Remove the Profanity filter

SickDuck✭✭✭✭✭Profanity filter is so badly implemented in ESO. Filtering out profanity is fine, but what it does is mainly highlighting non-profane content by ignoring completly valid white spacing and punctuation. It is dumb. By this normal conversations are hard to read and the tool itself is planting filthy words in our minds while we try to figure out what’s going on. By turning it off it more likely you get fewer profane words, that’s how bad it is.

Obviously '***' is the word they are censoring. And if you want to criticize something, you should always ask yourself whey they implemented it that way if you want your objections to sound reasonable. People will try work-arounds to insert censored words. Adding spaces is one work-around. A more complex filter might whitelist certain phrases like whisper me, but any added complexity adds processing which makes things slower. While we can always think of ways a word can be fine, they are thinking of the problematic uses. If you are an adult and feel it is overkill, turn it off. I don't see why any adult would turn it on.1 -

they're considering several languages. For example 'p^u^t^a" is filtered, even if you're saying "I'd like to put a cup on my table"
Just because you don't recognize something as such, doesn't mean it couldn't possibly be. Your experience, knowledge and perception is not the end all-be all of existence. As a matter of fact, it's quite a small, insignificant portion of reality. Open your mind up a bit.

Well as a fully grown adult who can choose to use profanity or not I have a few questions.
1) I want the filter. Why do you presume I don't? If my niece is staying over and I'm playing ESO I want the ability to restrict what she see's even if I turn it off most of the time.
2) If you believe a genuine word is blocked have you raised a ticket? This is the way email filtering works in every company. If there is no reason to exclude the word it can easily be added to a whitelist.
3) Why do you need to swear at all in text or voice chat? Fine if you are in your guild and that is accepted behaviour but in a public area common decency states that you don't
4) If there is an issue with the filter and you get nowhere with the ticket you have raised, is it so difficult to type whisper or whisp me instead of whisper me?
People are free to make their own choices but if a product contains a profanity filter, or in fact any type of filter to stem abusive behaviour this is surely not a bad thing? I know for a fact that people from all races, religions, sexual orientation and people with illnesses both physical and mental may not want to read a lot of the content in text chat so filtering is good and the ability to control the filter is kindly provided by the developers.2 -

I disagree, I actually think that it should be enforced. Additionally we should have blasphemy filters too, such that you could not take the Lords name in your mouth, do not say "Thank God" or similar blasphemous utterings. Also I think there should be an "annoying filter" to filter away anything too annoying. A problem I am seeing with the profanity filter right now is that it censores too many things unnecessarily.
Sure, you can turn it off, but suppose you want it on. If you play on EU and speak let's say German you actually have to work around things that trigger the English profanity filter that just happen to appear in German sentenses. Without trying I am almost certain that the spanish word for black can't even be written because of the English filter.
It is too strict to the point that people who would prefer it being on, turn it off anyway as it just disturbs the flow of a conversation. I would like the option of having a selection of multiple language based profanity filters for at least the main languages of the game (English, German, French and Japanese?).

Unfortunately this isn't always the case. That work you reference at the end of your comment popped up in my zone chat about a month ago with someone using it in very derogatory terms. I reported the issue and thankfully haven't seen that word since so hopefully it is fully blocked now. But this is an example of what we should do when we see an issue with the filter. Report it and the admins/devs can do something about it.0 -
