I dont think this is a steam issue. I think the lag, slowdown, whatever you want to call the over all issue, is causing steam to time out.

if that was the case - other games would work fine. but they don't seem to be. moreover - people with non steam version are logging in without any problems

Im checking with gaming buddies on that.... Im not saying anything other than that I check several sources first.

Yet you were quick enough to say it wasn't a Steam issue. Right.
Because of the accumulation of evidence that with or without steam, the launcher lags, the time from password imput to character selection is over 1 minute and the long load screens from character select to game entry and from zone to zone is so long that a timeout actually make sense.
I've been informed that Fallout and SWtOR arent having any issue thru steam but more info coming.

No, I'm not having issues playing any other Steam game either. But it doesn't logically follow that it *cannot* be a Steam issue with ESO in particular. Which it is.
A fact that everyone except you seems to understand.

Reread the thread label and my original post - I used the words *I dont think it's a steam issue*. And then gave the reasons.
And what you're relaying as "fact" Im getting the exact opposite from people I've been gaming with for more than 7 years. Some of us have actually met in person. And I will trust them over some one I've not met every time. Nothing personal but I dont just hand out trust like candy on Halloween. If the community Im in(well over 500 people across 3 discords and 2 teamspeak servers) says they arent having issues with Steam outside of ESO... That's the corner Im standing in.

Understandable. Then you'll understand that my husband of decades carries more weight for me. He's unable to log in to Steam, end of.
Now, the difference might be that we're in the EU, who knows. Fact remains and he's not alone.
Also, the "login error" message appears in about 5 seconds, not 2 minutes for me, so it's not a timeout issue that OP jumped to conclude. Curious why it takes OP 2 minutes to get from login to character screen... takes me about 20 seconds (when it's not broken). Let me guess wildly at the problem... maybe you have a fragmented SSD? (LOL, that's a joke there.)
I do find it curiouser and curiouser that I had a Windows 10 update pending when the problem started. Hmmm...
CSGO witcher 3 and morrowind all play fine when launched from steam for me right now, can't log in to eso tho
