They were operating within the existing game design and are not using external cheats or outside programs to accomplish the exploit. And yes - to me this does matter.

Or right, you haven't a friggin clue what you want.

If it was up to me i would ban them permanently in a heartbeat.
Zero empathy for this BS behaviour.

People. plural human beings making up a group or assembly or linked by a common interest
You know, we aren't all the same person and we don't all want the same thing, right?
I want the cheaters to get a fair trial, and when the formalities are all taken care of, permanently ban them. Then unban them so that we can permanently ban them over and over.

Thanks for the attempted grammar lesson but I defiantly know how to use the word 'people' properly.
I didn't specifically state you in my post so don't get so defensive. The world doesn't revolve around you. I'm obviously speaking of those actually defending exploiters.

Okay.
I suppose either works in this case, though.
Looking at the polls, it is obvious that the silent majority supports the ban, despite the vocal opposition in the thread.

Do you follow the same line of thinking for murdering people? Or is it just randomly applied to cheating for some reason?

Yes. Yes, I do. However, capital punishment is hardly applicable to a VIDEO GAME. Punishment is supposed to deter the unwanted action. If punishment is not severe enough, then it is useless.

Yes it is a video game. Let me explain since it seems to be confusing. The personI quoted stated if someone is going to cheat online then they would irl if they could get away with it. I was asking what I thought a obvious follow up might be. Do you feel that if people kill others online, they would do it irl if they could get away with it. The quote statement seemed silly to me. So I connected it with something even more silly. The fact that we are all waiting for the chance to kill our neighbors irl, if only we could get away with it.
Because obviously an online behavior is a clear indication of what one would do irl.

completely incorrect. cheating is more an attitude than an action. we dont think they'd repeat what they do in the game, but we think they will take that same attitude to real life. and yes, those people will hopefully win darwin awards at some point. Id like to see them cheat there.

Ah I see. Cheating is an ‘attitude’. That way we can pretend that some how this one specific online trait means they are a *** irl so we don’t have to feel bad about mocking them. But we can safely feel happy about whatever bad behavior we commit online, because we don’t have that, ‘attitude’. So we can tell ourselves we aren’t really like that in real life. I get it. Makes sense. I just want aware of these arbitrary rules or ‘attitudes’ we were making up. Carry on.

So I've been really ignorant about this whole exploit thing that has been exploding across the forums. Been searching for an article detailing the events but can't find one! Does anyone have a link to a thread or article that explains what happened and why?
All I know is some people got banned for abusing some kind of exploit, but I dont know how long the ban is and what the exploit was!

If you click through the developer comments in that thread you will get the details. Also, using the Dev Tracker will net you the messages they posted about this exploit.

no. you dont see. thats apparent from your post. you're still defending their actions with some very weird and bizarre illogical argument. there is no defense for what they did.
vyndral13preub18_ESO wrote: »Because obviously an online behavior is a clear indication of what one would do irl.
I'm not sure I'd use the term "attitude", but so far as a person's moral outlook on life is concerned, there will be plenty of people whose principles would prevent them from deliberately and consciously cheating in any aspect of life including games, while there is certainly an argument that those whose principles allow them deliberately and consciously to cheat in a game may make them more likely to cheat in other aspects of their life.
MercyKilling wrote: »vyndral13preub18_ESO wrote: »Because obviously an online behavior is a clear indication of what one would do irl.
Well, there's this old saying that goes "Character is what you are in the dark." which means.....you really are what you do when you know there's no consequence. I'm sure enough THAT is what that post (I read it too) was referencing in an oblique way.
Yes. People really WOULD do things that are horrible irl and commonplace in a video game. Not everyone, of course. But just look at all these shootings and ask that question again.
Edited to add:
No, I don't think the permaban was too harsh. I think more people should've been permabanned TBH.
