The fact of the matter is that The Withered Tree is a major hub for RP, which almost all of my friends use. Not only that, but I've had him find his way into Ald'Ruhn while i was RP'ing there, aswell as in the Ebony Flask. ZOS needs to do something about this. I'm sick of having to have to move where I RP to accommodate someone who can't understand how to be a decent human being.

*Checks to verify that The Withered Tree is in Riften.* Yep. PvPers. :\

I've already had one post closed for naming the person, so i won't go doing that. But According to people I've spoken to, he has in the past been emperor [he has the emperors regalia after all].

If they keep crashing the game by how many particles are put on screen, how can I ignore them?

You can limit the number of particle effects in your menu options. This should fix the crashing issue. You really shouldn't have more than 1k effects on a good rig. If your rig is less good, do less.

As for the A-holes. Sorry about that man. In an mmo with no in-game mods and that has gone so far as to ignore the fact that a significant number of their players are cheating using 3rd party software I don't think you can expect much help.

I have only ever heard of a few perma-bans going out. One was for embarrassing ZOS in game (the meteor spammers who showed every casual in the world that cheating was a huge thing.) ZOS just dosen't generally do much in regards to punishing bad behavior. If you can get them all to where white hoods while they berate you they might get banned. I remember some guild pretending to lynch people that got ZOS to ban them (and also to disallow all white outfits with hoods game wide and threaten all players who happened to be wearing white with hoods.)

Sorry they are messing up you RP. Look on the bright side. ZOS made hundreds of houses that you can buy for only a small fortune to RP unmolested in.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

I often RP with a buddy and we are usually grouped and chat in the group chat - or whispers if there are only the 2 of us. We've occasionally been stared at or laughed at, but we simply ignore them. If they persist we relocate to one of our houses.

Give trolls a reaction and they will come back for more, expecting you to entertain them. Ignore them or disappear to somewhere else quietly and they will quickly get bored.

This game might be rated 'mature', but there is no accounting for immature trolls playing it.
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend, my Shining Light. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

Yeah, I almost named the guild, then remembered. Also, yes, because these are hardcore PvPers, they will follow you to Morrowind. Getting out into the other DLC spaces may be safer, but still.

That defeats the purpose of open RP. More people can't join the RP community if we're hidden away. And I already do limit my particles, and [unless i'm being trolled, obviously] i don't have issues. But it goes passed that. Him using homophobic slurs. Him spamming abilities and driving newer players away. Him thinking he can make a guild of people to harass others. These are big problems that need to be dealt with, and me consistently putting in tickets to no reply is frustrating. They don't even bother closing the tickets half the time.

And that would be a good short term solution. But what about public events i go to? What about if none of my friends are on but i want to RP? And that still doesn't address the slurs and insults he threw at me before i ignored him. that doesn't address the fact that he is making the community more toxic by having his guild of trolls. That doesn't address that he drives away newer Roleplayers.

Yeah. Like, I've not seen him in the Gold Coast, but that's the only other DLC I have. And most of my characters have no reason to be there. And since the RP community really only does scheduled events there, I would really be forced to cut down on RP for that.

And, don't do the thing I remember seeing some RPers do a few years ago, where they announced to each other in /say where they were going before they left, and then, later, were wondering how the trolls found them.

Sorry, are you suggesting that I should have to cater to them? because it sounds a lot like you're suggesting that I should have to hide from public spaces to RP, which is something I will not do in this mmoRPg

We cannot change the way others act. We can change how we react to them.

Move on, ignore because any interaction with them is simply gratifying their behaviour and giving them what they want.

If zos are doing nothing then just buy a homestead. Decorate it as a tavern and only invite those you want to be there. Easy.

Both of you missed the point. I already have homesteads. I already use them if i want to do private events. But if someone is crossing the line into harrassment when i'm RP'ing in a tavern, where nobody is being forced to read posts or even be there (there are a total of 2 small sidequests picked up in the withered tree.

If this were any other ToS violation, i wouldn't have to consistantly face this indicidual and his guild of trolls go out of their way to target me if i'm there. It's unacceptable that this is allowed t happen, even with screenshot evidence of him using homophobic slurs and videos of him spamming abilities at me to make the game unpleasent for me to play.

At this point, it's also worth remembering the bit I pointed out earlier about the RP community. Obviously, I don't have the numbers, but there are a lot of false reports generated, which just adds to the noise. Hell, like I said, I know I've been reported by RPers for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and, anecdotally, I know I'm not alone here.

It happened because some members of the community are irrationally territorial. That's not on you, and it doesn't make it okay, but it does create a, "crying wolf," effect in aggregate, which sucks.

And you're right, i know that there are some RP'ers who are dirtbags. But when i've provided gigs of screenshots and videos of harassment and griefing from one player and his guild, that effect should be negated. It's not unreasonable to suggest that when you provide an SC (we'll go with that cuz i'm on my phone now) of him being homophobic that ZOS take action

Don't confuse disagreement with "missing the point".

The point here is that unless and until ZMax does something about it, taking the "high road" is just going to ruin YOUR fun, and increase theirs. Now, if that's what you want to do whilst standing on high principles, that's fine, your choice but when there are alternatives that you won't consider, then you are making a choice that just upsets you.

It’s a shame that others single you out to annoy you and ruin your experience.
However I think its a good thing that they dont just simply ban other players for getting reported.
    They need proof i guess.

Banning is and always should be a last resort kinda thing.
And tbh if you report many times for a year on end chances are they just think “oh this guy/girl again”.

Also you are catering to their wishes by staying in the same cavern IMO.
I hope you find a better peacefull place for playing how you want.

Yup. You have two choices, currently:

    1. You can claim the high ground (which you do have, indeed) and continue to be badgered until ZMax actually does something or

    2. You can move your venue to some place that this prat cannot pester you.

Bonus: 3. Ignore the jerk and carry on right where you have been. Guaranteed that will irk him. This sort wants exactly the reaction you're having. Don't let him rent space in your head. Relegate him and his actions to nothingness.

    Keep reporting.

I have reported people who have participated in game breaking bugs in cyrodiil, harrassment to the point of immitating another player, and just generally disgusting behaviour. Nothing has ever been done to any of those people, and nothing ever will be. Reporting only works if you stir up a drama about it on forums, which you aren't even allowed to do anyway.

So basically, don't bother reporting anyone

Hey here's a fun question for the mods, why is it that the people I've been reporting for years [who I'll add have not only called me a *** in whispers, but actively go out of their way to find me when I'm roleplaying and spam fire abilities and mudballs at me]] still have their accounts? What is the report function even there for if nothing is ever done about it? I've provided screenshots and video of everything and NOTHING is done by you people.

I reported a guy every day for months who use to sit in rawl zone chat talking about *** minors, dropping N bombs all over the place, shooting up schools etc and worse. They never got banned and if they did it was MONTHS later.

More likely they just stopped "playing".

Its a joke what you ACTUALLY get away with in game when it comes to harassment and chat.

Yeah, it's wrong and annoying what 5hey are doing to you, but sticking around for more is pretty dumb. Don't give them the opportunity to do this scrap to you, and hopefully the mods take care of it soon.

    Is that finally clear?
Not trying to play devil's advocate here, but you realize you keep saying some version of the above?

If you're using anything other than /group chat and the individual is not on ignore, your RP chat comes through /zone, /say, or /emote...which means it's visible in anyone's chat window. If it's visible, it's going to occasionally draw attention, which means the "not forced to read" doesn't really apply. If you're /saying or /emoting, it draws even more visual attention.

As you, yourself, have stated, it's not a private event. Walk into an IRL bar during happy hour, side room optional (with doors open), and start enacting a scene from Hamlet or Macbeth. Pretty sure there's gonna be at least one IRL *** with something to add to your display.

Sadly, they've got just as much right to act a fool while you're RPing as your group does to RP.

It's already been mentioned to report, with screenshots, the chat history with the inappropriate overtones. If you're still receiving inappropriate whispers from this player's friends/guildies, keep the evidence and submit with the /help ticket (reply to the email) and action should get taken.

Better yet, msg @ZOS_GinaBruno or one of the Mods, provide the ticket numbers and screen shot evidence (not the mudballs, but the whispers) and I'm sure it will get handled.

Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

IRL'ing for a while for assorted reasons, in forum, and in game.

If they're harassing you in whispers, report that.

That said, if you're reporting them for simply being in the tavern... that's another story. I vaguely remember someone threatening to report me for crafting food and BSing in zone once, because I was "disrupting their experience." Stuff like that... you've got to know that they will retaliate. Context is important.

Hahaha. I had some guy go ballistic at me the other week because I was pickpocketing npcs and killing them in Vivec City. I was ruining his immersion. No one's fault that ZoS made it the only way to obtain certain motifs and having to kill those npcs as to allow a quick respawn. That aside, he was breaking my immersion farming for motifs.

lots of out of the way places...

but you can be spamkilled, and you can't be in groups with people from other factions [making it difficult to find people to RP with in the first place.]

Taverns and buildings in the safe zone.

You know you live in a first world country when... lol

I usually ignore RP'ers.. it's not my thing.. the coloured text is annoying on my screen and I run away as soon as I can.

The only time I've ever even interacted with an RP'er is when I finished up a quest and two of them were there, cussing me out while I was still in the quest dialogue screen because I was in "their" area.
I've provided screenshots and video of everything and NOTHING is done by you people.

You don't really know what they have or haven't done. All you know for sure is they haven't done what YOU want them to do.

Others in this thread have pointed out your current options with how things stand as of right now - good luck.
