I no longer play this game and I am disgusted by the practices of this company.

It is ironically close-minded to assume such a thing. Irl, I despise racism. It is a sad truth that segregation still exists in places like Israel.

My character is fictional, and so are his views. Reading a book such as Animal Farm doesn't make one communist. Quite the contrary! Exploring errant views makes one more prone to recognizing such views as 'bad' out-of-character.

Go be hateful somewhere else . I have lost friends to racism and gang violence and do not need those reminders when I decide to play here . For some it's just a joke and others it's a reminder of senseless loss . If people were not beaten , shot , robbed , bullied , intimidated and terrorized just because they were born a different color then maybe some humor could be found in our differences . But since that is how some people get their kicks to this day , it doesn't feel funny at all to me . My family and friends are of many different cultures and races and I love them all with all my heart .

Why should anyone go anywhere but you? If you can’t separate fiction from reality, that’s your problem. That’s like seeing a kitchen knife and being reminded of the time your brother was brutally stabbed in front of you. Understandable and able to be sympathized with on its own, but then it’s like expecting people not to use them around you while you’re at a public restaurant. It’s not going to happen, which you means you either have to grow thicker skin or stay home and eat your whole or pre-cut foods.

The jokes are about fictional characters, most of which focus specifically on bipedal talking cats and lizards. It’s completely harmless.

There's an easy solution . I put you on ignore .

I'm not going to vote because I resent how the word "offended" is misapplied to put people who object this this BS on the defensive.

    Let's get something straight:

If you say something that dehumanizes and belittles someone because you're a jerk who doesn't respect other people, other people have every right to be offended by you. But be certain, it's not because of the words you said so much as you yourself are gross and don't deserve the company of other people. If people are offended it literally means they do not what you around. And they get to make the choice. So shut up or go away.

Second, those of us who object to these kinds of things aren't naive or sheltered. We know what people say and and what they think. We know it's never just a "joke"and that people saying it is is just a BS way to avoid growing the f up and being accountable for their own behavior. It's not so much being offended at this stage as just being sick of it. You know how tedious it is to hear the same dumb joke over and over? Yeah that, except the joke was never funny to begin with. What, you think you're so clever because you say something sexist, racist, ableist or home/transphobic? You really think this is some fresh, top-notch comedy or insight, as if you're some sparkly new breed of bigot? Please. How uncreative and sad do you need to be to rely on insulting other people to try to win props within a group? When people tell you to STFU, it's because you really do in fact need to STFU.

Allow me to quote Pacrooti (before he turned into an evil gambling master) on the matter:

"Do all Bretons think they are hilarious with their jokes? One of these had a ball of yarn which he rolled on the ground, thinking Pacrooti would chase it like a common housecat. Pacrooti did bat it around for a while, but only after he made the Breton eat it."

"Pacrooti has been pondering. Why do the humans insist on calling his people "Cat Men"? This makes no sense. We do not walk on four legs and rub against them, begging for food. This one thinks he will begin calling them "Monkey Men".

"This one's name is Pacrooti. Not Kitty. This one wishes that the rest of Tamriel could tell the difference between a pet and a person. One day, perhaps, the world outside of Elsweyr will feel like home. It is not this day."

Where's the lol button when you need it? Apparently being open-minded to differing views is "gross." Great advice.

I didn't know you could "dehumanize" a lizard. Next time I see a worm I'll be sure to thank it for its contributions to society.

If people are "offended" (oh noes, not a scary insult!), it literally means: "resentful or annoyed, typically as a result of a perceived insult." Please do not apply your own invented definition to a word.

You are telling us to "shut up or go away" simply because you can't respect the lore of TES. If you don't like the lore, it is you who should "go away." ESO isn't your safe space.

IRL there always some brave stuntman or woman that will say something racist and everyday we have shootings in L.A. . The Internet makes people braver then they might actually be and some don't care about being banned . I don't care to sensor everyone's words so I ignore a lot of people .

It does not make me angry that people are racist . I don't feel sad for them neither . I just count my blessings everyday for all the wonderful and different friends in the world not being biased has graced me with . I have learned so much from so many different people . The stereotypes only punish those limited enough to believe in them . Fear and hate are the only two forces in the world that breed ignorance and disaster . Bravery and love are what evolve us past those things . I can never be angry with people that live in fear . I also have no need in my life to listen to ignorance either .

Disrespectful to who? Nobody real should legitimately care. No sane person is going out and making kebabs out of people. In general, people aren’t even doing it to alligators. Just the fact that someone can say that about characters in the game shows how detached from reality these characters actually are. People that say things like that are speaking in fiction. A person that is taking any of this seriously, whether it be a legitimate racist or someone offended by it, is unable to separate reality from fiction, which is a problem on their part, not anyone else’s.

There is so much stupidity in this forum. On both sides actually.
Doesn't the whole racism thing come down to biology and ethics?

IRL racism would be to treat someone worse/better than others specifically because of his/her genes. However humans are actually very closely related. I heard somewhere that pidgeons are far more genetically diverse than humans, which is surprising considering that they all kind of look the same. So in essense we are all the same with just minor and neglegable genetic difference. That does not justify different treatment at all.

In the game however we have 9 genetically (if genes even exist in TES lore) different races which have obvious differences in terms of capabilities, life expectancies and arguably even average intelligence. There are very good reasons each of these racists can bring forth to justify their point of view (unlike in the real world where it comes down to "brown is not as good as white... because I say so"). For example an Altmer can say "we Altmer are better because we live far longer than beasts and men". An Argonian can say "we have the strongest connection to the Hist trees that exist since the dawn era".
Why does this justify different treatment? Well Queen Ayrenn says that humans don't live long enough to become fully mature, making them a bad choice for positions of power since they act on impulses like children. Humans would disagree on the impulsiveness but couldn't deny the shorter life span. The point is that in the world of Tamriel these claims have legitimacy but the consequences that should follow up on the racial differences are topic of debate.
(Example: Does the lack of magic affinity of Orcs justify to keep them as slaves? Arguably not, but some people who are obsessed with magic would say that it does, because according to them magic is a tool and those not able to handle it are not meant for greatness -> servitude would give them use)
The actual racism in TES lore is justified. Its consequences are depending on the agenda of the group exerting the racism, thus making it a matter of whether the agenda is wrong or not. (Think of Ayrenn's wish to help the child-humans opposed to the Veiled Heritance's greed to take from the undeserving lesser races.) Different conclusions drawn from the same set of facts.
