Do you play in first person or third person?

I only play in third person and never use first person
Having played so many action/adventure games and RPG's in 3rd person I got used to it and prefer it now. Any game that gives me the option, 99.99% of the time I'm going to choose it. Of course some games you can't (FPS like Overwatch lately), and I do fine, its just not my preference.

Like a lot of people I play in third person the majority of the time and switch to first person if I need to see something close up.

First person is just so much more satisfying but doesn't give you the situational awareness. Like fights feel more intense and I still remember how awesome it was that ZOS took the time to design the first person mode by request of long time TES players.

When I first started a little over a year ago, I only played in first person. But, as I made some alts and branched out into PVP, I found 3rd person to be better. However, it took me a while of playing in 3rd person on my alts before I made the switch to playing that way on my main.

First person allows more accurate aiming I've found, whereas sometimes with melee my attacks will whiff in third person if I don't have the angle just right. However, I love third person and I get most immersed when I have that close over the shoulder perspective, and zooming out has its benefits in places like PVP. Also, I HAVE TO use first person while decorating a house.

Nobody in their right mind is going to play this game in first person. The tactical disadvantages are a mile long and you gain nothing. If you play in first-person exclusively, you are worthless for anything harder than overworld content and normal dungeons, period. That said, I do sometimes change to first-person to get a better look at decorative things (and myself), and as someone else mentioned, stealing.

Gee, thanks for the helpful comment that is totally based on your preferences. I'm absolutely shocked and appalled that I've been playing the game wrong since early access. Guess I should go back and redo all the undaunted stuff the right way, and apologize to the guildies that completed the content with me.

Or not. After all, I'm not in my right mind, so....

I've always played the TES games in FP so it feels more natural. Solo boss fights can get intense in FP as well, some fights get my heart pumping. I do understand that for boss mechanics in a group and pvp switching to TP is pretty much a must. So I try to use both so they both feel natural.

Almost always first person, except if it's absolutely necessary (mostly bosses and trials or things like that).
You can get pretty decent awareness of what's going on even in 1st person, it looks way cooler, and I find it overwhelmingly easier to target stuff.
I have very little interest in doing things where decent awareness is not sufficient, though.

Always hated 3rd person mode right from when the original Tomb Raider came out,so 1st person all the way for me.

This does mean that melee combat in pvp can be "challenging" ;)

Always third unless I'm using first to check out details like someone's mount or items in the world, sometimes you can't zoom in well enough with third person.

Play in 3rd person, think it's great the option is there for that Elder Scrolls immersion, but I find it to be too much of a hindrance in combat with so much AoE damage. ESO also has a way more fast paced combat system compared to older TES games and things can get out of hand pretty quick in 1st person.

I won't play with anyone who plays in 1st person unless they swear up and down they'll never, ever use 1st person POV in group content or PVP.

Some of the only really, really terrible days I've had in ESO ultimately rested in someone using 1st person POV.

And yet, if they are using First Person POV, and you have no reason to question them about it, does it matter?

For Oblivion and Skyrim I played a mix. Wandering around and questing was done in 3rd. For combat and dungeon delving I switched to first, mostly because it was easier to aim spells and arrows at moving enemies. On ESO though there are only really three times when I'm pretty much forced to use 1st person. When I'm tanking the lamia in SO (nice view of snake boobies), when I'm tanking the mammoth in Falkreath (hairy chest on my face, always a delight), and depending on positioning, when I'm tanking one of the twins on MoL (prime view of a khajiiti belly button).

I enjoy first person in single-player games, but mmos it's always third person for me. If I played ESO in first person I'd have a constant desire to spin around and see what's happening behind me. I'd feel "blind".

Hahahahaha, how do you get anything done in first person? I can only imagine that you have not progressed to end-game, and you do not PvP. You need to be able to see what's going on around you! The best way to play is to set the viewing angle to 130 degrees (the maximum), and to fully zoom out for some content, like vMA and the vWGT inhibitor fight. In PvP you also want to see where the attack is coming from. Being ganked from behind must be completely devastating in first person. Please let me know what server you play on, and I shall relieve you of your Tel Var in short order ;).

The only reason I use first person is because the game lets you configure the viewing angle separately, which means you can set it to 70 degrees, the minimum, and use it as a zoom while you are stealthed in PvP.

Thing is, most TES games don't lend themselves properly to 3rd person, especially ranged characters. Third person feels like an after thought. Ditto for Fallout 3, NV and 4. With ESO, it feels completely the opposite for me. Eso feels similar to how BioWare games feel, 3rd feeling the most natural.

Out in the wilderness I play normally in 1st person to see things from the perspective of my character - by immersion reasons. I towns and villages and when I do chores there, I normally switch to 3rd person. In stealth missions I use 3rd person, in order to look around corners. This is a compensation for the lack of perception options, which my character would have, if it would be a real life situation - so this is basically a workaround, not very immersive, but necessary in stealth missions.

I have to say I have a real problem to deal with 3rd person in melee combat - ranged is another thing - but still, I perfer 1st person in solo play. With a group this is a totally different issue.

Interesting, I never tried 1st person in editor mode - I will try this, if it is more precise.

I played Skyrim in 3rd person exclusively and for any mmo I also stick to 3rd person. I also play vehicle combat action games and strategy games, in 3rd person or zoomed out. Despite the different genres, I apply the same view logic to them.

Personally, I found the expanded field of view and the ability to see to the side and even a bit behind of whatever I'm controlling to be extremely useful. I think it helps my situational awareness by letting me see incoming attacks, proximity dangers, and nearby characters/units. As a plus I can see my own character's outfit; or in other games personal camos and decals.
