Item sets could still drop, but have inferior stats similar to the new Asylum/Perfected Asylum weapons. And these sets can only be combined with the same inferior versions.

You see, the whole point was to see the story, not farm gear. There are Normal and Vet versions for that.
Our hypothetical Story Mode shouldn't give loot from group content at all since it is solo content.

Goes in line with my pausable/Training mode for trials idea.

I agree with this, a repeatable story mode for both dungeons and trials is a good way to get familiar with the tactics. People including myself would be more inclined to buy dungeon dlcs so we can take our time and truly appreciate the detail you put in them. Please ZOS, I don't think its that hard to implement this.

Not a bad idea. I would like to actually hear the stories for once. I've played literally every dungeon in the game and IDK WTF happened in any of them.

i'd rather have them spend their time and effort somewhere else.
if it wouldn't take up any of their resources, i'd be totally fine with a 1man/2man mode, reducing damage and health of mobs by X% but also change the loot to green quality stuff.

I really like this idea, it would also be useful to teach players boss mechanics prior to entering the dungeon with a group. I also agree it shouldn't provide rewards comparable to a group dungeon but should have some kind of cosmetic reward / delve quality loot. It would also provide added value to older content. This is a great idea!

If you are referring to discovering the history or story behind the delve, I am all for it. There are a few sort of like that where you meet someone that gives you back story through quest, but these things exist for a reason.

If they were to do this, I think difficulty and drops should be public dungeon level. For instance, COH would drop Darkstride, Necropotence and Vampire Cloak and quality would depend on RNG and whether you have the treasure hunter passive (for chests).

Yeah, I hate the rush mentality too. Especially when I'm doing >70% of the group DPS.

Fortunately for me, I have 2 other friends that I have been playing MMOs with over the last 15 years. We all have our favorite roles, so we always have a tank, healer, and a dps. We take our own time and laugh if we get a DPS that's in a rush. Usually they either leave group, or calm down after the 3rd death.

Story mode would be good, but should be delve level difficulty with appropriate loot (Generic zone drops). That way players can do the quest and get the extra skill point without feeling like they're being rushed...AND can explore the dungeon.

Agree. The whole idea is to experience the Story and not make an easy way to get Dungeon Gear.

A story mode would be great. A story mode with achievements, even better. Could be new achievements added for the story mode version and leave the existing ones for group mode.

Maybe there could be a story mode daily that would have dungeon themed furniture and motifs as a reward

I do dungeons so frequently where I think "wow, it looks like there's an interesting story here. Too bad I can't stop to enjoy it."
Why does ZOS even bother with the interesting quest stories in dungeons. It's just a waste of their time.

I've played the first three launch group dungeons and rarely any since. At that time leveling worked different than it does now, you could out level a group dungeon and get the full story and solo it when you were powerful enough to get through it on your own.

This was back when zones were leveled and by the time you got to your last faction zone group dungeons in your first zones were easy to complete solo. Of course if you were more than (I think) 5 levels ahead you stopped getting xp.

There also use to be no veteran versions of the dungeons.

The mechanics have already been in use to make this possible and its not like they have not added a new play mode to these before, why not add story mode (overpower your player) with no XP gain and/or Undaunted skill advancement. Also, rather than getting your usual group dungeon drops you could pull from the overland drop lists.

    Story (solo), Normal, and Veteran.

Edit: It would be easy enough to implement, just do the reverse of what you do in Cyrodiil and give a "Solo Buff" active effect when you enter a group dungeon in Story Mode.

So yes.. This is a big damn problem. I tried running a couple of dungeons with a new player but people are rushing through, "skipping" parts and stuff - totally killed the mood for the new player and I can totally see how this makes people quit the game altogether. When I say "hey guys, wait up, we haven't done this" they just try and stress us to skip and rush anyways and just proceed to duo the rest of the dungeon.

ZOS needs to do something about this. Maybe make it so that CP 500 and CP 50 don't get grouped together?
Maybe add a toggle for "story mode" or "new player mode" so that people can help guide new players through the dungeon and follow the story? Come to think of it, it's a scandal that this hasn't already been implemented in this very story-driven game.

    Damn it.
And no, people, asking in guild doesn't make a difference if most are CP720+ and have to equip bad gear and reset all of their points to not kill everything super fast. That's just not going to happen, now is it?

Yep, this is why I can't even play with friends. I had a friend once try to spoil the story of another MMO because they wanted me to quest and farm with their guild so badly. It's hard to find players that aren't rushing/farming to max, let alone players that are on your level that aren't ruahing on alts. For the solo players and for the players that want to enjoy the story, we NEED a solo dungeon option.

My first ever dungeon so long ago was Volenfell, it was with a guild i had joined. They burned through it so quickly i had no idea what was happening….it really was off putting for dungeons, so i stayed away from them for a long time

I know everyone is rushing through the pledges and all, but it really is a design flaw to make it feel like you need to push every toon through these for the daily rewards.

Now whenever i run my tank through dungeon finder and i get the lower level dungeons, I always ask if someone is doing the mission. It really sucks when doing BC 1 and everyone quits the team before the 52 minutes of dialog ends. SO I always ask and wait.
    Ummm stuff… about stuff…or something.

hmmm... sure, I see some cons to it but none worse than those things broken during patches to fix other things.

    Go For it!

On a side note until that happens for those wanting to actually "see" the quest. Anytime you get into a group that doesn't wait for you to complete it...

Immediately drop group abandon quest and pick it back up then wait till you find a new group. Wash rinse repeat until you get to see what you are missing.

As someone who has played casually since beta and has done a whole 3 dungeons, i agree with this.

I think you should still get the skill point, and killing the bosses should still count towards the "kill all bosses in X dungeon" achievements, but other than that it shouldnt count towards achievements/dungeon-specific-loot/undaunted stuff. Only standard delve or oublic dungein level rewards.

Also each dungeon should get some unique motif or furniture sets- but thats a different subject...

Well, what i began doing is, i turn subtitles on. Im in 5 Guilds, i sometimes PUG normal Dungeons, especially with my Tank because its quick group but turning subtitles on is perfect. Even if you rush towards the next Mob or Boss, most fights, after 13 months of experience are so automatical, that i find the Time to read the subtitles. It really gave me a more thorought understanding of some of the Lore/Story behind a Dungeon/Trial

I am all for a solo mode, even if it drops blue versions of gear. I love the stories in this game, and sometimes I just want to farm for gear without relying on others. The only problem I see is the amount of instances that would be open at any given time, making performance even worse.

Off topic but not, solo instance/server for pvp questing. You can READ that IC continues the story of the main quest in TESO but can you enjoy it (as a purely PVE quester) without worrying about getting murdered? No. Nerf the hell out of the server. Don't let me get telvar or xp or ap or whatever else, JUST LET ME QUEST without murder.
