating on starting to do them on high level characters w/0 crafting skills as a way to build up my stock of lower tier furs. I think it's justifiable since the upgrade mats often come from refining anyway.

I didn't count them but I had a ton that I've been saving up for a few months and did right after the anniversary event ended. Took me a good 8+ hours. Totally worth it, I have so many crafting mats now! I may wait longer next time and save up more before I collect them. It's much easier to complete them when you have multiple of the same survey, you just walk a short distance away and resources respawn when you go back.

I run mostly Tier 1 Writs so doing the surveys on a max rank character with no material passives gives me both Tier 1 and Top Tier Mats. This way I can make the gear I need and do the writs.

Oh, and having recently refined about 25,000 mats (it was more TBH) I can tell you that your chances to get Gold Tempers is the same whether your refining Jute or Ancestor Silk. So, all mats are a good source of Gold Tempers

There's no way you should delete surveys - they're easy mats and tempers.

I used the last of my cake XP to clear out a lot of master writs I hadn't bothered with - including a gold blacksmith and clothier writ and I was very motivated to try and get my gold tempers back.

I had about 30+ surveys banked so I loaded up the Lost Treasure add on and farmed them all.

I always try to grab any other ore/cloth/wood nodes in the base game along the way because aetherial.

A couple hours of later I had all my gold tempers back plus a few extras

I do them as soon as I get them, because I'm not a coward.

I save them to do in bulk, for when I have ESO+. I'd never do a bunch of surveys without craft bag.
