Hey here's a fun question for the mods, why is it that the people I've been reporting for years [who I'll add have not only called me a *** in whispers, but actively go out of their way to find me when I'm roleplaying and spam fire abilities and mudballs at me]] still have their accounts? What is the report function even there for if nothing is ever done about it? I've provided screenshots and video of everything and NOTHING is done by you people.

To put it in perspective how big the issue is, they are spamming so many abilities that it is not just crashing my game, but the others in the tavern aswell

If they're harassing you in whispers, report that.

That said, if you're reporting them for simply being in the tavern... that's another story. I vaguely remember someone threatening to report me for crafting food and BSing in zone once, because I was "disrupting their experience." Stuff like that... you've got to know that they will retaliate. Context is important.

I really, really wish they'd give us a forced emote toggle like LOTRO did so we could choose whether to allow ourselves to be griefed by mudballs and the like.

I'm not saying it's because they're in the tavern, they're spamming abilities /on me/. They can't whisper me because i have them ignored [which for some stupid reason doesn't block the mudballs], but they still find ways to make it difficult for me to Roleplay. And spamming an ability to the point that it crashes the game for several people is well within the definition of griefing

Edit: Also, that's the point of the discussion. I've been reporting them with screenshots and nothing's been done.

I honestly wish ignoring someone stopped them from being able to use mementos on you. it makes no sense that it doesn't.

Sorry, are you suggesting that I should have to cater to them? because it sounds a lot like you're suggesting that I should have to hide from public spaces to RP, which is something I will not do in this mmoRPg

You're not going to like this, but it's you. It's not your fault, but after reading your posts, you seem to be walking around with a big "kick me" sign on your back. Trolls don't keep trolling the same person day after day, unless that person is giving them what they want, attention. You will have to step up and ignore them completely, not for just an hour, day or week, but forever and completely.

Report them and move on. Don't feed the trolls.

I've been reporting them for over a year and nothings been done. I've had skills and mementos spammed at me until my game crashes, and the second i log back in the same thing starts all over again. I stopped playing for a month because of it and the day i get back the same thing happens, only now there's a literal guild with the name of the troll who started it. This is clearly more than just 'ignore them' something actually needs to be done about the reports.

Honestly I'm not sure a policy exists that it's wrong to spam abilities on you.

I know it sucks but zones are instanced so leaving and coming back to the same zone may put you in a different instance

I apologize that you have been getting harassed by other players, comrade. While every game has its bad apples, I’ve been noticing that the overall rudeness and toxicity of this game’s community has been multiplying. Just the other day in Auridon, I as well as a buddy of mine tried to stop and derail a group of duelists throwing their weight around and calling less-experienced players names. It’s even obvious here on these very forums, with how some users treat others.

ZOS needs to start becoming more strict about their dealings with problematic people. Yes, I’m aware the game is rated “M” for mature. But, that DOES NOT enable and or excuse things like harassment and toxic behavior and language.

That doesn't always work. and If they're spamming it to the point that the game is crashing for multiple people then something needs to be done.

No. I if I said, "stay and entertain them," that would be catering to them. That's what they want. Disappearing, even if it's a short term decision to relocate does not satisfy them.

Also, operating in group chat drastically cuts down on their ability to harass, because they cannot identify roleplayers if you're not in /say and /emote. Yes, it would be great if players didn't engage in this kind of behavior at all, but... it happens. If you engage in behavior in a public space you cannot control how other people will react.

Beyond that, a lot of players take a very dim view of roleplayers because of past transgressions, including the idiots who will report anyone who invades, "their spaces." (Hell, I still haven't forgotten the ERPers I once found in a house in Daggerfall before the Justice system was a thing.) The people who respond to that, in some cases, are reacting to prior encounters. Not in ESO, but I've been in a dungeon PUG in another MMO, where a couple RPers came in and were STOPING EVERY ROOM, TO RP some idiotic scene. The other three people in the group, we didn't sign up for that. We had our daily interrupted by a pair of intellectual vagrants. And, yeah, this kind of behavior means that RPers, as an aggregate, actually earn the derision they get from the community.

Now, I understand that this isn't behavior you personally engage in. I have no problem with RPers that are willing to engage with the world around them, and aren't confrontational. But, at the same time, I have seen way too many RPers who walk into the room with a chip on their shoulder, insisting that they own the place and everyone else must bow to their fickle whims. And, I'm telling you, the best way to avoid making yourself a target to individuals who are less discriminating than I am is to engage in some basic OpSec.

And most of those RP'ers are loudly criticized. We call that godmodding mate, and it's very heavily looked down upon. And even if people are RP'ing in a room, and you don't like it, no one is forcing you to read the posts. there is No excuse for harassing roleplayers, just because you don't like a post. Yes, i get that some RP'ers are bad, but they do not go out of their way to harass other people, and they are almost always open about that they are RP'ers. But in your post, before you suggest you're not making excuses, basically says that we've earned the hate we get. Which is unacceptable.

Multiple people throwing the mudballs and spamming fire attacks creates a lot of particles very quickly, especially when they can do it to multiple people in a small area.

umm, there's an ignore list for this exact reason. Not sure HOW they're finding you though, unless they are on your "Friend" list it's pretty hard to find any specific character in game...Unless you're hanging around in an empty town.

No, there's no excuse for harassing players. Any players. Doesn't matter if they're RPers or not. And, yeah, I've seen harassment in game. I'd say the vast minority had come from the RP community, but that wouldn't, actually, be true. It's almost a 50/50 split, and I rarely engage with the RP community. Doesn't make it your fault. Doesn't make it Okay. Doesn't make it something you, "earned." However, there are some very... agitated people out there who have serious grievances, legitimate or otherwise, that will happily torment you given the opportunity.

Avoiding them isn't, "catering to them," it's just being circumspect and trying to avoid someone who, you know, will come to harass you.

umm, there's an ignore list for this exact reason. Not sure HOW they're finding you though, unless they are on your "Friend" list it's pretty hard to find any specific character in game...Unless you're hanging around in an empty town.

I am aware, that's why I ignore them. Ignoring them doesn't do anything if they're spamming abilities and mementos at you. and if there's a major roleplay hub, then they can check there. which they've done. Successfully. For quite some time.

It's possible to overload someone's client with enough visual spam. Granted, it's rare, and mostly affects lower end hardware, but it does crash people out.

Then you're missing the point of the post entirely. I'm literally pointing out that nothing is being done about reports. If you'll notice the post began with "Hey here's a fun question for the mods...".

And once again, i'm not saying i deserve extra protection for being a roleplayer, I'm saying that something needs to be done about the griefers who've been reported by not just myself, but plenty of other people. Someone who goes out of their way to make playing the game unpleasant for roleplayers, and someone who literally starts a guild to harass roleplayers.

Not gonna lie at first I thought this was pretty funny but then I thought about if a group of players were stopping me from what I enjoy doing in the game and I felt bad lol.

I know it's probably your favorite tavern to RP in or whatever but maybe try looking around for a different one. There are so many out of the way towns with taverns in Tamriel so you might find one you like even more than the current one you are using. I'm not sure that you'll get ZoS to take action on this though.

The fact of the matter is that The Withered Tree is a major hub for RP, which almost all of my friends use. Not only that, but I've had him find his way into Ald'Ruhn while i was RP'ing there, aswell as in the Ebony Flask. ZOS needs to do something about this. I'm sick of having to have to move where I RP to accommodate someone who can't understand how to be a decent human being.

The simple answer, to the original question is: they didn't cross the line, yet. Or, if they have, it's gotten lost in the background noise. There are behaviors that ZOS will crack down on quickly and harshly. While it sucks, they probably haven't crossed that line, or if they have, it was lost in a wave of other, less serious, issues.

In particular, the crash is a local issue, which is almost impossible to diagnose remotely.
