A problem I am seeing with the profanity filter right now is that it censores too many things unnecessarily.
Sure, you can turn it off, but suppose you want it on. If you play on EU and speak let's say German you actually have to work around things that trigger the English profanity filter that just happen to appear in German sentenses. Without trying I am almost certain that the spanish word for black can't even be written because of the English filter.
It is too strict to the point that people who would prefer it being on, turn it off anyway as it just disturbs the flow of a conversation. I would like the option of having a selection of multiple language based profanity filters for at least the main languages of the game (English, German, French and Japanese?).
Yeah this has long been one of the issues with it. It seems to look for keywords regardless of their placement within any other letters.

For example today a friend informed me freestyle is filtered because part of the wording is slang for a sex position. However the very common British insult beginning with W works fine. The list needs to be reviewed and fixed with considerations for language and not filter partial words due to some of the word being an term on the list.

    Nobody wants it.

That is absolutely not true. I want it and use it. If you don't want it, please feel free to turn it off. I'm not sure why you care that it is an option as long as you are able to turn it off. As far as the filter for the forums, you can always post somewhere else that has less restrictions. I personally like the filter on the forums.

I have come to the conclusion that there are a lot of people in this world who live extremely miserable lives, and want everyone else to be the same.
Go and get a life. It's not hard.

Going back on topic, I mostly have it turned off, although I love that whisper me is blocked.

And here I am not even knowing that something like that is hidden in the word freestyle and only learn of its existence through the unnecessary censorship. What kind of profanity filter teaches you new swear/inappropriate words you have to fill in to make a sentense sensible?

Having to turn it off every time you create a new toon is kind of a pain isn't it?Why isn't it off by default?

I'm skeptical that the profanity toggle deserves the hatchet. It's such a simple thing.. it's either on or off at the user's preference. And it works flawlessly.

Choice is key here, as in most things. For everyone who feels a need to utter profanities there is another who sees no such need. The game has a maturity rating that enables profanities to be permitted with the option to avoid them, while the forum has no age restrictions and therefore it is right that profanities are not permitted at all.

As for the filter catching innocent phrases that contain spaced out letters forming a profanity, you only have to look at the lengths gold sellers go to in order to get their message past filters to know that if the present profanity filter was relaxed on multiple words the likelihood is that those determined to impose their profanities on others would find a way to do so.

No point in complaining about filter filtering too much. People find all sorts of ways to sneak things past the filter. That is why they have to make it span spaces and consider alternate spelling.

Edit: that being said, there may be questionable inclusion of some terms.

Believe it or not, some people are bothered by bad language and don't want to see it.

I don't really buy that it's too much of a chore for you to spend a couple of seconds changing one little setting on a new character. Especially as you're probably changing other things to set everything up how you want it anyway.

So the way I see it, the only real reason you'd want it removed would be so that you could swear at people without them being able to avoid it.

I guess it takes the fun out of calling people names if they can't see it.

Including the forums? If so, I can't find it. In our increasingly PC snowflake world, I have grown tired of the constant snowflake-protecting rules on the forums I visit. I do not need a profanity filter and would like to have mine removed.

I was referring to the game itself.

The forums have rules against profanity and attempting to work-around the profanity filter. We will continue to enforce those. There are plenty of other places you can have that type of conversation other than here.

Is there any rule against ******* a **** to **** more profane than it really is, you ******** ******** rep?
Is there any rule against making a sentence to seem more profane than it really is, you kindly community rep?

P.S. as to the OP a lot of people post while really drunk on Sundays, not sure why

It is actually quite funny to see what the game sees as "profanity" and leaves you wondering how exactly that could be even remotely fall under the category of "bad" words.

The in game filter does not parse for spaces. So, that can result in situations where larger, innocuous, phrases can have seconds carved off and censored. For example, the phrase, "just fish it out," will display as, "just fi*** out," which is, for my money, far more amusing. To be fair, it will also, straight up block, that "edgy" kid who tries to slip past the profanity filter by dropping a space between each letter. With the filter turned off, it's legitimately funny to watch those kids trying to bypass the filter and getting increasingly frustrated.

I have 13 max level character and I have deleted more max level toons in the past and having to turn the filter off has never been a problem. Taking 3 second to click settings and click turn off profanity filter isn't going to kill you. If you want an easy way to not have to deal with it then either don't make any new characters or stop playing. It's not that hard to fix it or turn it off

While I agree that it doesn't take long to disable I can't see having it. It's a rated M game for 17+ (ya know, ADULTS) and the profanity filter doesn't actually work. It blocks more words and phrases that aren't profanity than it actually filters. It also filters dumb things like when i say "put a" like I get that it's a bad word in Spanish but I'm not playing with the Spanish language on so I shouldn't be seeing word censorship from languages that aren't mine.
