Imagine a High Elf sorceress from the ESO cinematic trailer going into battle at that dolmen... wearing some mini-skirt, something that looks like bra, and sandals? Yeah... I'd totally "buy" that scenario LOL

I actually like that there are non armor options for players, when I'm about to enter a dungeon or Cyrodiil I usually change into some armor, but if I feel like bumming it around Craglorn or in some city I like to wear something more casual.

So a not so short skirt in ESO goes against common sense? Wow. Use of the term common sense when dealing with minor appearance choices in an MMORPG. That makes a lot of common sense.

I like to get immersed in this game, you know. So if I think whether I'd go into battle wearing simply swimming suit or wearing an armour to SURVIVE, I choose armour. But yeah, it's MMO game, just a game... so, I guess, you can run around naked with a stick up your a*rse , whistle in one hand and bottle in another... if you want to... be my guest... ;)

Yeah. I also use normal clothing when i have a free time in a city or a village.. Or at home. It is just nice to get out of armor every now and then and im nothing against people doing this in way that makes sense. :)

But just dare and try to wear clothes like that and go to have a hike in a woods or something like that. I can tell you that its very restrictive to wear clothing that does not restrict yoiur movement :D I mean all the risks to get infected from various scratches and how the sandals collect everything on the ground at every step :D I think the bosmer medium armor at low levels is more sensical to wear when going to take a trip through woods and such :D

      I do.

But even those who keep their helmet hidden.. still look more believable to me than those in an evening dress or an outfit that looks like something proper for a beach or house party.

Still, I think it's all personal preference.I am not going to argue with that. Also it's an ever present discussion: TES Lore wise VS general conventions and "poetic justice" accepted in MMO{s}..not just TES but in general.

Well, to look at it realistically as you try to in your example - having a robe covering your body isn't going to protect you anymore than the skirt. So in your complaint, everyone should literally be wearing full heavy armor in appearance.

I do think the "sexy" gaming player thing is kind of cheesy, but that's me. If another player enjoys it, then whatever - but the "realistic" complaint just doens't fly.

I always wear helmet when going to melee fight, mages are bit different but when it rains, they often wear hoods for protection.

The Wykkyd full immersion gives me a shortcut key that i can press to quickly wear my helmet so i can take it off when it gets uncomfortable.

Those that dont use helmets, are Sin*Dorei in disguise.. "HEY! Watch the hair!

I figure the robe thing like this. Mages use protective spells in battle, so they dont need the heavy gear plus they need the freedom of movement which has stuck with me from D&D to cast spells and do somatic components of spell properly. Why not skimpy dress then? Well they still venture in forests and such so they need protection but they need light clothing as well and pockets for reagents for spells and such, pockets for some soul gems and geeral stuff, i do hope however, that they would also add an cosmetic backpack so things would make more sense. Regarding the robes and light armor in ESO. I wish they would just remove armor from clothing because it makes no sense, cloth wearer should get protection in battle from agility or spells, in TES spells as we dont have monks(Thank goddess). Then again cloth, like leather can be treated to be pretty hard so it can actually have some better protection than normal clothing.

Jungle and swamp tribes know a thing or two about living in those conditions, and tend to wear as little as possible.
Bosmer and Argonians hail from a jungle and a swamp, so those clothing wraps make a whole lot of practical sense.

What's the big deal when 1) there's only a handful really "skimpy" costumes in the game and 2) most of them can be worn by both sexes

If you want combat ready gear only then we'd have to get rid of the casual wear costumes too, and the most recent big armor costume was...disappointing to say the least

My mage is physically weak so metal armor is out if she hopes to move well. Fortunately, she can conjure enough magical protection to make a dragon wince - so what she is wearing is irrelevant as far as mitigating damage goes. And those same magical protections ward away rain/snow/cold/heat as well - eliminating the need for a hood that bothers her long ears, obscures her vision and plays havoc with her hair.

She is constantly tripping in the field or in combat if she wears long robes - so those are pretty much out as well.

Some of her fellow mages choose to dress skimpily to distract their foes. My poor elf, however, . . . well, she can't exactly fill out the skimpy stuff enough to do much distracting.

So, for her, it basically boils down to comfort and freedom of movement. That generally means pants and a shirt of some sort with light boots.

Short version: Mages don't need no stinking armor. ;)

It will, however, protect you from frost bite and third degree sunburns... There are actually very few climates where skimpy clothing would work as general wear.

In Tamriel, of course, magic. What on you is enchanted when half naked?

In any event, ZoS answered these topics requiring deep thinking. Most of it complies with real history. Clothing for social status, religious reasons, symbolic of power. Just keep in mind that the combat answer shows crown store clothing...

The only problem I have with all this is:
Skimpy, tighter or sexy outfits = intended for females.
Covers a lot more, loose. Recycled from the recycled parts of other costumes = intended for males.

The only "revealing clothes" for males are the pirate outfit which has those McHammer pants and the argonian one, which has a skirt (way longer than it's female new version, no surprise).

Come on, ZoS, some of us wish we don't have to cross-dress our males characters in order for them to wear tighter clothes or show more of their tattoos and anatomy too (the Balmora costume looks good on males with athletic bodytypes, but is still too "feminine"). If you're going to break your lore-friendliness and modesty rules, do it for both sexes equally.
