Wizards Riposte is kinda broken.

Sets like Rattlecage provide buffs that can be obtained via various means with equal efficiency. Those sets are an option among many others and no source of those buffs outperforms all others. SPC and similar sets provide unique buffs that can't really be compared to sets that provide minor or major buffs (but since SPC is BiS for every single PvE heal build and also strong in PvP group play it could actually be considered OP, with the only downside it that it is only useful for dedicated healer builds due to the proc conditions).

But sets like Riposte or Duroks outperform pretty much any other source of those potent debuffs with little to no counterplay. And no, not attacking and purging isn't viable in actual combat for reasons that have been stated already.

You're discounting damage buffs, in part, because they are more easily accessible than minor maim? That could just as easily suggest that we need more access to minor maim.

Please do explain your argument that "no source of [damage] buffs outperforms all others." How does that account for Igneous Weapons? With your reasoning Igneous Weapons overperforms because it's not equal to the other buffs. And are you also suggesting that the Stamina Betty is equal to Crit Surge?

I stand by my statement that Major Defile applying skills and/or Cyrodiil's Crest is more effective when attacking an enemy because then the attacker can control when/if the Major Defile is applied.

I didn't say all sources of Major Sorcery or Major Brutality are the same. But they all allow an easy 100% uptime - they are all equally efficient at providing the buffs. No matter if i wear Rattlecage or if i use Entropy every 20s or if i use spell power potions - I will have 100% buff uptime.

But there is no other way to get even close to the Maim uptime that WR provides. And should simply wearing a set be better than the skills that a player has to use actively? Skills that have a resourse cost. Skills that prevent you from using other skills at the same time. Skills that can be avoided.

Igneous Weapons isn't overperforming because this skill doesn't have additional benefits aside from providing the buffs to allies, while other skills also have some additional effects.

It's so annoying when people complain about Wizard's Riposte, without also complaining about offensive sets.

Why aren't you complaining about Slimecraw? It's a 2 piece set with permanent up-time on Minor Berserk (8% damage), without any condition of having to be attacked and crit against for it to activate.

At least be consistent with your complaining.

It's different to Slimecraw because it applies to many opponents and your whole team benefits from it, not just you. It would be similar to Slimecraw, if Slimecraw gave Minor Berserk to every friendly around you. Or if the debuff from Wiz Riposte only reduced damage directed towards the wearer instead of everyone, like Minor Protection.

Wizard's Riposte falls into the category of AoE debuff sets. Like Fassala's Guile, Durok's Bane, Knightmare and Healing Mage.

Quite frankly, nowhere near as bad as the first two in that list. One is literally an AoE debuff (lol) and the other procs on any type of damage, so basically always. And dealing reduced damage is not the end of the world, many skills maim you already you can still kill people fine. But if you can't heal....

Fassalla's Guile and Durok's Bane really aren't as strong as you're making them seem due to the way that PVP is played.

PVP is often about offensive and defensive transitions, and when experienced players get defensive it usually involves a cleanse that completely wipes the defile from Durok's, rendering it useless to the opponent, who is now trying to burst you without Major Defile. The set you should probably be more concerned about is Cyrodiil's Crest, which allows the enemy to control when they want to tag you with Major Defile, and do so with any melee hit at any time they want in their rotation. Yes, it has a 5 second cooldown, but it's much more lethal when used correctly in a fight (example: right after you cleanse and think you have a few seconds of breathing room).

The Minor Defile from Fasalla's isn't all that strong/rare. You can get tagged with that from a weapon proc, or even a poison skill. No big deal. So if the enemy wants to burn through resources spamming gap close to keep the range-limited Minor Defile from Fasalla's on you, then there's a good chance they'll be low on resources when you counter.

Edit: If you'd like a better comparison than Wizard's Riposte and Slimecraw, then perhaps group-based skills like Igenous Weapons and Expansive Frost Cloak make more sense. Although, if we're just talking about sets then we could also throw in sets like Spell Power Cure, Meritorious Service, and Powerful Assault.

There is one class that has a somewhat reliable purge and at least for stam builds that aren't templars, there is no accessible on demand purge whatsoever.

What do you mean by "somewhat reliable?" And every class has access to the support skill line purge.

An on demand purge that is likely to actually to remove the critical debuff. If you actually understood what I wrote you should be aware I mentioned Efficient Purge myself indirectly; but it's very expensive and removes only 2 debuffs. Blue Betty is free but removes only one.
You literally said "PVP is often about offensive and defensive transitions, and when experienced players get defensive it usually involves a cleanse that completely wipes the defile from Durok's, rendering it useless to the opponent, who is now trying to burst you without Major Defile." This is simply untrue because few builds actually involve a purge in the first place.

What are you talking about? You said, "There is one class that has a somewhat reliable purge and at least for stam builds that aren't templars, there is no accessible on demand purge whatsoever." It sounds like you are saying that there isn't any purge for stamina builds outside of Templar. Yes there is, and it's in the support skill line. It's expensive and costs magicka, but stamina builds can absolutely make use of it. You are aware that stamina characters can cast skills that use magicka, no?

And I don't care how many total builds use a purge. It's a smart to purge, or at least have someone doing it for you. Purging is a great counter to some of the debuffs being talked about in this thread.

Purge removes 2 effects, the chance for it to remove the one you need to get rid of is very low. The huge magicka cost especially for stam builds makes this even worse, especially when you're already trying to recover, as you are spending time and resources on something that isn't even guaranteed to work.
I use Purge myself even when solo, but I have a very specific build (magSorc with 3 cost reduction glyphs, BoL and Dark Exchange) that I am able to use it, and even then it's expensive. I mostly use it for snare removal and only when out of range/LOS to avoid the debuffs being immediately reapplied. That's simply not feasible on almost any other build and even if defile worked on shields, I couldn't afford purging it without breaking LOS.

Well, I hope you got it now, not gonna continue this discussion.

Seventh legion is broken due to no cooldown on the heal. remove it and it's fine.
No one ever said that: Truth, Hundings, Julianos, Kagrenac, Senche, Marksman, NMG, Worm, SPC, VO, IA, Moondancer, Architect, Alkosh, sunder, Morag, agility, will power, heem ja's are op

Duroks is op because you have easy 100% uptime of major defile
Shieldbreaker is OP because it completely hardcountera shields
Blood Spawn is strong and maybe the resistance should be reduced to 4k
Troll king is bugged and can't be reduced by defiles and equals 12x the bonuses of a normal piece - - - > too strong
Illambris isn't even used in many builds anymore
Skoria is op because it is the only damage set that hasn't gone through the counterplay changes
Slimecraw is fine because it will only buff your damage by 8% you still have to do the damage on your own
Bone pirate is fine after the 50% regen nerf
    Nerieneth isn't even good
Plague doctor is fine but it opened the gate for zergs to zerg with 35k health while keep wearing a dmg set with full stam/mag glyphs

Stamdk is strong in PvE single target damage and tanking but sucks for everything else especially pvp where it is outclassed by every other spec
Magdk is finally viable again and strong and is what classes should be: strong but not op
Stamnb is too strong due to bugged incap/ fear cc but crappy in pve
Magnb is like magdk strong but balanced and nice for pve
Stamsorc has good AoE in pve but is on the low end of pvp
Magsorc has some critical points but is fine overall
Stamplar is nice for aoe and WM buffs in PvE but is on almost the same level as stamsorc in pvp
Magplar needs it's bugs fixed and it will be fine
Stamwarden is meh in pve and damn op in pvp
Magwarden is crappy in pve but is almost equally strong as stamwarden

Riposte is too strong because it has no cd and can proc on shields and buffs shield strength by 15% that's the part where the problem lies

Of course I would like to play a more balanced game i know the list about stupid game design would be endless but if the started fixing more problems than they introduce we could eventually see a somewhat balanced game.

You actually went through that and analyzed it

Of course I would like to play a more balanced game i know the list about stupid game design would be endless but if the started fixing more problems than they introduce we could eventually see a somewhat balanced game.

That’s not exactly a post to respond to which would help get you there lol. Your list is pretty accurate though on some of the things you say. Other stuff you speak on shows you clearly aren’t very familiar with sets at hand though so how could you possibly help with that?

For example, your cooldown nerfs to Wizard’s Riposte turn a usable set that mainly benefits solo/small group players vs large groups into one of the worst sets in the game. You say Seventh is fine besides the heal not having a cooldown, but that’s not why it’s ridiculously strong atm. Nerien’eth is not good in your eyes but in truth it’s very good in PvE.... for any class that casts Force Pulse (especially with Asylum Destro) a lot it is the most powerful set out there, meaning BiS. Etc etc

If you’re trying to provide meaningful feedback rather than some one-sentence (if even that) list that summarizes every meaningful set in the game as well as class balance, then you can analyze the sets/classes individually and comparatively to competition with testing to prove which sets and facets of classes truly are over/underperforming.

A nerf to wizard riposte would include 3 things.
First individual cd for all enemies
Second reduce the duration to 2 seconds and set the CD to 2.5 seconds
Third don't let it proc on shields

The heal is absolutely why people run 7th legion over other sets.
Ravager gives you more damage and has health bonus instead of health regen
Truth is the better back bar set that gives you more damage
Warriors Fury gives you more damage in the long run
Only veilded heritance is weaker damage wise.
So what could be the reason people use the set that gives you less damage?
It's the heal and nothing else. If you balance the heal the other sets would be used just like 7th is used atm

I couldn't find a good damage parse of nerieneth in trials and i haven't heard that anyone was praising it to be bis. Although I'm more of a stam guy in pve so i don't have to full insight

Oh boy, you really are stubborn with your views lol. Nerfing the duration by 87%, adding cooldowns, and not allowing it to proc on Shields is a horrible way to balance. You outright kill the set.

Seventh is great not just because of that heal, but because it has all good set bonuses and procs that massive Weapon Damage with no effort on your part. Ravager is much tougher to proc, Truth requires CP investment that isn’t always good for your build though is great imo, Fury won’t always give you the damage when you need it and can go away too easily, etc. Seventh is always good and can easily fit on one bar. No downsides in outnumbered PvP and it comes with free healing.

Anyway that’s enough cause I don’t want to argue with you. Please test sets though if you’re gonna push stuff as fact. If a friend of a friend says no one uses Nerien’eth, it doesn’t mean the set is useless, and just because you feel a certain way about a set, it doesn’t mean you’re right. For example, I used to think Nerien’eth was horrible, but after testing on a build made for Forve Pulse spam w/ Asylum Staff it outparses all other monster sets.

It's a very poor decision to use the alliance purge skill in almost every scenario

Its a skill for a dedicated group healer for group PvP, not for solo play, as has been said by multiple people now, its not skill used by a lot of people for obvious reasons.

@GrumpyDuckling with the speed of wish Wizards and Duroks can be reapplied on to you, using Purge, even efficient purge will force you to run out of magicka very quickly if you intend to always purge the negative effects off of you. And if you only use it sometimes then whats the point? The debuff is gonna be on you all the time then anyway. The way that Wizards and Duroks is right now, Purge is not an acceptable counter to them.

The discussion about purging started when someone was voicing concern about not being able to heal. I mentioned that Durok's wasn't as big a deal as people are making it out to be because it's as simple as purging it away once and not attacking the Durok's user while you are being defensive/focused on (because it requires the user to be attacked to activate). In that scenario, Durok's is less effective than enemy skills which apply Major Defile, and even the set Cyrodiil's Crest - so I don't understand the complaining about Durok's.

Wizard's Riposte complaints just don't make sense unless people want to also complain about sets like Rattlecage, Dreugh King Slayer, Slimecraw, Spell Power Cure, Powerful Assualt, and Meritorious Service. Or even skills like Igneous Weapons and and Frost Cloak.

Do please explain why those things, sets and skills are in your mind grouped with Wizard's Riposte in what should be or should not be complained about? How do they correlate? The 100% up time? You do know that even without those sets the Major buff sets are really easy to keep up 100% of the time anyway with skill normally used by a lot of people. The minor maim is significantly harder to keep 100% up time on in that big of an AoE, it will effect anyone that hits you, one or two people wearing that in a zerg and anyone attacking the zerg with any type of AoE will be effected. Hard to compare those imo.

I think the general arguement is that Wizard’s Riposte is definitely a strong set, but also that so are many other sets. Wizard’s Riposte is not comparatively OP to what other sets are available particularly for Stam setups these days.

Another huge detail is that it’s primarily great for solo players/small groups since it creates a debuff that is oftentimes redundant against smaller numbers. This makes it much better suited to cripple a Zerg spamming lots of attacks/AoEs, whereas on a solo player/small group they’re getting debuffed by Minor Maim constantly through other means anyway. It becomes a negligible set for zergs to use and if anything weakens the strength of zergs overall since multiple players run it thinking it’s OP while the players they try to Zerg down are debuffed by Minor Maim at almost all times anyway.

So if Wizard’s Riposte is going to get slaughtered by nerfs (since ZOS balances the game and they always destroy viable sets) then all of the other sets that are equally as good or better should get nerfed too. Doesn’t make sense to heavily nerf a set that isn’t an OP outlier as crazy as Viper’s Sting used to be.

The fact that some of the buffs are "really easy" to keep up doesn't necessarily mean that Wizard's Riposte should get nerfed (because minor maim isn't as easy to keep up). I could just as easily argue that there needs to be better accessibility to minor maim through skills.

If you're looking for a near-equal 1:1 comparison, then Spell Power Cure is probably the best example. Any request to nerf Wizard's Riposte also needs to ask for a Spell Power Cure nerf.

One could even argue that Spell Power Cure is more OP than Wizard's Riposte because it it's uptime is almost a guarantee, and Wizard's Riposte uptime is entirely dependent on the person wearing the set getting crit against.

Actually i dont see why many of you are so triggered by this set. Right, the set is powerful, mostly in noncp environment, but its effect is actually pretty limited going into cp enabled environment. This debuff affects outgoing damage of the affected, so it is the first percentage number in the mitigation chain. In cp environment elemental defender, hardy, etc comes next, everything now less effective after minor maim. Those 15% are mostly less mitigation than most of you expect, since you get more diminishing effects the more different sources of mitigation you use.
It is a bit disturbing, that it affects a lot of enemies at once and the mechanism allows actually pretty much 100% uptime also on cleanse using enemies. Still in my opinion those 15% are not that strong and i actually want other sets be adressed first. For example duroks bane, which is an universal set for pretty much every build, the mechanism is even simpler and it applies a major debuff. Additionally cp does not weaken that set, it even buffs it by a huge amount.
just my opinion, pls continue with the discussion;)

But you just answered the whole reason for wearing sets ...

By wearing these sets we don't need to use a skill, and can instead put something on that can give us more damage you place damage skills and wear a defensive set, or place defencive skills and wear an offence set

WR and duroks are certainly not over performing

I will add that the befoul CP is overperforming but with defile from so many different sets and abilities why is it everyone complains about the same set ... Personally I just think you need something to play other than your own ability to think outside of the meta

I mean, it's self-explanatory really. It has no cap, no CD, a very long duration and the easiest proc condition ever... "take damage". It's much much stronger than any skill with defile.

One person wearing it can defile a group of people with 100% uptime basically. Unless those people completely stop attacking in which case they are just sitting waiting to die, yes?

If it had 60%-75% uptime you could at least manage it, you would argue.

Its outperforming sets like f.brass and impreg. Just ridicilous. This thread is on point. It needs a little change. Not a huge nerf, just a reduced time on minor maim.

Brass/impreg offer similar mitigation as wizard reposte. Only difference is those are selfish sets with zero group support and don't actually reduce your enemy's incoming DMG. They also have specific strengths in either CP/nCP whereas wizards can be used in both.

Honestly, it's not an issue (15% reduced DMG makes your other mitigation less effective at reducing the remaining amount.)
