For those who think Zaan is too OP, why not run it yourselves to even the playing field? For those already running Zaan, what is/are your reason/s for running it? I'm asking this out of honest curiosity.

As an aside, for those who don't get the thread title's reference, what the heck is wrong with you? Culture yourselves.

Why are people so clueless about Zaan, as soon I got that helm and tested it in a few dungeons, I was seriously disappointed, even with Elfbane it's really very situational, the moment I dodge out or move away due to mechanics, it breaks, DPS is mediocre with it just like Grothdaar and Ilambris. Only in fights that are tank and spank is it just a wee bit useful, but at the loss of one five piece.

This has clearly been blown out of proportion by noobies and PvP carebears. People who state that this set is OP have never tested it themselves and have been as usual fodder to good players.

TL;DR Git Gud buddy and for heaven's sake stop complaining about everything.

People will complain about anything that kills them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Zaan's not that stronk in pvp terms. If you're a melee 1v1er, then sure, it's good. But you'll have a better time with sets that are aoes, like Skoria, or ones that don't break after a certain distance, like Celurrion's (fergot how to spell). Zaan isn't like how old Viper or Red Mountain, where there was no counter whatsoever.

If you fight a few people and one of them is wearing Zaan it is really bad. Its already hard to see the beam on you, when several people try to smash your head.
A good solution would be, make it interruptible. This wouldn't be a nerf for PVE.

I’ve actually been testing it out in PVP and Skoria a.) Procs more reliably b.) Simply parses higher. Zaan is only decent if your enemy is stationary or you have gobs of CC (and your opponent doesn’t have immunity).

I’ve gone back to Skoria, personally.

P.S. An opponent wearing Thurvokun is a bigger concern, since it has literally no CD and inflicts maim, both minor AND major defile.

Thurvokun I found bad - nobody is standing in that circle on purpose. Skoria is of course nice, but Zaan's damage is much higher. Just fight some players using negate and wearing Zaan - you can just die.

I ran Zaan as a means to test out whether or not it fit the hype that surrounded it. The end result? I swapped Zaan for: Blood Spawn, Grothdarr, and Skoria. Just as I assumed I would. There is no way I’d give up 1 of those 3 sets for Zaan. No way; no how.

That’s the point though: you have a constant area of “DON’T STAND HERE”. I’m reminded of Wrobel’s lolworthy Templar “house” comments. Except Thurvokun is actually a threat. I’ve killed so many stamina dps from that set that I’ve lost count. If they’re ranged or magika you have the usual option of shields, reflects etc.

I really allows you to stand your ground and make incremental positioning and advances.

The problem with proc sets like Zaan is that they are so strong that gameplay ends up being centered around them. Furthermore, too many fights involving proc sets are decided by when they happen to proc.

I avoided burst proc sets like Selene, Tremorscale and Velidreth until their most recent nerfs. I began experimenting with them in 3.2 and find the gameplay to be very unsatisfying.

Unfortunately, they are so strong that one gimps themselves by not using them in many cases.

Most recently I've been playing on a lowbie 7 LA Argonian nb with no proc sets available and it's MUCH more fun.

It's actually a nod to This Is Spinal Tap, but since in the movie they're referencing Jack the Ripper, I suppose technically you're right.

Yeah, that was my Templar build, it had 1400 spell DMG lmfao so that's when I found out a full on defense set up +Zaan just won't cut it

BTW if you're console you may actually recognize whom that player is (hint he's pretty good from what I hear)

And then let's think about what you said. The very idea that "...and he didn't die" is OP in of itself, what other proc set can single handedly kill a player?
