Racism is the chauvinism against other races of the SAME SPECIES.
Nord supremacy over bretons, redguards, reachmen, colovians or nibeneese is racism.
Altmer or dunmer supremacy over human races is NOT.
Same goes to mer and men supremacism over beast folk.
Altmer supremacy over dunmer needs discussion. (not for me, btw)
Bosmers are mix-blooded or degraded from aldmeri, so... I do not know, really.

I do not want to give ethical evaluation of this, but it is reality of Tamriel. And a little bit roleplay on game forums should go on.

Racism is offensive period. To hide behind a lame excuse that it is a fantasy game with fake races is disingenuous at best.

It doesn't help that most of those doing it on the forum aren't role playing, just trolling.

I am strongly against racism IRL. Fictional "races" are fictional, however, and there is an in-game precedent for "racism" against them in certain cultures.

Joking about it is simply nodding to the lore. Some people find ways to be offended by anything.

But it is a fantasy game and the races don't exsist. Not to mention the game itself fosters this fictional racism in its lore and quests and it's alliance system

Matter of fact it's a staple of fantasy fiction in general as a popular and natural antagonist and back story.

Half of the characters I play are Argonian, and I always play an Argonian in TES games. I'm really fond of lizards, I collected lots of lizard toys when I was little, and TES is one of the few games where you can actually play a lizardfolk so you can imagine I feel a bit attached to them. So when I hear people making jokes about how all Argonians should be slaves, I do feel annoyed. You personally don't like Argonians? That's fine. You're allowed to have an opinion. But sometimes when you hear a joke for so many times that you don't laugh at, it gets annoying.

I don't get offended, but the jokes are getting pretty tiresome. Also, the whole "there's a lot of racism in-game so there's a precedent for the jokes" argument is kind of weak. There's a whole lot of racism around the world IRL, but that doesn't set a "precedent" for making racist jokes, does it? I sometimes wonder if some people get off on making racist jokes in ESO because they can't get away with it IRL.
