That’s my concern as well. Between the Two-Handed change opening up more set combinations, jewelry crafting opening up more potent set combinations, and new sets coming with the update this has the potential to breed some really stupid builds. And we already have a lot of really absurd builds right now.
Also, where are the Sorc buffs? There is a bit confusion if Hardened Ward has been nerfed or not, the damage increase on Liquid Lightning is strong in PvE but meh for PvP, and they still didn’t address the weak spots.
Idk about sorcs, I hear derra is excited about the changes, and when he is excited about something you know it’s gonna be good.
Not sure if i´m excited. It´s not bad for sorcs though.
We will have to see how it plays out with the buff to cage + lightattacks mostly. Cage always dealing dmg is definetly big - even if people might argue it´s only 7 to 8k tooltip - coupled with minor force being accessible on magica builds and new gearing (set) options i could see some threat coming back to sorc burst.
Cage change sounds pretty neat, wonder how it will fare against reach builds though, seeing how the latter offers more bar space.

reach comes with a real tradeoff now - not being able to utilize 2 permanent 5p sets. It restricts you to lich / riposte etc backbar only sets. If we see an adjustment to those aswell (especially riposte would be desireable imo) it might be interesting.
In general i think high dmg builds with cage are preferable to reach for 1v1 situations with guaranteed dmg on cage.
Magblade got nerfed somewhat for open combat. Stamblade we have to wait. Personally i think loosing protection is big for stamblade.
For the rest see edited original post.

Runecage buff is a good thing in my opinion because sorc players don't get rekt if they don't have a master staff anymore. I'm a bit worried about Runecage because it enables burst which is not avoidable and this has always been a bad thing in my opinion. But overall I'm glad that Runecage gets some love.

To be completely honest, I don’t see medium stamblades being able to survive a meteor combo if that buff goes through. Meteor + execute + cage + frags all going out at the same time

the combo does not kill stamblades now. timing it is pretty hard due to cage delay and requires the "right" distance to the target otherwise frags will get dodged /blocked before cage langs or after breakfree.
with stamblades getting the same new gear options i don´t see anything preventing them from getting either extra HP or mitigation to avoid getting rekt by this.
Edit: I think willpower frontbar is some very niche setup. Asylum or master should overall outperform it.

Hell you will even be able to do 2 sets and a 2p frontbar now + monster set, that might be crazy on msorc. Have 2p willpower frontbar will give hardened (assuming it’s on frontbar) a dope boost. This is probably one of the best patches for sorcs, maybe not because they got crazy buffed but they can potentially finally get out of this gear pigeonhole they’ve been put i.

The key phrase is “relative to other classes”. The 5/5/2 change is universal, and the other classes get buffs too by the look of it (minus magWarden).

The shadow image buff is what's huge.
its nice but taking 8% more dmg is also huge - it will make nb easier to play for inexperienced players so
Classic stuff. A minor protection for a mere 2" that hardly anyone was using in PvP was "huge". While being able to cast shadow image behind LOS, without alerting your presence, and then returning to it if your gank fails is merely "nice".
I wonder if shadow image will pull you out of cloak though. If it does then this change is “nice”. If it doesn’t, it’s “great”. It’s not a playstyle altering or gameplay changing buff though. Guess the bar must have been set really low for people to be calling this a “huge” buff.
I'd actually argue that people who can't see the potential use of this and are only classifying this as "nice" are lacking imagination. Let's talk about this if/after it goes live.
As for MagBlade, Funnel cost is the only meaningful nerf. Everyone uses Refreshing Path for PvP anyway. Most other changes affect almost entirely PvE. DPS was nerfed while tanking potential was increased.
Oh I can imagine how this is a good buff, but not anything fantastic. It’s simply a nice change. It’s going to be helpful, sure, but it’s not like I was running around in cyro going like “oh jolly I sure wish my shade wouldn’t need a target right now”. I put it down when near enemies anyway. If I need imagination to see how good this buff is I don’t know how it can be considered a yuuuuuge buff.
This doesn’t change how we’re basically forced into 2h builds, how ALL we have is dodgeable, reflectable and how our damage outside incap + merciless is mediocre (which isn’t even a thing ever since they removed cast time, since now anyone with half a brain can dodge the bow after incap).
But yeah, never look a gift horse in the mouth. At least they didn’t gut the class like the did with stamdk in morrowind LUL
I think this is a bit of an over reaction. Stamblade and Magblade still have solid pressure outside of Incap + Merciless. Maybe not as much as MagDKs or Templars but night blade pressure shouldn't be on par with them in the first place.
Sure, stamblades do have plenty of pressure. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for the changes. They could probably have nerfed us even more, maybe done something to incap. I know for a fact that I won’t be maining magblade next patch though.
I'd wait to say such things, maybe we see some new sets which synergise well or more changes we haven't seen yet.
I'll announce one nerf that will be coming with SS and that hasn't been revealed yet: Lotus Fan snare reduced to 2-4 seconds
Yeah sets will change up a lot of things. This update is probably the most important update this game has had since 1 Tamriel.
Please don't remind me of the begin of the dark ages
I was talking more about how the game has changed during that patchlike the set drops, the fact that the map of Tamriel got opened for all, etc. I am absurdly hyped for the 2h set bonus buff, for example. And jewelry crafting... oh boyyy
Am i the only one who has this meh atitude to all the new changes and are more concerned that they will give us some really op builds?

Cage change sounds pretty neat, wonder how it will fare against reach builds though, seeing how the latter offers more bar space.

the combo does not kill stamblades now. timing it is pretty hard due to cage delay and requires the "right" distance to the target otherwise frags will get dodged /blocked before cage langs or after breakfree.
with stamblades getting the same new gear options i don´t see anything preventing them from getting either extra HP or mitigation to avoid getting rekt by this.
Edit: I think willpower frontbar is some very niche setup. Asylum or master should overall outperform it.

Don't forget about the bloodthirsty Jewellery trait. Curse+Frag+Meteor+Rune Cage+ what is basically an Empowered Fury and an Empowered LA instantly hitting all at once. I really think MagSorc burst potential is going to be where it was pre-Frag nerf with all these changes as bloodthirsty benefits their burst the most out of all classes.

Meteor + execute + cage + frags all going out at the same time
Yeah, I'm afraid that @Derra will "humiliate" me nowBut on the bright side I have a sorc by myself
the combo does not kill stamblades now. timing it is pretty hard due to cage delay and requires the "right" distance to the target otherwise frags will get dodged /blocked before cage langs or after breakfree.
with stamblades getting the same new gear options i don´t see anything preventing them from getting either extra HP or mitigation to avoid getting rekt by this.
I don´t think bloodthirsty will be desireable as pvp sorc to be honest. Sorc is the only class relying 100% on only statpool to gain defense by design.
Reducing statpool to gain execute potential seems like playing oneself - atleast on paper.
Maybe we´ll be able to slip 1 bs in - but i wouldn´t count on it as my gutfeeling is infused costreduction will outperform that by far for pvp.
