5 seducer, 5 bloodthorn, 2 skoria or bloodspawn, 5 heavy 1 medium 1 light, double sword and board. Nice balanced setup

Good DPS sets for a DK: Silks of the sun, Burning Spellweave, Rattlecage, Spinners, Kags/julianos/shacklebreaker (crafted), and there are more.
Do you want nice flat damage and dont like buffing yourself? Rattlecage is great and saves you a skill spot. Do you want to manage a proc for more burst, BSW might be right. Do you want your damage from penetration? maybe spinners is best. Do you want somehting that is easy to craft? Kags, Julianos, or shacklebreaker are all nice. Shacklebreaker is very strong, its kind of a mix between damage and sustain.
Good Sustain sets. Seducer, Black Rose, Desert Rose, Lich, Shacklebreaker, Alteration mastery.
Again, how do you want to manage your sustain? A proc based set like lich is very strong, but it makes planning your gear a little tricky. Seducer is great, especially considering it is craftable which makes weapons a none issue. Both of the roses are strong (not as much as they used to be), but they are a little more situational.
Monster sets: There are many to chose from. Want some burst? Skoria. Want to apply steady pressure? Grothdar. Want Ulti gain and resources? Bloodspawn. Want to stack mitigation? Pirate skeleton.
I would look to see what sets you can most easily combine from these lists and then simply start playing. Figure out where your weaknesses are and adjust accordingly. I would error non the side of being a little tanky at the start. Then you can look to add more damage.
My DK usually sits in Seducer, Bloodspawn, and Rattlecage. My damage is definitley not capped, but I can sustain for days. For dueling/small man, I will often switch to Seducer BSW and Skoria, where I want a little more burst to finish people off. If I am playing in a larger group, then I will often go 5 light and stack even more damage while using at least one destro staff.
I have a shacklebreaker set crafted on my mag sorc but it's light, I want to run 5 heavy and 2 light with sword and shield I don't want light, I feel like it would be a waste of resources to craft another shacklebreaker set so in you opinion what 2 sustain and damage sets go well to have great dps and somewhat survivable in 1vx situations I like to solo pvp but I will join a random group here and there never with full group of friends I will be most likely going with skoria @Oreyn_Bearclaw

Need that light for extra damage. Magicka DKS already do not have an execute or burst like some classes. I run light shackle breaker. I have a heavy set of it as well.
If you want to play a tanky mDK, you certainly dont want to run 5 light. Not saying you cant, but it doesnt seem to be the playstyle that OP is after. I absolutely will go 5 light if I know I have good support, but for open world, i am not a fan of 5 light on a mDK.

Actually, mDK has no viable defense when outnumbered besides block. This means that when you're fighting 4 people you're blocking big hits or you're dying.
Now, since you don't feel a huge difference in armor mitigation while blocking and since it's relatively easy to hit 25k resists in light anyway you're eliminating a lot of the extra tackiness added by heavy. Now factor in that light armor gives you incredible magika sustain and big damage and the only logic for making a build that you plan to kill someone with is light.
Particularly in the face of the sharpened nerf, the light armor penetration passive is very strong relative to other sources of penetration and comes with a low opportunity cost.

If you just want the heavy look then run heavy chest and legs. You can only run 5/2 and lose out on 2% max stats from undaunted, but that won't make or break your build and the extra resists on the big pieces actually helps bring your resists up to acceptable levels. I'm not saying heavy isn't viable, I'm just saying that you can replace the heavy armor passives more easily and efficiently than you can replace the light ones. Its for this reason that I advocate running light armor on ALL magika builds that you're expecting to kill people with.
If you're absolutely stuck on heavy I'd probably run 5 lich (jewels+back bar) 5 Alchemist(body) 2 skoria and willpower SnB front bar. Its far from ideal, but that's the only way I can see you getting enough burst and sustain in heavy. You'll need to time your burst with a potion to kill people that aren't potatoes though.
A quick look through the passives and you'll notice how strong the light armor ones are compared to the heavy armor passives.
