As long as it drops normal gear and not the sets, doesn't count for dailies etc. I have no issues with story modes for all the content.

Honestly, after your fourth or fifth time in a dungeon, you can easily get into a headspace where you're just spamming through dialog. Especially if you've got 13 other characters you need to knock out pledges on for today.
That said, yeah, the best advice is to put together a group to run the story. Simply pulling in players from the group finder rarely results in good players (though it can and does happen).

The challenge with solo or a story mode is if you do this people will stop grouping all together. Ideally the reverse should occur outside of dungeons in that group content remains meaningful but the overworld difficulty for normal NPCs are doubled in difficulty.
