Looting while in combat on Console - REMOVE

This post is gonna be nice and short. Tired of looting dead ads while trying to kite people in imperial city in pvp, oh yeah there's that boss mechanic, dodge now, oh wait I just looted that scamp on the floor, now I'm dead. Zos, just please remove this in a future update. Thank you

Looting while in combat is a time honored tradition, especially for tanks and healers. You should be more culturally sensitive.

Have you tried changing the auto loot setting? (press "E" and there is no menu popup)

Settings->Gameplay->Items->"Auto Loot" set to ON

Uh. I've never had this happen to me? Maybe you should reconsider changing your key bindings if you find yourself hitting the loot key (which by default is not a key used for anything in combat) during combat.

Is this a controller issue? I use a keyboard and I never have issues with doing unintended actions in combat (my dodge is the default double-tap WASD and Loot is E).

I'd suggest swapping your Keybindings to something different and seeing if that helps, but I don't know how that would work if you aren't using a keyboard.

Your dodge key is the same as your loot key? Why would you do that?

With a controller, Dodge is left trigger and X or a. So this happens all the time if you're not holding block. Think a little before you ask why like a child @danno8

Ah, I see. It's a controller issue.

To be honest, I'm on the opposite. I'm really tired to be unable to loot. With the warden character I can't loot, I can't open doors and chests all the time. Sometimes it's an in-combat status (when my groupies're fighting somewhere at the other side of a dungeon), sometimes there's no any combat but still I can't interact with objects. People loot the chest, I look at them and can't do the same, because I'm on my warden, and my warden can't loot. I forced to wait like 10-30 secs to be able to loot.

Apparently a bunch of yall didn't read the whole "on-console" part of the title. Console currently doesn't give you the option to unbind the loot button from the dodge roll button. This also relates to block, block is also tied to dodge roll which leads to getting stuck in block when you are trying to dodge roll, or accidentally dodge rolling as the tank because you stupidly tried to loot while blocking.

To the OP I have to agree with one poster above, the work around is to always have auto loot on in PVP area's.

I really want them to give console the ability to change keybind rather than making looting impossible while in combat though.

what is worse on console is that you cannot unbind the block button with dodge roll. everytime you hold block you get treated to no stamina recovery for two sec’s..

It didn't say CONSOLE at first. The OP was edited as you can see by the "edited..." entry at the end of the OP.

I just don't want to jump around like a mad idiot when trying to loot urns and my cursor moves just a hair and de-selects the target.

FYI - On Xbox, "A" button is loot/activate/open, and is also the jump button. So when you see me jumping around your pet, I'm not trying to hop on, I'm trying to loot whatever it is your stupid *insert annoying summoned/non-combat pet name here* is standing in front of.

On Xbox its the same key as Jump IIRC. And in order to Roll Dodge console players must "Block and Jump" at the same time. So yeah. Looting while in combat is a very common thing on consoles.

I use autoloot.... worth looking into until we get an option on console for this. Since I switched to autoloot it hasn’t bothered me even once.

How do you play without autoloot on? Whenever I make a new character and loot something for the first time and realize i don't have auto-loot on I freak out a little bit.

This is definitely an issue I’ve had.

As well as block being tied to the dodge function. So many times I go to dodge with low Stam only to block something drains my Stam and don’t dodge roll.

I play with a controller and this is rarely a problem for me. Are the bodies from taking on the npcs specifically, or collateral damage from your PvP? Have you tried "consolidate area loot"?

Frankly, waiting for combat to end while I'm farming so I can loot a node is irritating enough, like when you kill a rabbit and the game locks you in combat for a few seconds - waiting on mobs too would be awful.

And while yes, autoloot can help, not so much when your inventory is full (which, for me, is pretty much always).

The "E" button suggestions are from the PC people, before the OP edited his title to make it clear the OP was on console using a controller.

I use auto-loot on everything except stolen items. My OCD won't let me leave a glowing corpse there. It's only with stealing where I won't loot everything. I have more than enough lockpicks, and white items aren't really worth taking since legerdemain is maxed.
