Or leave it in place since you can't possibly know who does or doesn't want it. It's a toggle. Having it available for those who do want it is a good thing. Cuts down on CS too.

Anyways, if you are talking about In Game - There is an option to turn it the damn hell off. Do you even Play ESO?

If you mean the Forums...? ...SFW kinda matters to a lot of people.

It is actually quite funny to see what the game sees as "profanity" and leaves you wondering how exactly that could be even remotely fall under the category of "bad" words.

Well, yes you should because you aren't the one who gets to decide what an option defaults to and whether or not someone else might not want to see "profanity" (like someone else said, it can be odd what gets filtered but there you have it).

I wouldn't say remove it in case people want to avoid profanity, but at least make it an actual profanity filter instead of ... whatever it is now.

My lowbie had profanity turned on by default; someone typed in chat "Does anyone know of a good trading guild?", and my toon saw "Does anyone know o*****ood trading guild?"

I mean it's nice that it's trying to get around people typing slurs and profanity using spaces between words, but... profanity filters are supposed to remove profanity, not make non-profane conversation indecipherable.

I like having the option to turn the censor on and off, nor do I mind having to turn it on. Zone chat needs it sometimes, especially in PVP. Some nights, I'm terribly entertained by the in-fighting in my faction and want to watch the mess in uncensored glory and other nights I don't.

But if we're talking about things I want in game, I wish the censor replaced everything censored with insults from Shakespeare, but I'm not going to get what I want either.

IMO profanity filter is way too strict, it's hard to communicate in my native language with the filter on. And for example you can't say: "Thurvokun ticks me off!" because it turns into "Thurvo *** icks me off!" There are of course a lot more phrases that shouldn't be cencored and that are not in any way offensive or vulgar.

If you don't want the filter just turn it off?
And let other people decide whether they want to see your and other peoples swearing or not. It should be their choice, not the one spouting the swearwords and such. I am assuming this is what you don't want as why else make the post? And the way you are posting points to it. You like to swear and want an (unwilling) audience for it? Or this is a troll post.

As for a profanity filter on a forum. If ZoS wants it they should have it. Honestly the forums can be bad enough and crude enough without people peppering it with swearwords.

Present system allows for this perfectly, in this regard it is not broken, does not need to be fixed.

Is the profanity filter flawless... nope. Some stuff gets filtered out that should not be, perfectly normal non profane words. So it could do with some work.

ps: I never have the profanity filter on.

We have the option to turn it off for those that don't want it, so there's no reason to remove it completely.

We much prefer to give an option for settings like this instead of leaving them out completely.

Having to turn it off every time you create a new toon is kind of a pain isn't it?Why isn't it off by default?

    No, not really.
Why isn't it off by default?

It makes no sense for a "protective" measure to not start in the "on" position?

Including the forums? If so, I can't find it. In our increasingly PC snowflake world, I have grown tired of the constant snowflake-protecting rules on the forums I visit. I do not need a profanity filter and would like to have mine removed.

I was referring to the game itself.

The forums have rules against profanity and attempting to work-around the profanity filter. We will continue to enforce those. There are plenty of other places you can have that type of conversation other than here.

And ZMax wouldn't. Their forums, their rules. I can live with not being able to swear for a bit. It's really not that difficult.

A better option would be to make the setting account-wide. Possibly with a sublist of checkboxes for each character in case there are people who want some characters with it on and some with it off.

A problem I am seeing with the profanity filter right now is that it censores too many things unnecessarily.
Sure, you can turn it off, but suppose you want it on. If you play on EU and speak let's say German you actually have to work around things that trigger the English profanity filter that just happen to appear in German sentenses. Without trying I am almost certain that the spanish word for black can't even be written because of the English filter.
It is too strict to the point that people who would prefer it being on, turn it off anyway as it just disturbs the flow of a conversation. I would like the option of having a selection of multiple language based profanity filters for at least the main languages of the game (English, German, French and Japanese?).

I have 13 max level character and I have deleted more max level toons in the past and having to turn the filter off has never been a problem. Taking 3 second to click settings and click turn off profanity filter isn't going to kill you. If you want an easy way to not have to deal with it then either don't make any new characters or stop playing. It's not that hard to fix it or turn it off
