Basically this is the answer to the question. This is a chapter because people have doubts but keep paying and ZOS marketing speciallists know well the crowd attitudes.

@Seraphayel Twas an clear insight from my side. We both all know well and I am not "ZoS marketer". I believe you owe me an apology. Sincere constructive opinion does not make one " ZoS Marketer." I would not call it a typical marketing. The Summerest Chapter shall be the greatest Chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online and we shall embrace it with love. Luckily for me I do not have the negative outlook as you do nor I lash our or complain bitterly. You indeed have little gratitude for ZoS and zero respect for me.

What concerns me the most, is that Summerset is the first full province added to ESO after the game's release and well, it's more complex than Skyrim would be. How can we expect something like Summerset to be what it should be, when they worked on it for 1 year or so. It'll probably be rushed and most of the isle will be locked.

No question, seeing Summerset is my biggest dream. But I think it would have been a better candidate for TES 6 and had better been done properly, the way it should be.

At the moment it is hard to judge how much content there will be. The main storyline could be a very long one and taking you to many places. There could be hundreds of side quests and other activities. It is a very PvE focused chapter I think. The game doesn't have to revolve around PvP and leaderboards. I'm quite excited to see it and pay the price tag.

You're not happy with the product? Don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you.

You're not happy some features are behind a paywall? Don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you.

You're not happy with the direction the game is going in? Don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you.

It's funny how important it is to so many to try to find something about Chapters to make them worth more than what the pre-chapter DLCs used to provide (Orsinium anyone?)

The sooner you accept that all that happened last year is that ZOS carved out 1 of the quarterly updates, dressed it in its Sunday best, called it a chapter and made it so it isn't included with ESO+ or purchasable with crown, the happier you'll be.

It was a 25% per year increase to the cost of ESO+. Anything else is just marketing spin.

You can object to the 25% increase or make peace with it (I have) and move on but trying to define Morrowind or Summerset's chapterness is a silly thing to do.

That's hardly an attitude ZOS would take when deciding on whether or not to class this content as a chapter or a DLC. And I don't think anybody here, myself included, needs any advice from you on whether to buy it or not. We can make our own mind up thanks.

Some people think the content is lacking when compared to Morrowind. And they want to voice that opinion. Saying "Don't buy it then" is just like saying "Don't like it? TOUGH. Move along" IMO. Not conducive to a successful product.

I highly suspect that the effort to do Orsinium drove them towards the chapter concept. Clearly Orsinium would be a chapter under the new model. They have added ESO+ benefits though to offset for the smaller and fewer DLC releases.

True enough and, as I said, I've made peace with it but I do always appreciate straight-forward, honest messaging from companies and what we got last year with Morrowind was a deceptive sales job.

Well I don't feel they were deceptive because they told us of the change in January which gave people advance notice of the change.

But, I do agree that they could have improved the messaging last year.

The part about not being purchasable with crowns nor included with ESO+ was not highlighted as it should have been and you had to actually wade through Matt's companion article a few days later to see that Morrowind was not a "one of" exception but a permanent change to the yearly business model going forward.

Heck there are still people confused to this day about how it works because it is not explicit enough.

To be fair, there's nothing that would've stopped ZOS postponing the transmutation and outfit system and make them chapter-exclusive. That would've bolstered Summerset's value by quite a bit.

It's also unlikely that everyone but the zone team sit on their hands all day, so we'll likely see more features later this year. For whatever reason, they just decided not to fill this chapter with it.

I really wish ZOS would step up their game. ESO is pretty good but needs a lot more devotion from ZOS to thrive and be great (again).

Yes. I don't know if the Crown Crates have finally caused the studio to drift away from content, or whether they have some other project they are working on, but I agree. This is more lack-luster than I was expecting. Aside from the larger zone, this Chapter demonstrates a downhill slide for the studio.

Edit: Opinion is pending details that may have been omitted in the launch material.

It's a chapter when Zen wants more money.. but, I'm ok to drop 9 or 10 bucks on it when it does get to that discount, similarly as when Morrowind did.

Seems like a regular DLC to me, not much game changers. Big zone, 12man trial jewelry crafting and a new guild with its own abilities. Doesnt seem to justify the big price tag. 59.99 - 89.99.

Jewelry crafting...I think that's their big move. Something people reeeeeaaalllly want. I don't know how many people care that much about getting a few extra hours of questing because the zone is bigger. You only quest once. Trials are always cool, but only for PVEers. Not sure about the new skill line, too early to tell. At first people were underwhelmed by the Warden, and then the stam Warden became the most OP PVP class in the game. So we will see.

    It's 29.99 as a digital upgrade...

    Just saying.

But, it really will depend on how much content there really is in the land mass.

Of course the map is bigger than Morrowind. Morrowind has a big unexplorable volcano in the center of the map. And there is not really much going on in the northern part of the map either. Just because they have more map space to add to the Horse Riding simulator does not make it a selling point ZOS.

There are other things to worry about... Like should I make a new High Elf mag sorc and level it before Summerset comes out and play the storey that way OR should I use my main Breton healer...

PS I already pre-ordered my collector's edition so this is not really a nock on the game just an obvious observation.
