No, because then you start howling when the time estimate expires.

This is precisely why Blizzard stopped giving ETAs on downtime.

Sometimes no estimation = "we don't know how long it will take" plain and simple.
John-bob might find the solution in 20 minutes, or Terri and Ralph might chug coffee for the next 4 hours and gaining grey hairs trying to fix whatever it is. Rest assured, at least they're working into the night and not saying "SORRY GUYS WE KNOCKED OFF AT 6! SEE YOU TOMORROW!"

Unfortunately, no matter what time of day a maintenance is performed, people will complain it was done at their prime playing time. There is no possible way for a megaserver or its developers to win in a situation like this. Most of us are used to these things. A lot of you I see still complain with the "NOOOOOOOoooooo!!!!" when a maintenance countdown starts, like your entire world just ended. I see you all complain every single day about how you wish the devs would fix this bug or that bug. I see you complain about the gold sellers and lag. Then when they try to fix it you come here and complain that how dare they fix it when you aren't ready for it. Make up your minds on what you want fixed. Actually don't. Your opinions don't really matter at this point. They are fixing it now and there is NOTHING you can do about it but continue to razz the devs for fixing what you complain about.
