How to beat the butcher?

You can do it on foot with no sneaking and no wall hugging at all... Why does everyone make such a big deal out of this? I'm on my phone atm otherwise I'd just draw the path I take. Never been caught.

I do it on a horse because it works. I normally ride when I am going distances. If figure I am going to be mounting up anyway, so might as well do it after grabbing the pig.

Both work. Horse, or running. It's not really a matter of speed. It's a matter of staying out of her detection radius.

This is the route I take. Grab the pig. Stay on the path. Assuming you have no bounty the guards will not bother you at all. Take the east/left path and up the stairs. The only spot where the butcher will appear on this side is when she comes out of the inn, marked as B on the map. So to avoid her as soon as you come up the stairs cling to the right side of the path. You can move between a rock and the fighters guild tent (T) there, or you can move through the tent or even behind the tent. Matters not, she shouldn't see you. I usually just ride right through the tent anyway. From there on it's straight to the city gate and it's done.

My path is to veer hard left (east) at T/B on that map, follow along inside the wall, hop over the low walls on the way to the south gate out, and head on out through there. I never see nor hear the Butcher going that way. I'm always mounted for it but some of my mounts are at 6% speed so might as well just run, ha.

The way in the image is direct. It easily avoids the butcher. However, if you have a bounty, there is a guard on the stairs, one wandering the plaza, and then on the bridge outside of town. If I have a bounty, I find that other players often distract the guards long enough to get past them.

I'm not sure if they changed that, but last year getting anywhere outside of the designated quest area got the pig 'lost', so creeping out behind the buildings didn't much work. I think I tried it a couple of times back then and it never worked. If you can give the path a wider berth now without losing the pig, that's great then.

You don't need a horse or to run overly fast ... Normal sprint ... Here's the route

From the point you pick up the pig turn back to face the town ... Head to the left set of stairs ... As you stove at top of stairs there is a tent turn right n keep the tent on your left ... Take a straight line across the grass to the exit if the town, now it's a straight shot back to the jesters.

Makes sure you have a stam pot ready to pop at the tent you will hear the butcher soon as you hear you hit sprint and you should clear it you can't pop potion while sprinting so slow as you near top of the stairs

    Good luck

I also hugged the left wall but I made a bunch of invisibility/speed boost potions and would just trot along for 15 seconds then stealth and hide until I could use another one since my sorcerer has no stealth perks that just seemed easy.

Some else said you can run past the jesters to the wayshrine a message pops that princess has stopped when you see the message go back to jester and instead of turning in you get the quest again then you talk again and turn in ... Obviously a glitch not sure if you get the achievement

Sneak, the ONLY time I even learned the Butcher existed was the day I actually payed off my Apples bounty. There are only like 4 guards to worry about, and they are easily avoided.
Now I am a vampire on all but one character, but still. Pop those rapids go.

You don't have to sneak to do this quest. It's totally doable without sneaking. Just mount, then click on the pig while mounted, then run away immediately. Go left. Go around the backside of the buildings when you can.

I just grab the pig, hop on my mount, and haul ass through the center of town. I got the achievement on 8 characters in a row doing that.

I got it last year on every character this way, andd am now up to 15 this year. I didn't even realize you could get "caught" doing it til I read that you could on the forums. Rapids right up the left stairs, straight through all the NPCs and vendors on the most direct route to the exit of the city walls. Zoom.

I am confused how people have problems with this. I did it 15 times and this was the fasters part of the 3. I never got caught. I actually did it like 5 times until i realized theres someone chasing me after feeding the princess.

    1. Steal apple, dont bother sneaking.
    2. Find guard and pay fine. You wont lose the apple.
    3. Ride to the princess, you dont have to dismount to feed it.
    4. Ride back, go eastside, keep sprinting.

I take the left wall route behind the Ebon flask and neighbouring buildings, it works just fine. I don't even bother dismounting - click on the pig, turn round and gallop off on the route back.

Use your mount. Go up the left side (facing the stairs) then at the top of stairs, sharp left behind the buildings and carry on around the wall to the main entrance and get your achievement when you reach the quest giver, easy peasy.

You don't need to sneak, and all you have to do is look for the festival celebrating NPCs dressed in purple. As long as you go where they are, you will not get caught (I'm assuming the lore reason is they distract the Butcher for you). So yeah, keep left, keep looking for purple clothing, sprint on your horse with rapids.
