ESO Master Angler: Rare Baits

I'm just going to get straight to the point. I personally believe that the rarer fishing baits: Chub, Shad, Minnow and Fish Roe should have like a 10% higher chance of catching rare fish. There have been some blue fish, that I've tried to catch and in the end I went through 800-1200 bait just for 1 blue fish and took me 5-9 days to catch with a partner or not, when I could of been playing PvP/Trials/Questing with friends.

Leave the common baits: Worms, Guts, Crawlers, Insect Parts and Simple Bait the way it is.

Plus when I buy Worms, Guts, Crawlers or Insect Parts from Guild Traders, I've notice the price for Chub, Shad, Minnow or Fish Roe is the same price as if there is "NO" real value in having the rarer baits in the first place, as they do you no greater then the common baits.

It's not like you use these rarer baits for crafting rare Provision food/drinks, no real value. So why have rare baits in the game in the first place, if there's no real benefit in having them to begin with?

I would agree with this premise. What's more, I've always been surprised it wasn't like this in the first place. Honestly, it's just so obviously the right way to do it.

I love this part of the game but it really is for the TRULY DEDICATED. Because there is on way that I am spending 40 hours catching 10 fish. IF I am lucky. Sometimes if I see people in a spot, I will join in for a few casts and see if I get lucky. But I realized pretty quickly that this is a monumental task that I just don't care about. If the rare baits gave higher chance (it would have to be at least 15% or higher for me to even consider it) then I might get on board. But unless you want to grind out over 100 hours of fishing, I think you are wasting your time.

I agree with the 15% honestly, just wanted to see what others would say.

I disagree. The believe in the only reason you can catch bait from fishing is to make the loot table larger, thus making master angler an even longer process then it needs to be.

Yeah lets have rare baits in are loot table with no real benefit at all.

I missread the post at first, my bad. thought you were saying that they already do increase chance of rare fish. I'd prefer to have them removed from the loot table, but i also guess it would be fine if they made them increase rare fish chance.

I would be extremely curious to know how many hours people have put into getting the 'Master Angler' achievement. No judgment by any means, just curious.

It took me 5-6 days to catch Cambray Perch even with help. Which be 60 plus hours to catch the blue lake fish in Glenumbra, when I could of been questing or fighting other players.

Sorry typed the wrong fish, I needed to edit. The foul water and lake water are next to each other, that's how I made the mistake.

Yup. thats what I was afraid of. :o:o:o

I will defintiely never become a Master Angler. I learned after about 30 minutes of fishing that i was either going to commit right there or write it off completely and never worry about. I went with the latter. :D

Yep. Rewatched a couple of seasons of DS9 while doing my fishing. I may have botched a few casts because of this, but still, it made it a lot more fun.

Agree rare bait should be better to catch rare fish, on the broader use of fishing I only fish to get perfect roe, anything else is a bonus. I know it is SO boring but I tend to run ESO on my laptop while watching TV. I might miss a couple of bites but at least I don't get bored

The caught baits are there to dilute the loot pool. (Pun intended.)

Guess they are just to add more crap to the inventory management problems then. I thought they actually did increase chances. Of course, that shows exactly how much fishing I have been able to tolerate in this game.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

I play on my phone while i fish. You can tell by the sound when you have a bite. I only need to glance at the screen every now and then. Even then its kind of boring. I only do one or two nodes a day if i pass by them. Its sort of like they just threw fishing in there haphazardly to give you a way to get fish for provisioning.

I have had ideas for a suggestion for an overhaul to the fishing system in general. Rare bait being part of the thought process.

Fishing could be a great deal more interesting/rewarding than it is now. Once I get my thoughts in order I'll share them.

Its there. I got it yesterday, and freaked out because I got it and my inventory was full.

No one else was fishing with me, so I assume its just the usual awful RNG.

I think it be awesome if ZOS included fishing trophies that you could put on the wall of your house or some sort of display that would be unlocked once you've caught all the rare fish in a location.

I just stick whichever fish I want onto the wall (or usually above a fireplace). There's also a wood plaque I saw somewhere, that you can put up first and then stick your fish on it.

I also have many (so many I finally stopped) fish in my Humble Abode's courtyard on racks.

Same. The first time I did Master Angler, I didn't have Votan's Fisherman add-on. The 2nd time, now I do, and I can just read and listen for the sound. Its been great to reread some old books I loved.

Sound doesn't work for me but the way I position my monitor, that honking huge anchor fishing hook always gets my attention. Heh.

There's already quite a few "fish" that are housing items.

I would agree with this premise. What's more, I've always been surprised it wasn't like this in the first place. Honestly, it's just so obviously the right way to do it.

Catching the fish and the fillet are two separate functions. The RNG is handled differently for these two stages so the benefits need to be applied easily within the st mechanics.

If the advanced baits lowered the hook time so it allowed for a great number of catches in the same length of time, this would be an appropriate stage to apply. Further the bonus would only apply to the proper waters for the bait.

This keeps the system from having to keep track of which fish where caught with what bait. Now there should allows be a fillet achievement as a master butcher wastes less than a novice so keeping the roe intact more. It is Prefect Roe after all, not just the bait roe.
