Who actually cares what happened to some insecure elitists who couldnt finish the trial properly?
I care to know what the actual consensus is.
Those who don’t needn’t reply or even read this poll/thread.
A poll will not get you an actual consensus. There is nothing scientific or accurate about a forum poll.

I'm curious to see if this will set a new precedence in the handling of exploits/cheats going forward. It seems like they're taking a hardline stance this time.

However:
i think from now on, people should receive an Email Warning, and then a 1 week ban, 30 day ban and then finally a Permanent ban for offences instead of just "BAM" your'e banned" and persons were not even aware they were cheat or exploiting.

I heard about this altho don't know what platform it was on. I do think it was too harsh, if the devs leave a loophole like that in the game, someone is gonna find it, and it doesn't even sound like it was very hard to discover. Perma ban is ridiculous, they should just fix the quest and have a word with the playtesters for not finding this before it went live.

For this yes.
Historic precedent bares out that exceptions WILL BE MADE. We had one prominent streamer here that admitted to account sharing, he was not only not perm banned he was invited to test morrowind with another group before anyone else. Guy deserved the invite on the merits of his streaming and traffic he drove to ZOS, no argument there but the real problem is ZOS has been extremely selective on their bans and forgiveness.
Remember the gap closing issue in cyrodiil? You could gap close to keep walls from the outside. This was reported to them in beta testing, they didnt fix it before release. Not a word about consequences, people did it and got banned.
Remember the meteor exploit? A lot of those people were forgiven.
On and on.
Im hopeful its a new precedence too, but history doesnt support that outcome sadly.

There are exploits that are hard to avoid because it's in the base game mechanics and there are ones you can't mistake that effort was made to do the exploit.
Wall jumps would be too hard to judge if people even knew you weren't supposed to do it or that they meant to scale the wall. This, from what I understand, is very very elaborate and has to be done on purpose. Easy to judge intention.
The one that should of been ban hammers was the survey exploit. That affected the entire server economy and everyone in it. I'm sure we continue to see it today with the money people got at that time and were able to hoard.

Not all of us are from the U.S.
Just sayin'

From these poll results, that much is clear.

As a result, we have permanently banned all players – 34 accounts in all – who used the exploit to complete the kill and earn the special achievement and skin in this way. We will not be considering overturns for these account bans. They are permanent and final.
We are working on a fix for this exploit, but we will not be able to deploy it until Monday at the earliest. We will be watching things closely over the weekend. After we deploy the fix on Monday, we will do another audit of kills for this fight. Be warned: we will permanently ban any additional players who use the exploit over the weekend.

From Jessica's post, looks like they actually do have proof, and they're going to be looking at more evidence with the possible result of more bans. "Hey I saw so and so do this." = no evidence, possibly innocent. Logs of the gameplay = evidence of not so innocent. As a result, we have permanently banned all players – 34 accounts in all – who used the exploit to complete the kill and earn the special achievement and skin in this way.
