You realize a robe would do nothing to protect you, right? Why don’t you have a problem with the dozens of unprotective robes that are titled as light armor? It’s because characters using magicka would naturally use wards to protect themselves. They don’t need to be covered in armor.

The “common sense” argument is flawed. While I’d never want to see some of the stupidly skimpy outfits the Skyrim modders come up with, the stuff people sometimes complain about in this game works for any sorcerer-type character.

ESO water is magick, one cant drown in it..

Anyway this reminds me of AION when they had no swimming implemented yet.. It was quite a laugh how you could just walk in a lake and continue walking on bottom until drowned :D Very immersive in heavy armour XD

Most of the armor and weapons in ESO are not practical. Overly large weapons and boob plates are not going cut it. It’s a fantasy game at the end of the day. ESO does a pretty good job of having a little bit for everyone as far as gear goes.

Of course, of course one can enchant their Miami beach suit. It's Tamriel and magic is common after all.
I don't think anyone complains here about anything... just sharing our personal "no-no"s so on so forth.
Personally, when I see a character in the said outfit and sandals and a two-handed greatsword or staff which is bigger than her.. I find it hilarious. But I am sure it's all enchanted.. sandals too :P
And I am, like, trying to imagine one of the battles in LOTR movie filled with these magnificent looking female warriors barely wearing anything... I think everyone in the audience would be "wtf"? But it's a mmo..I know I know lol

Amusing to see the cry for realism in battle gear, but how many run around in full armor but no helmet? Yes, your pretty little head will look great cleaved in two and rolling across the battlefield!

    I do.

But even those who keep their helmet hidden.. still look more believable to me than those in an evening dress or an outfit that looks like something proper for a beach or house party.

Still, I think it's all personal preference.I am not going to argue with that. Also it's an ever present discussion: TES Lore wise VS general conventions and "poetic justice" accepted in MMO{s}..not just TES but in general.

My Argonian healer throws flowers and mushrooms at people. To be perfectly honest, she'd look odd to me if she WASN'T in a dress and displaying her feathery head in all its glory. :D

It's kind of interesting how people seem to completely forget about our own ancient history and how the 'berserkers' would go into battle completely naked and they were feared because of their ferocity in battle.

Imagine a High Elf sorceress from the ESO cinematic trailer going into battle at that dolmen... wearing some mini-skirt, something that looks like bra, and sandals? Yeah... I'd totally "buy" that scenario LOL

ZOS could put it in the cash shop and sell it as the 'Arena' set:

With the advent of housing in ESO
have taken to recalling to one of my houses and changing into my 'city outfit' before going out and selling things in town

but that mostly reflects to my previously doing similar in Oblivion and Skyrim,

So a not so short skirt in ESO goes against common sense? Wow. Use of the term common sense when dealing with minor appearance choices in an MMORPG. That makes a lot of common sense.

I like to get immersed in this game, you know. So if I think whether I'd go into battle wearing simply swimming suit or wearing an armour to SURVIVE, I choose armour. But yeah, it's MMO game, just a game... so, I guess, you can run around naked with a stick up your a*rse , whistle in one hand and bottle in another... if you want to... be my guest... ;)

    that genuinely made me laugh.

Talking about "combat realism" in a game (genre) that:

    1) has hitpoint pools that mean you can get slashed dozens of times before you actually get "hurt", and

    2) even when wearing what looks like armor, totally ignores physics. You think that plate armor would do a damn thing against dragon breath, getting trampled by a mammoth, or getting line-drived by a giant's club?

(I loved having the same discussion on other MMO forums - dude, you're getting hit in the head by a 20' long steel beam, swung by a 50' tall God. I don't care if you're wearing full-body plate made of 5" thick mithril slabs or a chain bikini.... "realistically" your spine is still going to be compressed to 2 inches long. :D )

...meanwhile, for the "how dare they go against Established TES Lore" thing. How about Nocturnal's robes, Falmer armor, or Forsworn armor, for something more recent than Arena? Also, again, costumes include civilian/town clothes, they're not limited to "what an adventurer would Realistically™ wear! Mah preshus immershuns!!!1!1!one!"

Feminism and a woman's freedom to choose what is right for her and her body have gone hand in hand since before 'SJWs' came around

but also do not count as an SJW either
have no vested interest in stopping someone from expressing his or her views about my choices,
am university educated from the days before the push for safe spaces,
and value discourse and the free expression of ideas as the most powerful capacity of a free society

also grew up in the prairies -- hunting geese and deer for food, and riding horses for fun
so am the pro-gun gal in other debates

do sometimes get labeled as an SJW when defending First Nation's rights and traditional values and lifestyles in Canada tho

People deserve to be free to tell me my attire is ugly, impractical, or 'unimmersive'
people should not be seeking control over what is available for me to wear to ensure my adherence to what they feel is 'proper' for a woman
similarly tho, prolly would not be playing ESO if chainmail bikinis were the only option made available to me

I could say a lot about this but it all boils down to "it's a game, who cares". Additionally, it's an MMO. If you can't handle people customizing their own characters, maybe stick to single-player games.

My opinion of armpor has nothing to do with womens right to choose what they wear. As a Green party member in my country, i am strongly towards full equity and same rights regardless of person being male, female or other.

What i am trying to talk about here, is that women in Tamriel have right for protective wear that prevents injury and possibly death in battle with swords and in terms of reasonable fantasy realism, limited magickal protection that allows mages to wear cloth robes instead of armors nad those sneaky ones , leather that does not prevent pointy swords to slay them or mashing maces to bash their heads, nut protecxt them while they roll dodge in a ground from those weapons :)

I also understand that realism is somewhat far fetched subject in these games as we e to be realistic damage vise but at least i can wish the game to look like people are actually caring about their well being.

My wiev of clothing hen adventuring is different from what i see as a "battle standard". I too, wear nowmal clothes at home and when doing business in cities and if people wish to wear skimpy stuff in these places when they are not adventuring,

One thing w also might consider is, that we are characters in Tamriel, in Nirn.. Not people in Earth while we play. At least some of us play as characters in Tamriel :D

And the women in Tamriel/ESO have that "right" - the armor in this game is quite covering/effective/'realistic'.

Most of the costumes aren't armor. They're clothes. They have no need to follow any guidelines of armor.

(Also, it's quite odd how you're talking as if all female armor & clothes in this game are skimpy/revealing/etc. When it's generally the other way - the majority of clothing is covering, and the vast majority of armor is.

edit: it seems like you should be arguing "players shouldn't be allowed to wear costumes in combat" rather than "female character are forced into skimpy armor" (for all that the latter is false to start with)
