Every time that I go to sign in and play, it takes a long time before anything happens. When something does happen it says "Error: An unknown error has occurred".

Do you have a different ISP in your college? I think it might be related to the issue discussed in this thread since I also had the same symptoms: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/61061/can-t-play-game-after-tutorial-in-the-prison/p1

Yes I'm pretty sure that the ISP is different at college then it is at home. Even then I was able to log on to different games at home and at school no problem. This is the only game there is an issue with. I was on for an hour earlier today with no issues. As soon as I got back to school the error popped up. I re-downloaded the client, then repaired it as well. No such luck. The game worked fine when I was on the beta at both college and home.

It would be great if they actually had someone here to give us some sort of update on this problem, instead of your basic run of the mill answers, because it's definitely not one person with this issue. I feel ripped off by this now,

I contacted support for this problem multiple times and I always get the same generic answer wherein I need to contact my ISP or check my computer if my firewall is blocking eso etc etc..

I dont think it is our isps fault at all since most of us are using different isps and still having the same problem.

But I guess other people isnt experiencing this as well since eso doesnt acknowledge it as their server's problem. So I am guessing only a portion of this game's population are experiencing this, though there are a lot of us, there are also a lot of players not experiencing this

I do hope the dev team look this up and try to help ua even though were minority

I am surprised that this has not been addressed. I know there are a few issues that are a bit more serious, but obviously there's an issue somewhere, be it too many people logging on at once or something more serious. If it's just stress, then I'm not too worried, but I want to know if I need to get something fixed.

    Just a quick update:

My uninstall/reinstall of the game did not fix the issue.

For folks asking about if 1 character works but others don't, in my case it affects all characters. I was first getting dumped out of character creation before I even had a character, so this isn't a zoning or fps issue.

Just for fun I uninstalled the VMware Player that I had installed and used for my work sometime back, just to make sure that my Network configuration stuff was cleaned out as much as possible, still no luck.

One new thing that I found was that just running "ipconfig /all" is enough to bring back my network connection (before I was doing a /release /renew with ipconfig).

I'm really curious about the way it's knocking out my network connection each time, it's almost like something is either getting spammed/overloaded or disabled in the NIC.

I'm setting up some counters for various network stats and going to see if anything useful shows up there.

Been playing for the last half hour flawlessly at the daggerfall starting area. Couldn't play for more than 2 minutes after ColdHarbour.
The difference is... I decided to connect through a strongvpn connection and all is good for now.
I suspect there is something about this game that some ISP's block, throttle or otherwise obstruct.

It would be great if a dev staff actually replies to this thread to shed some knowledge wether the company is already acknowledging this as a problem or will be ignoring this permanently so we can ask for refund while it is still early. I pre purchased digital deluxe for the 5 days head start and its been a day already and it seems they are just ignoring this problem

I think KrakhenKr is on to something. I think it's very probable that ISP's are blocking or throttling the game somehow. However, that would seem to be proven false by those who claim that this only happens on a single computer in their household.

Unfortunately giving ESO highest priority in QoS didn't help anything. In fact, it almost made it worse, but it was probably just a coincidence.

This isn't the only time it happens, but the most common times I get kicked are:

    1) Opening a chest
    2) Casting a spell/using my weapon
    3) Moving after standing still

However, I left my game 100% idle just as a test and I still get kicked with the unknown error after a bit.

This is NOT because the servers are stressed. If it were, more people would be having this issue. This has been around since beta for me while others claim it didn't happen in beta. Something is going on and we need to raise awareness, this problem isn't going away on its own.

Anyway its night time in their hq i think, so Im guessing devs are offline and still doenst have a clue that their server is going crazy.

Chill out and give them until tomorrow when they wake up and report for duty. Afaik bethesda isnt a 24 hour company and doenst have 24/7 support like other pay to play games.

I just hope that they atleast acknowledge this as a problem by tomorrow

The network counters I set up haven't shown anything unusual yet so I'm calling it a night for now. Going to sleep on the problem and hopefully I'll either have something new to try in the morning or maybe a solution will be found by then (not pinning my hopes on that too much though :p )

i never had this situation happen in beta. the difference between now and then is that i am now playing on a laptop instead of a desktop and had to authorize the laptop through their server with an e-mailed code.

    Hi guys,

First try to run the repair function.

If the issue persists after running a repair make sure that nothing is impairing your connectivity (For instance if you're using wireless, try a to connect via cable, make sure your firewall or your router are not blocking the game)

Ok, I repaired it. I let it through my firewall. I cannot play the game correctly. I am able to log in just fine. I am able to get to character screen in a timely manner. I hit play and it goes through everything and to the loading screen quickly. The loading screen takes a short/reasonable amount of time. I get into my character, and he will not respond to my key presses. I click the draw weapon. It takes about 15 seconds. After that almost nothing registers. If I let it sit for a very long time it will kick me out and say "an unknown error has occurred." Normally, I have to force quite it to get the server to respond. I can run around as much as I want, but group mates say my arrow does not move and npc's and abilities do not respond. I would just say this is server issues, but none of my guildmates/groupmates/maramate are having the same issue. I also am in university housing, but since it was not doing this from 5 am-1 pm this morning, I do not think the university internet/security is to blame (also, I am able to watch a hulu show, so the bandwidth is most likely not the direct problem). Please! I have exhausted every known solution that I have! someone respond with something useful.
(oh yes, I have also tried running as administrator and in compatibility mode.)

I am playing on the NA server and it is happening to me as well. It also occurred during beta.

I know for a fact that it is not my ISP as my boyfriend also plays and we are sitting side by side. He has no issues what so ever, and I am crashing every time I zone.

I am running on an ethernet connection, have disabled my firewall, I have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, everything...

I've disabled all my firewall and security apps and I still keep getting kicked out with an unknown error. I then made a ticket mentioning that I randomly got codes 200 and 201, and a bunch of other troubleshooting I did, and the response told me to just wait. I've been waiting so long that I took several naps in between play attempts.

Same here. Disconnected every 1/2 hour max. In betas and now live. I am running via cable not wireless, and have added antivirus exceptions. Still happens constantly. Fun game but I haven't played it since a few hours after launch as every time I get going I get booted. Hopefully they balance this all out.

Just sitting around not able to play. Hours of troubleshooting have not yielded any results. Things I've tried: disabled firewall and all pc security, added ESO lancher and ESO.exe to trusted items in security software and windows firewall, opened ports in router, power cycled all hardware, tried different file locations and reinstalling application, checked for driver updates, messed with sound bitrate playback.

I still load into a "truman show" world that I get kicked out of after an unknown error occurs.

Hello, the unknown error/login problems vanished after i changed my net connection's APN to static, in other words made the dynamic IP to static IP or changed NAT from type 3 to type 1. I tried and changed back to dynamic IP and the login was a pain again and loading screen to another area turned to unknown error.
  • Cornbat

To change to static IP ask your ISP to do that.

Well, considering the fact that I actually switched ISP between the time I played in the beta and the time the game went live, I'd say it's not the ISP :/

I went from ADSL in one ISP company (largest one in my country), to a fiber in another ISP company (very small one) and I still got the same problems in both the beta and the live version.

I highly doubt it's the ISP.
  • OddballEasyEight
If it's related to static vs dynamic IP they really need to fix that since having a static IP will cost me more money each month with my ISP.

Optus in Australia is having problems as well.

ESO doesn't have the bandwidth it's quite obvious.
the lag is people able to get just enough data passed but not enough to stay in the game.

they have a failed broken launch.

I wonder if they will say it's been a broken launch or say it's been 100% smooth.

I don't think the mods are replying much because it seems they are all non english speaking people seeing as german seems to be the main language on here.

And the forum clean up seems to be delete posts all over the place

I've had a similar issue last night. After a perfect launch, and then not so perfectly deleting the character with all my preorder bonus items (i hope i'll get em back soon), i've played for 5-6 hours. Then i've took a break and when i've logged in i've been disconnected several times. I was in one of those crafting stations, so i've tried to leave the zone and then everything went smooth again. About half an hour later i;ve got back in the crafting area without any issues.
So as a suggestion ... ruuuuun Forest, ruuuun :-) Try and leave the zone you're in, go to a different part of the city, teleport to another distant shrine or something.
