ALL pets are worthless garbage from a tank perspective...they steal aggro from me, they stun enemies so I cant drag them in with chains...and THEY FIGHT ENEMIES ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE ROOM IN SOME CORNER I CANT REACH FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER! Down with ALL pets, replace them with real abilities please.
Pets take half damage from AOE and are immune to some effects, but you really need to babysit them.
Pretty much go for 100% hardened ward uptime and you'll find your pets are a lot tougher. If you run the infernal guardian monster set this turns into a decent damage spell as well.

If you are taunting the enemies, a pet cannot override your taunt. If you aren't taunting, the pet is no different from a DPS or healer attracting the attention of something you didn't taunt and fighting them in some strange way. If they are fighting in a corner, ranged taunt the enemy or pull them in just like you would if it were a silly DPS out by their lonesome.
Keep calm and taunt on.
Those of You guys suggesting to use a shield 100% of the time in combat are ridiculous.
to be far there a was some serious bugs before step 2017 patch

Those of You guys suggesting to use a shield 100% of the time in combat are ridiculous.
Let’s do some simple math. If you cast a 4000 cost Magicka shield that lasts 6 seconds every 6 seconds for 30 seconds that’s 20,000 Magicka. Over 1minute that’s 40,000 Magicka. Any dps who is using 40k Magicka every minute to keep a shied up and using that as a skill every 1 out of 6 seconds is going to have no Magicka left and terrible dps....
Shielding is for when your taking enough damage the shield needs using. How many dps tests on a skeleton have you seen where they keep their shield on 100% uptime?

It's technically the strongest in a way. Bol only gives you half to 2nd Ally and only those in front for first (cone)
First of all, it's a sheNot only is her name Matriarch but she also has very distinctive visual signs of uh...female gender.
Second of all, she is ~80% immune to AoE so basically only things killing her are direct attacks and some special stuff like the totem in vet RoM on last boss. That's why you use Hardened Ward(or the other morph) when you know there's a lot of possibly untaunted melee around(trash packs included). Next, you now MUST cast Twilight heal every once in a while even if no groupmates require it, in order to heal Twilight herself since ZOS removed in combat pet health regeneration and your other heals may or may not hit her.
She is actually pretty sturdy, you just need to know when to use shields and heals. You also should not be relying on her as one and only heal. Twilight died? Well turn around and burst heal with Combat Prayer then, then spam a couple Springs and then as Springs ticks use that safe time to re-summon the pet.
I do agree a more visible health bar would be nice indeed though. Perhaps an optional toggle in settings adding your pets' health to the group/near your own healthbar or something.
Edit: Oh and yes. She taunts. Not sure why but it actually does come in handy sometimes. You need to make sure that your tank is taunting(her taunt will not steal that of an actual tank) on bosses and if she gets stuck behind fighting a lonely zombie on a trash mob, just y+rmb her(if on PC, not sure on console), this will make her stop fighting and come to your side generally(and the stray mob will follow).

Did you just assume the matriarchs gender?

So Matriarch can heal targets all around me (the Matriarch) in a 28m range?

What Matriarch's healing is affected? Only by Max Magicka? Or is it a bug?

Yes, this is intended, has always been like this. The base heal is calculated as 20% of your max magic. Then this is number is impacted by percentage healing boosts, like blessed or the ritual mundas.
The damage the matriarchs zap does is also 8% of your max magic.

Zap is also increased by master arms. It's makes wonder why we hardly see it's brother the torrementor.
