Does Zenimax needs to improve the servers?

At this point, it isn't so much a question of 'should', so much as a question of 'can they'. I dont think they can.

I think they could have more servers and one specifically for PVP. I think it'd make a massive difference especially on console, other games have a lot more servers than this and it should be the other way around. Its a broken product at the end of the day.

I don't think it's necessarily the hardware that needs to be improved/upgraded about the servers. I would say it's the software that runs the game world emulation. Paired with crappy game engine, we're in a world of trouble.

Separate servers (breaking up the megaservers) would probably not make any difference. It would probably make things worse.

Depends on how their archetecture is setup.

If they just funnled everything into clusters for PVE and PVP, this would likely do the trick.

But they have a megaserver archetecture. And I doubt that's gonna help.

I came back just 2 weeks ago and didnt experience so much of a lagfiesta as you guys mentioned, but i definetely had some issues with staying in the loading screen at Cyrodiil which is pretty much the same stuff they had after release.

This is pretty much annoying, because that was the main reason i quit 6 weeks after release and now coming back seeing the same issues still being in the game is kinda weird. I played lots of MMOs over 16 years right now and all of them had issues, but seeing a game not making a single step in the right direction talking about server performance issues is kind of interesting.

I still really enjoy the World of TES and am looking forward for some Cyrodiil action happening, but i am also aware that they probably wont do anything to get rid of the performance issues, because not much has changed since the release and that shows me that it isnt a real priority at all. I also kind of agree that they probably are focussing on post-ESO projects and just keeping the game alive as much as it needs to.

Regardless, the bottom line is 4 years. We definitely need to see the company invest in this game and this community by upgrading the servers. Perhaps this has been done and they just don't announce it. How would we know? Is it an issue discuss behind closed doors? Is it ever brought up at headquarters? Gina? Jessica? *cough* umm new guys?
At home we upgrade our systems to run content better and prepare for future requirements, does Zenimax do this in the offices? Do the employees do this at home? Surely the number of mentions across the forum boards has someone's attention there by now. Please let us know if you already have bright shiney new servers and all of the lag issues are another area that you are working on, or that you have plans to upgrade them this year, or that you want us all to pick a thumb and sit on it.

    Thank you :)

For a game that takes a day each week for server maintenance since release - it's only gotten progressively worse.

I don't know why someone would vote "No", but dishing out DLC's, Chapters, etc. should not take priority over persistent issues.

It would be nice if they do like a dev stream or something like that and show what goes on behind the scenes. It would probably help people understand what they're doing and the time and effort that goes into it, and reduce the frequency of these threads.

I don't know whether it's been said, but Fengrush suggested lowering - I'm guessing perhaps halving - the population cap in Cyro campaigns, and creating more of them as necessary. I don't know what knock on requirements that would have on ZOS' server infrastructure.

The Internet is a factor, which I believe can lead to large ping spikes. At the weekends, on PC EU, however, I frequently observe a consistent ping in the high 100s to low 200s, which I have come to believe indicates that the servers are, or ZOS' internal network is, heavily loaded. I already know that Cyrodiil will be bad, and I defect to Shor or IC. Even trivial things, like uncrouching, often feel noticeably delayed.

My normal, "good", ping, as displayed in-game, is around 100 to 120.

By the way, I see no logic in ZOS restricting you to a single guest campaign. For example, I play mostly in CP. Vivec is my main campaign. I would be much more inclined to also spend time in Sotha Sil, if that meant I wasn't locked out of Shor as an alternate for when Vivec - and EU Sotha, for that matter - is full or laggy. ZOS might find it easier to balance server load, if they didn't throw this artificial hurdle in people's way.

Strange how it states above the votes results "petition closed and turned into a discussion" for me.

Cannot look at vote results that has been closed.

Can anybody else actually cast a vote?

Such a pertinent question today, on the day they can’t get the servers back up after applying the Dragon Bones patch. Dragon Bones.....? Old Bones is about right.

With the lag and other issues in Cyrodiil, and today’s issue, I’m convinced their server farm is just a bunch of old 386’s daisy chained together with old phone wire.

Good job I’m not paying for this......oh, hang on......

Ok just got a friend to try this out.

Apparently the vote option is still there for those that have not voted and he could view the results.

So "petition closed and turned into a discussion" does not make sense.

I, however, can not view the results like I could earlier to see who had voted which way.

Yes casted a vote earlier and had the option to view results on a button. This option has now disappeared.

This still means the comment about petition closed makes no sense; as it is not closed people can still vote.

Nobody is asking for freebies, Everyone is asking for better server preformance for the product we have bought and consistantly help maintain through purchases.

Its the exact same thing as Internet Providers making sure that their customers have a stable internet connection.

There is a very important point too this thread and that is too make sure ZoS does not hide from this problem. Its very easy to give a PR statement or brush it off on ESO live but when its constantly there viewed by the whole community or at least those who come too the forums while being a small part of the community is never the less and important amount will be a problem for them until they deal with it.

Enough is enough why should we have too put up with this crap? This is supposed too be a AAA game. Not a greenlight steam game in early access.

@Tyralbin: hopefully the issue gets hammered out. 543 votes; 510 votes for Yes, improvement of game servers must be a priority; 33 votes for No, new DLC and decoration items are the priority.

Years ago when customers complained it was usually a face to face interaction and customers had power and managed to get results.

Now complaints have become non interactive and people have just given up. Companies have more power now than they ever have had.

Not having a go at Zeni itself all are guilty of this and it is the way things have become.

How many times have you sent in a complaint/bug report and received no reply? (Every MMO I have played has been guilty of bad communication in one way or another).

  • buggeymanb16_ESO
I dont think its bad communication, because i assume that ZOS is aware of the fact that people are going ham because of the performance issues they are experiencing.

The thing is that they dont WANT to say anything. Just imagine the fact that they truely think that this issue cant be solved with hardware and they really would have to change code or stuff like that and the answer to wether hit the "GO"-Button to work on the code or not was a no, then i assure you that NO company on this planet would ever tell their customers that the thing they want "most" wont ever be done. Usually silence is a bad sign in most cases and as far as i know from other MMOs silence for something going on for such a long period of time is always a "nah, we are good, just pay dem monthly fee and let us work on that other project we got here going".

I guess that server issues aint even a point on their "to-do" List at all and we have just to either wait for a more stable/better game to come out or deal with the issue as it is right now. The only thing we have to deal with those issues is constructive feedback on the forums and stop paying for things we dont really prioritise, like DLCs and stuff.

lol. Ok, lets all sit down and play the game like nothing going on...

Your comment is kind of pointless, absurd.

We PAY for the game, some of us PAY for the service, so as costumers we CAN ask and demand them to improve the performance of the game. With out good performance, whats the point of playing the game?.

CRAP server performance in pvp. Every night in prime time it's horrible and while in-game ping says 200ms it's over 1 second real time lag when you fire with a siege weapon until it actually fires. Using gap closer skills makes it completely wonky with this kind of lag. Get stuck in an endless loading screen aaand back in the que for you !

I have dealt with major lag in PvP, 4 man dungeons, 12 man trials, maelstrom arena and in overland locations. That pretty much covers every bit of content in the game. The worst of it and most consistent is always PvP and 12 man trials. Something needs to be done.
