Seems you could make a decent amount of money off of a direct sale. For example, I, and I'm sure plenty more, won't buy 1 crate trying to get that mount. But I'd spend crowns on the mount if in crown store.
The thing is you might not buy one crate to get it, but some people will buy 500. You're not the target here, they don't really care what you would or wouldn't buy. They can make thousands more off of whales than they ever could with direct sales.1 -

✭✭✭✭✭The artwork for the Shadow Rider Senche looks cool, but I haven't seen one in-game yet. Even if it's awesome I don't think it's worth playing ZOS' cash-grab.
I got the Adamant Dwarven Horse from some free crates and I resent that I can't use it without people asking me how they could get it themselves. These rare, crate-only mounts are BS this way. Most people aren't going to get as lucky as me, so they'd have to buy a lot of crates and probably still not get one of the rare mounts, and anyone who has one is basically advertising for the crown crates whenever they use it.
I could finger wag and shame people for wanting these rare mounts, but I don't think it's bad for people to want options to enjoy the game as they like. It's ZOS' fault for making it such am exploitive cash-grab to get some of these things and for making people impulsively throw away money trying to get them. This is exactly what they want.

Nihility42✭✭✭✭I am really not sure why people buy ANY crown crates. Are the 20 mounts and 100 pets you already have not enough? Its baffling, pets following you in-game is pretty lame(The only place I use my pets is housing) and one mount is much like another. I can see the appeal of costumes...after all, you are looking at your toon the entire time you are playing...but as for the rest of the cosmetics...why would you spend real money on them when that money could instead buy you DLC or actual useful things like character slots?
People just like different things. I personally wouldn't have the slightest use for DLC or character slots. I subscribe to ESO+ and I only have two characters I ever play with. I do enjoy making my characters look spiffy though, so I'm much more interested in mounts and the like.0 -

✭✭I saw someone in rawl who said he opened 15 crates and got it and didn't even know radiant mounts were a thing
Oddly enough the vast majority of players who i find with radiant mounts are lower cps or players who got it in the free crates, etc.. Rarely do i come across someone who tells me the kept buying crates til they got a radiant reward. Actually i dont think i ever have tbh..
That mount is so cool. Hell even the storm horse one is. Like above any other mounts ive ever seen in game. Sadly Even though i have spent plenty of money on each crown crate season, not particularly looking for anything just to get some of the cool stuff, i will most likely never see an radiant apex reward. Ive probably opened roughly 40+ crates each season and only once did i even get an apex mount, the storm atro horse but i really wanted the senche
. Every other time i had to buy one mount from each season (except those nasty ones last season). Scratch that, twice counting this season, i got the wolf but im already 20 crates in hunting for a radiant 
.
Surprisingly on the day i started my PC account, since im from xbox, i bought a 4 crate pack. Got the storm atro senche on the 2nd crate. Never bought them on PC again. Now if i was to throw my tin foil hat on i might say that it seems like they dont give very many good drops to players who they know will spend decent money on the game. Like maybe they know some of us are willing to keep buying them til we get a mount, or maybe we are a poor *** hunting a radiant apex mount

Point is, rare mounts in crates are hot items, I am just hoping in a few months or some time this year, They add it to the Crown store.
We arent asking them to hand over the mount for free. We want to buy it instead of gambling.
If they put it on sale, would you pay $300 for a stupid clump of nice looking pixels? Because the guy above spent $294 and still did not get it.

lol exactly. Heres how the team over at zenimax online studios looks at things. Either deal with whatever we do or quit. Thats your 2 options. And ya many mmos are like this, but not to the extent that zos does.. Also many mmos die. Archeage was like this and archeage is on deaths doorstep. And screw the BS rng mounts, thats one of the smaller issues. Just a pattern of behavior tbh.0 -

ESO is a business. But they dont need to make 42000 Crowns off of 1 individual player to do so. This is exactly what a lot of the gaming community has been railing against for months now. Its exploitative mechanics that prey on players addictions. 24x 15x crown crate box @ ~$35.99 = ~$850 dollars. For that much money you could buy roughly 12 brand new video games.
All you are doing is skewing their analytics and making them trend upward and showing ARPDAU increasing. From a purely analytics standpoint, it would make sense to logically give us more crown crates with rarer rewards now.
