Strife is sorta useless now

Just when I thought ZoS was on the track to making smart balance choices they make another mistake. Week 2 of the PTS and strife remains WAY too expensive for what it offers you.

Also cementing the DK tank meta cuz embers only costs like 1.5k (1.3k with light armor passives) now nightblade looses their cheap heal/damage dealer. But hey thanks for fixing the animation issues which is by far a L2P problem because after a bit of practice it's easy to get used too

Looks like I'm playing Melee MagBlade in Cyrodiil full time now. Thanks ZoS

Short answer is DKs likely won't be seeing a ton of changes before we go live; this class is still quite powerful (as it should be being a tank), even after some of the adjustments we've made to other classes and abilities.

DK IS NOT JUST A TANK CLASS. #PLAYTHEWAYYOUWANT

It isn't useless, but it isn't as good as Force Pulse or Crushing Shock for DPS, so with the cost being the same most will abandon it.

They've shown they're listening to Nightblades concerned about this change as they even changed it on a bug-fix week rather than wait until the balance update.

I wouldn't fully panic just yet.

Strife does about double the initial damage of Burning Embers and unlike Burning Embers which is a DoT it can't just be cleansed negating the damage.

I just don't understand the point. Previously, magblades felt lightweight and dynamic - you didn't have to slow down as much with heavy attacks and sustain struggles compared to other classes. It was fun and gave NBs a unique flavor. I would consider the previous cost Strife to be a magblade-defining ability.

Now Force Pulse and Strife cost the same, so why would anyone use Strife instead of the objectively better Force Pulse (which isn't even a class ability)? Alright, so you lose out on a little bit of extra healing, whoop-dee-doo unless you're in solo content or a bad group. I get it that you can tweak your setup to still use Strife like you used to (kinda), but why bother using it when Force Pulse is a better version that costs the same? Can anyone explain why they would still want to use Strife instead of Force Pulse now?

It's really getting old with this "community asks for a slight tweak, ZOS swings the nerf sledgehammer" business.

But it can be blocked making the heal about 300 every two seconds. Can also be reflected.

Embers is a melee DoT so it can't be reflected or absorbed lel

Tis true though. There is a reason I used the (non)word "Sorta" in the title. Due to every other skill in the game existing strife is SORTA useless

To be fair week 1 is usually a bug fix patch, so they may or may not be done with Strife. The fact that they acknowledge the animation problem implies that they're at least paying attention.

What problem? Working as intended! Weaving with strife is mostly a L2P problem and can be fixed with a bit of practice

You did noticed that they've increased the animation speed of Strife today, right? So it should work much better for weaving now.

Also, as Gina noted, this week was mostly for BUG FIXES, balance changes coming next week.

It's clearly not intended, as it wasn't the original behavior (I forget which patch it became bugged, but it was a while ago), and they just fixed it in a bug fix patch.

Also I'm guessing you have a very good ping and/or avoid prime time. You literally have to slow down weaving past the GCD when latency reaches a certain point in order to get light attacks to fire. No other instant damage skill has this behavior until the lag gets very bad.

As they should if they only value damage in their 28m ranged cast.

They did over nerf it a bit. I understand why they raised the cost, but once it moves from "yes slot this" past "should I slot this" to "not even bothering, I'll just run Force Pulse" they should see they made a mistake.

I guess you could weave it for the HoT uptime, but I don't see that as a big deal if you didn't have the bar room to just not run it at all now.
